Haitian migrants in Dominican Republic report harassment

People from neighbouring Haiti make up an important part of the Dominican Republic's workforce. But last year, the Dominican Republic deported more than 170,000 of them.
And now, with tensions over a new canal on a shared river, Haitian migrants are reporting harassment from security forces.

Totally biased report. We dominicans spend more than 40% of our health budget on pregnant hatians. We provide them with FREE healthcare and education while we hae to pay for health. Some schools have more hatians than dominicans. We provide work and even gave up roughtly 12% of our territory back in 1929 and 1936. We were the first who arrived in the 2010 earthquake to help. It is true that they are mistreated, but name one country that Don't misstreat ILEGAL migrants? We have incompatible cultures, diferent languages and polarized religions. Haitian women crosses the border to give birth purposely in the Dominican Republic. They know the doctors there won’t turn them away: Although the Dominican Republic is a relatively poor country, it treats everyone needing medical assistance regardless of immigration status. 35% of maternity care in the Dominican Republic is occupied by Haitians women, yet the Dominican Republic is not doing enough to help Haiti. Oh wait another stats: Dominican boys and girls are required 12+ documents to attend to schools in the country, yet nothing required for Haitian boys and girls. The real issue here is that the Haitian people need to own up to their problem and fix them within. And the international media should push for France, USA and Canada which has a moral responsibility with Haiti to go help out. Dominica Republic has its own set of problems to solve.

Haiti invaded the Dominican Republic and yes lasted 20+ years but it wasn't for the benefit of the Dominican people. Let me educate you . The majority of doctors in DR are Haitian because most patients are Haitian and they are the only one who get free medical coverage in the country. There are many Haitians teacher because now schools in Dr are schooling then in creole because the kids don’t know Spanish. If they are not educate they are not going to get jobs that pays because that’s what happens all over the world. If you have no legal documentation they will not get pay as well either. DR is a very poor country professional don’t get pay much that’s why most Dominicans migrate to the USA.
