Nice video!!! The architecture and layout of downtown Cap-Hatien is very similar to Roseau, Dominica. Both cities offer beautiful mountainous views in the distant and the dreaded storm drains you mentioned!!!

It’s pretty easy! The first time I went back to the States after moving here, I was so scared to drive. It’s as if I’m more comfortable driving in Haiti than in the States.

Been meaning to do an episode like the market part of the video. Great stuff. -- And my team and I have been stuck in Cap traffic before... 3 hours in the same spot.. the only place worse in Haiti was Matisan before it became a gang adminstrated. The trick is to use the road that cuts south of the airport. A bit of a detour, and the road is not paved, but its better than 3 hour + traffic jam.

Yeah we take that road from time to time. But taking it everyday is a no for us cause we don’t have a car that’s solid enough for that road. It’s terrible! We would be at the mechanic every week lol.

Seeing a green but ripe orange, that's interesting I would have loved to see the inside of it. The City is so colorful but there but driving would freak me out. Hey! The oranges weren’t ripe. I was pointing out that they are regular oranges & not sour oranges. We have two types of oranges here. We use sour oranges to clean & marinate meat. The oranges in the video were regular oranges that weren’t ripe cause they picked them too early. Both sour oranges & regular oranges are orange when ripe. I hope that makes sense. Try googling sour orange or bitter orange. The guy cut the sugarcane into smaller pieces & put it in a bag. We don’t do anything special with it, besides eat it how it’s normally eaten.

I used a company to take it from Maryland to Miami. Then another one from Miami to Gonaïves. It was super easy. It arrived when they said it would. I can’t remember the company’s name cause it was over 6 years ago, but it wasn’t a Haitian company. I picked Gonaïves even though I needed the car in Port-au-Prince cause everyone told me to avoid the port in Port-au-Prince. The process to get it out of customs was really easy. But I hear it depends on the port. Also, this was over 6 years ago & I haven’t done anything like that since then so idk how things are now.

I’m an AA female solo traveler thinking about renting a car when I visit Okap. What are your thoughts on tourists renting cars during their visit?

Driving in Haiti is easy for me, but it took about two weeks for me to get comfortable. I personally wouldn’t recommend it unless you’ve driven in a country with similar driving conditions. Not many driving rules are respected. In Okap, you have to watch out for motos that overtake on both the right and left side and pedestrians that cross the street any which way. In traffic, people create additional lanes so it gets pretty hectic. Honestly, I would recommend taking taxis lol.
