"- What did you do during those 10 years? - What did I do? - Yeah - It's a good thing I have a wife that knows how to make new clothes out of old ones. It's a good thing that I have a wife that knows how to wash clothes: they lasted 10-15 years. It's a good thing that I have a wife that knows what to do with leftovers. Some of the best meals I ate at home, like this morning, were leftovers from yesterday." I literally cried when Mr. Delgadillo explained how he and his wife managed to survive during those long 10 years of hardship while being forgotten by the people who once used to pass through his town. It's just great how people like him can explain these sort of things with such a huge wisdom and such a strength to have a smile on their face when recalling those memories. I hope one day I can visit this man and have a nice talk like this.

I get tears in my eyes watching this gentleman. My grandfather was a barber in Atlanta , Georgia before I was born. He gave me my first haircut when I was 6 months old. I spent a lot of time in his barbershop. I watched in awe when he preformed his art. He treated each customer as if they were the most important person in town. Watching him give hot shaves with his straight razor was always a special treat for me. I miss him and that barbershop so much. If I could go back in time, that is exactly where I’d go.

Mr Delgadillo reminds me of my grandfather. Most of us think the older generation only brags about how things were hard for them but all I've learnt from him is that things never really get easier. He used to talk about and compare the changes he saw as the world rolled before him. How life always found and will continue to find a way to challenge you. Only the tools change, only the perspective changes but the rules of life remain the same. When Mr. Delgadillo talks about his past, I remember how my grandfather would talk about the simple commodities he experienced in life and the beauty he felt in them. He was the most simple, faithful and caring man I have ever known. Though my father tells me about the stuff he told him, I just wish I myself had spent a bit more with him. Thank you for gifting me my ideals, Baba. We miss you and have, do and will always remember what you taught us. And thanks for the brilliant vid, Harry. As always a pleasure to be able to watch gems like this. I'm only 19 but I hope I get to hit Seligman and meet it's Angel some day.

One thing I can tell you is to listen to this man. Listen to the “old people” because they will teach you so much about life. Their value is so great and to often it is overlooked. He makes me want to be a better person.
@Muck0063 жыл бұрын
Sadly ... "listening to old people" and to "tales from decades ago" will get you called REGRESSIVE and worse these days, when it is simply "learning from the past".
@Solontire2 жыл бұрын
I think a better way to look at this is to listen to those who deserve to be listened to. Just because someone’s old doesn’t all of a sudden give them all the good values and intentions in the world. Same goes for treating those with respect who deserve respect.

What a marvelous old chap ! He reminds me SO much of my late maternal grandfather, the father of twelve children, whom I used to hear speaking in almost exactly the same manner, holding court at the head of the dinner table,..born in 1915, I used to love listening to his huge reservoir of stories.

I live in Arizona and I'd love to see him, but from my location its several hours away. I live more south east of the state. I've only been to one real barber once and the guy mostly worked on men, not females or young children. So my hair cut has not the best. XD I just love this guy's compassion and story telling. You can tell he enjoys what he does and takes his time unlike most places that tend to rush.

I very much enjoy listening to your wisdom of history. I also enjoy how effortless you make a perfect haircut and shave appear. I talk to my daughters like adults, not children. Just as my family did for me. I was lucky to have grandparents from the depression who talked to me, and gave me this same wisdom you give your customers and viewers. My parents were of the same school of thought and work ethic. I thank you sir, very much.

As a “younger person” (24), I completely agree. People around my age and younger, myself included, spend way to much time staring at a phone instead of conversing. Someone mentioned about going to a restaurant only to see a couple staring at their phones the whole time. Made me self conscious because I did the same thing to. Started being more conscious about it and now do my best to just put it away

Ive spent a lot of time helping my great grandpa and my dad work growing up. It wasnt fun and still isnt but you know what im very grateful because for it because of the life lessons i have learned. I can fix up my truck or vehicle if needed. I can change my own tires. I know i how to work a good few tractors. Ive build fence upon fence. When i leave the house im confident i can get a job and impress. Im not lazy like most people nowadays and im proud of it.
