(15 Aug 1994) With security extraordinarily tight, Haiti's ruling military
leader and his most senior aides celebrated a religious and
national holiday on Monday (15/8) by attending a service in
Port-au-Prince's main cathedral. Dozens of police, soldiers and
plainclothes policemen stood guard outside Notre Dame Cathedral.
Others stood near Lieutenant General Raoul Cedras. As the service took place, hundreds of members of the civilian army recently formed by the military to counter as potential US invasion also stood outside.
