Mindblown. This is the best Corny, Maybelle, Velma and Ladies trio I've seen, and I've seen at least 10 different productions of this musical. The high notes threw my wig to outer space. Also, this has the best choreographies for hairspray ever. I can hear the bells was hilarious, there's no other production that had such creative ideas. This show and its cast has left some Broadway people unemployed.

As someone who has pretty much watch almost all the Hairspray productions on KZbin out there (may be an exaggeration lmao), but trust me I've watched A LOT of Hairspray productions and this one was one of the best ones I saw. I wouldn't say this is the top one but it's one of the top. The singers, the acting, the outfits, everything was perfect. The only thing unique about this one was that the audience was actually engaged and happy throughout the show which was literally one of the best things LOL

I remember these auditions at AMDA. The students in Songbook ran those musicals. If you wernt in Singbook GOOD LUCK getting in the show. You might get ensemble or small part if any. It got better when they all graduated and started trying to make an "album" lol . More students got opportunities to be in productions.

I thought that was so rude to say about students but I was young and naive back then 😂 🤡🤡 They must have felt like Gods in the small pond of AMDA but when they got out in that ocean GoFundMes, retail failed bands. I get it though entertainment business is no joke but there were waaaaay more performing opportunities when Songbook went away and they add black box, understudy performance and a concert evey semester.

Listen, I agree about the fat suit and everything, but here's the thing. This was AMDA in 2014. AMDA, as I've heard from former students, has been known to be a little noninclusive, which is an issue in itself, but it was also in 2014, y'all! Times were different and have changed. Fat suits aren't necessarily a bad thing, either! I was in a production of Lord of the Flies my freshman year of high school as Piggy. Now, I'm not obese, but I'm pretty damn big. I'm a king size snickers bar, okay? I didn't need a fat suit. However, my understudy was not fat like me, so they had to personally make a fat suit for him, which was pretty realistic. This was back in 2019. Sometimes, people need to realize you can't be offended by everything, especially if it isn't targeted at you. I think they definitely should've casted a bigger person as Tracy, yes and I'm not going to defend them on that aspect, but still! I think this production was very charming and it's one of the better versions I've seen!

and it’s all because most prestigious musical theatre programs are never inclusive with the type of students that they accept into their programs. I'm watching this for a school paper on the technical theatre aspects, but GOD. The fatsuit and the added fatphobic jokes? That's a big issue already in theatre. Being somebody going into theatre as an actress who's plus-sized, I always get told I'd be a great Tracy. Never Veronica Sawyer or Eponine. And to see that that's all I'm seen as in theatre, and our current theatre workforce can't even hire women like me for that role? It's incredibly inappropriate and unfair. Plus they went even further in making Edna masculine. Gave the actor barely any makeup to make him even slightly feminine.

If your unhappy about sizeism then don’t start sexism. Men can play women and women can play men. There is no rule. Same with weight. So please if you going to complain stick to the fat suit because if you are starting or continuing theatre. One thing you need to know is there is no right or wrong with men playing women, women playing men, boys playing girls or girls playing boys. Thank you

Ok, I’ve seen loads of criticism against this in the comments, as someone who’s seen the uk tour 3 times, I don’t have much to say but there’s definitely a lively audience here but at some point I hear laughing at a horrible line that amber says in the first act to tracy, I would never laugh at it due to being called similar names before and laughing at it when it’s clearly not a joke at all just doesn’t sit well with me. I didn’t laugh at all the fat jokes because that didn’t sit well with me either and that’s all I can say about this production.
