Types of Hajj
There are three types of Hajj: Tamattu’, Ifrad, and Qiran.
1. Tamattu’: Enter Ihram for ‘Umrah only during the months of Hajj. Perform Tawaf and Sa’i for ‘Umrah, shave or cut hair, then exit Ihram. On the 8th of Dhu’l-Hijjah, re-enter Ihram for Hajj and complete the Hajj rituals.
2. Ifrad: Enter Ihram for Hajj only. Perform Tawaf al-Qudum and Sa’i for Hajj, but do not shave or cut hair. Remain in Ihram until stoning Jamrat al-‘Aqabah on Eid day.
3. Qiran: Enter Ihram for both ‘Umrah and Hajj. Perform rituals of both with a single Ihram, offering a hadiy (sacrifice).
*Things to Consider When Entering Ihram*
1. Adherence to Religious Laws: Pray on time and in congregation.
2. Avoid Forbidden Acts: Avoid obscene speech, sin, and disputes as instructed in al-Baqarah 2:197.
3. Respect Fellow Pilgrims: Avoid annoying others with words or actions.
*Ihram Prohibitions:*
1. Do not cut hair or nails.
2. Avoid applying perfume after entering Ihram.
3. Do not hunt or engage in marital relations.
4. Do not wear gloves or marriage contracts.
5. Specific Rules for Men in Ihram
6. Head Covering: Do not cover your head with anything that stays on it. Umbrellas and tents are permissible.
7. Clothing: Avoid shirts, turbans, pants, and leather slippers unless necessary.
8. Accessories: Sandals, rings, eyeglasses, hearing aids, and money belts are allowed.
9. Hygiene: Unperfumed soaps are acceptable; scratching is permissible if unintentional hair loss occurs.
10. Specific Rules for Women in Ihram
11. Face Covering: Do not wear niqab or burqa’. Uncover faces unless non-mahram men are present, then cover.
