@@mmb2333 it's literally the same base dye, they just tweaked it. They all used arctic fox phantom green as their base green color.

Both girls used Transylvania to darken their green which is just super, super dark pigmented blue dye according to the creator of arctic fox. That's why on the white ends it shows up as more blue since that's what the colour they mixed ACTUALLY looks like on a blank, untouched white surface. The top was more green because the roots were yellow to start out with and cancelled out the blue in the mixture.

Exacto moondooooe 👌😉 Phantom Green is so blue based, I always thought it was more of a true teal blue too. the yellow was just what the color needed to actually, be green, or more green I guess, because that bleach job was pitiful honestly 😬 I always add yellow to this color, and a little bit of black to get a more deep green color. Also transylvania is green based already too so hence a better result.

For those who don't know. Emerald green (or arctic fox's phantom green) had heavy blue tones. Blue pigment is a smaller molecule and because of that it tends to absorb more easily and deeply into porous hair. (The same reason blue hair likes to stay on the hair sooooo long and can stain) In porous hair you want to make it more yellow toned to combat that!

@@AKbaby89 yup! Red pigment is notorious for fading quickly! Even professionally done permanent color! The red pigment doesn't go as deeply into the hair cuticle as smaller pigments do! :) It's why red is notorious for staining the outer layer of hair pink, and why blue is notorious for never fully coming out of hair haha

I had it done professionally the first time, but I went in with freshly washed, virgin hair, and id never bleached my hair before, and had a pretty bad reaction and my head got *sooo hot* and swelled a little(I took allergy meds during it, one of the girls went n got some while I was still in the chair) and was burning so bad, it hurt *so bad* for over a week. So ever since then, I've used Sephora semi-permanent dyes to retouch my already dyed hair 3 times, but every time the pink fades so much faster than the purple&turquoise, and the purple&turquoise last for a really long time

Im tight on cash and only have enough to have to buy a possibly pulp riot or lunar tides for emerald green that I want as an all over color HOWEVER previously dyed my hair green/blue ombre. The green is faded but my ends are still blue (which is expected) my question is... I had a LITTLE bit of pravana yellow dye in my kit. If I apply the YELLOW to blue ends before I do the deep green all over will then prevent the bottom from having more of a blue hue?

Blue pigment is a smaller molecule....Im dubious of that claim. But AF phantom green is actually a layered dark blue that just looks green. So whiter ends will look blue, where yellow roots will look green.

If I had to do it I'd cry, but what he described is what most colorists I know do all day. It also helps that she has short hair, and the discoloration isn't everywhere - there were certain patches that would be more noticeable, and fairly easy for a stylist to fix.

But, of course, like you and he said, we don't know what happened with the stylist. Maybe the stylist did try that, and it didn't work for some reason, or they'd already put her hair through the ringer and the stylist thought it needed a break. Or the stylist was inexperienced or strapped for time, and hoped the client wouldn't notice, and figured she would come back and complain if it was an issue lol. I never recommend handling problems like that, but we all have bad days.

Good point, but i think its because the hair was yellow at the top and white at the bottom. Whatever dye she used was likely more blue than green. So when it mixed with the yellow, the roots went green and the ends went blue. Basic colour mixing

Don’t get artic fox in phantom green; it almost is always super inconsistent and washes down to that blue. I’ve tried it out on like 3 different people to poor effect on 2 of them and it turned blue on the third after one wash. I think it’s the way they mix it; the blue pigment is very strong. I switched to Lunar Tides’ Juniper Green.

Also that green is not the best one. I use crazy colors uv neon green and even with my blue hair underneath it never picks up the blue and it goes straight to neon green not even a darker tone. And my hair is patchy in some places but it comes out perfectly everytime. I tried a lot of colors, tried to switch to la riche directions, but their colors have stronger undertones and it didn’t do a great job especially when fading.

When I dye my friend's hair I have her buy two or three kinds of purple so that I can do the roots with the darkest, mids with the 2nd darkest and ends with the lightest. Then I comb through from the roots so that the colors pull out so she has a variety of shades streaking through the hair. This eliminates any "splotchiness" because the hair isn't one specific shade. throughout.

I tried dying my hair green about a week ago but got a shade too light and too blue and it was just a greenish turquoise and I didn't like it so I went to the hairdresser to get it fixed and it was slightly darker and less blue but still too blue and too light for my liking (they had rarely done green before though) and after a week that color has already almost faded back to the color I did myself. So now I'm trying to find out how to fix it and get it greener but it's really difficult to find anything on it

@@mosssssssssssssssss like the person above said you need yellows in your hair. That is EXACTLY what happened to me only I didnt go to a salon I did it all myself. When the blue is faded a bit try getting a yellow dye or a neon green dye to replace some pigment and then go over that with the desired green that you want. Its kind of like replacing reds when you want to go brunette from blonde. I hope that helps💚

2020 was definitely the year for green. I tried to dye my hair green for Months but it seemed everyone whose colors I wanted were sold out! Finally got around to it around July, and I look around the townsfolk (I work in the only grocery store in town) and of course I see green hair everywhere lol. Ok I’m not a professional hairdresser but heres what I think for Jay’s hair transformation: emerald green has sort of a blue tint I guess so when is was applied to the yellow-ish roots it went to the greener side but when it was added to the lighter blonde is turned to it’s original color. Obviously I’m not a professional, it’s just what makes most sense to me lol

ye, it's because the phantom green is SUPER blue and not very yellow, and blue is so overpowering especially on the very close to white color. when her ends were toned to that white color, the hair sucked in all the yellow instead of sitting on top, leaving only the blue on top. it's the same principle with dyeing grey hair, there's no pigment at ALL left in the hair which is why you have to add pigment back before going over it. basically, if you wanna go dark green, maybe skip the toner if it's yellow, especially if your hair is super damaged already. not a professional but my mom is friends with one.

I agree. The green color she used looked to be on the cooler side. Green is a secondary color made of the primary colors blue and yellow. Since this green was on the cooler side (more blue pigment) the warmer, yellow roots took on a more green hue while the cooler, very light ends took on a more blue hue. As Brad mentioned, the ends are more porous so they often end up with a different result then the roots and mid shaft. Basically, the darker/warmer parts of the hair reflected more of the yellow pigment in the green color, and the cooler/lighter parts of the hair reflected more of the blue pigment in the green color. When the ends are that light, they will mirror the underlying pigments in the color. My guess is she picked a more blue-green color (cooler green), and her ends were too light to achieve the true green she was going for.

i've used one manic panic envy green (don't remember which one) which also came out very blueish although much brighter than the arctic fox phantom green! with a regular touch-up of a diluted orange it gave the exact tone of moss green i was looking for. this week i'll try the phantom green and seeing the results in this video i'm glad i already bought a yellow as well. i'll probably dilute it with conditioner to make it a bit lighter too :)
