"A man who rules with his left, rules the world." I guess people don't fully grasp what this quote means or how amazing Takamura is for doing this In order to beat someone using only your left in boxing means your fundamentals are on point. He's literally fighting with one arm tied behind his back, by doing that he has made himself very predictable because now his opponent knows which arm will be used, he also nerfed himself of his own power. That means in the fight, Takamura demonstrated complete mastery of - distance control - blocking - head movement - body movement - ability to read an opponent - counter punching - timing We forget but his opponent was a top 5 world ranker, the equivalent of all the other main characters in terms of skill like Mashiba, Sendo, Miyata, and Ippo and Takamura just took this guy down in the first round without getting hit once. The implications of this quote does come up again as in the second season when Ippo spars Ricardo, Ricardo only uses his left and knocks Ippo out, whereas Date who spars Miyata win but uses his right at the very end, hinting at the fact that Date is not on the same level as Ricardo coming into the fight.

So a man who rules with his left while hes a southpaw, rules the universe.
Takamura has more number of KOs than the combined IQ of the entire audience here

The coach is mad he cant lecture takamura, that always gets me.

That coach was having a battle of feelings in his head. Annoyed and proud at the same time is hard to experience.

Welp old time boxing trainers would say a right hand can get you around the block, but a left hand can take you around the world

Every few years I always come back and watch this, but face type of makes against his coach is so fucking funny. I love the relationship between these guys. It truly is like a boxing manga slice of life elements. God, I love this manga/anime

This show did such a good job of portraying how majority of boxing or fight fans are. Fighters like Kobashi, Mayweather get shit on only because they don’t go gung-ho in their approach and brawl like wild animals in the centre of the ring and use their brains to win fights instead.
@islandboy938111 ай бұрын
Funny thing is when Takamura went wild animal mode during Bryan Hawk match he still fought with the boxing fundamentals he trained with to pinpoint accuracy unconciously, just in a more aggressive, unpredictable way.

I like that this anime works within the realm of realism. Of course it is over the top, but not like character can destroy planets and reverse time. This make the series to rely on narratives and character development. Takamura is the only character able to pull a Deus ex machina because is the ideal boxer, the strongest character of the series.
@MaxusFox232 жыл бұрын
And the reason it works within reality is because the mangaka not only likes boxing but actually OWNS A BOXING GYM. So yeah, the mangaka knows how to portray boxing within realism.
