This is cultural. Men are always at the front when doing the haka (war dance) because they are protecting the women hence why women are at the back, we are there to support our men

The fact that you can barely see the woman is a good thing. The men are there to shield them but there are iwi (tribes) who have woman as leading heads because maori woman were and are still are just as capable as the men in our culture. They were sometimes also spared at the front in order to stand ground while the men were at war or out on ventures therefore the woman would have to protect the children and take the position of men while the children took position behind them.
