Thank you for posting this. I especially appreciate being shown how to set the temps !!!
@HansCampbell2 жыл бұрын
The standard Hakko Soldering Tips have a maximum temperature rating of 700 F. NEVER exceed this temperature or you will damage the tip. So, to be on the safe side, the maximum temperature should be slightly less than 700 F. Remember, solder melts at only 300 F. The extra heat is to compensate for the extra metal around the solder joint. The three best temperature presets are 550 F , 600 F , and 650 F. High temperature soldering tips, which have a maximum temperature rating of 800 F , are available, but they are more expensive. They are usually black or bronze in color. I show them and talk about them on my channel.

I just bought one but why don’t they state that info about their standard tips anywhere in the instructions? I wouldn’t have known if I didn’t see your comment

Boy, I'd heard the user interface wasn't that intuitive, and now I see why! Thanks for explaining it! Seems easy enough once you set your presets.

Idk what I did but I missed a step and try to get back to where I was and my iron just shot up to 1,000 degrees!

Was about to pack it up and return it because I couldn't get the presets to work. The manual they provide is not very good. Thanks for this video!

Where it says the label on the underside must be wide, ive just got a fx888d delivered off of amazon itself/prime, not a merchant seller and everything checks out, the box is recycled cardboard, the pen relief is soft silcone as is the pens cable. The metal plate is present inside the pen holder and i even opened it up to check that its correct inside, it is 😁 although the sticker on the underneath is smaller on mine 🤔 i am 95% satisfied ive a genuine iron so that sticker is not 100% correct in my opinion

Much more useful video than the official one. Also, it's crazy but in the manual I don't see this settings details. Thanks

You're welcome! For some odd reason, there is another version of the manual that you have to download from Hakko site that is basically the same...but has all of the parameter info. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching! I'm glad it helped!

I'm glad you said something about the dampness of the sponge, it weirded me out too... its like a oily substance... wondering if I should rinse it out all the way?
@FotoCreatives2 жыл бұрын
tip: Please do NOT use tap water but purified or demineralized water....and keep the sponge moist not wet) ;-)

A lot of sponges are sold that way so they can stay flexible

Thank you for making & posting this video. (I'll refer to it to change to preset mode). ¿Did your unit not come already in the preset mode from the factory? ¿Does it come in single set point mode out of the box? kindly. Thank you.

Yes, what you saw in the video is how it was out of the box. You saw the first time I powered it on and configured it. Thanks for watching!

Hey, thanks for excellent video, liked. Just wanted to ask is it okay to use lead solder instead of lead free solder. I think the hakko fx888d tips are tinned by lead free and are designed for lead free solder.
@djmoosecom2 жыл бұрын
That's a good question and never considered it. I have used the tips with both lead and lead-free and haven't noticed any problems yet. I'd love to hear others' opinions!

smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B013WII72Y/ I made sure to order from CONCORDE ELECTRONICS. Try to make sure you're ordering from an official distributor.

Do the tips come pre tinned

A small label dose not mean it is fake.

Why are you suppose to rip the two small pieces off the sponge? Seems like a good way to lose those two small pieces.

You know, I just assumed you should...I could be wrong!

I also did an unboxing and review of the Hakko FX-888D Soldering Station on my channel. FYI, the sponge is always the main way to clean the tip. I worked as an electronics assembler and engineers assistant for 25 years. We always use a sponge for cleaning the tip. We NEVER used that steel wool crap, so throw it into the garbage. I actually tried using the steel wool that came with my Hakko soldering iron. The tips only lasted 3 to 5 months. When I switched back to the sponge the tips last for years. I do not like the controls on the Hakko FX-888D. The analog controls on my old OK soldering station are much nicer and easier to use. Even the older Hakko soldering stations, with the analog controls, are better than this modern crap.

I'd like to see you change it hot without them. A bit of tension is fine. Calm down.

Well dam I messed up! How do I reset!? I did something different from you I guess and my iron shot up to 1,000 degrees!!!
@djmoosecom Жыл бұрын
Are you still having issues? Let me looks for a "reset" feature...but you should just be able to adjust your preset temp as I show in the video. Let me know!

My old Hakko has a Label that you would consider FAKE But it is indeed a real Hakko !! The only way to truly know is taking the cover off and look for the fuse and the little square chip on the motherboard !! LOL
@petermikus23639 ай бұрын
I'll be honest i absolutely despise the way this station looks, it looks like a toy rather than a tool.
@roerdomp16e Жыл бұрын
The hakko stations are overrated. They work fine, built well, but I do not find them very special, besides the looks. The menu is .... well... I would say disastrous, far to complicated and should be a lot more simple and intuitive. You can not do anything without consulting the user manual. It does not add any specific features. Some designers made this menu and went completely wild!
@VeritasEtAequitas Жыл бұрын
Yes, the interface is abysmal. Temperature control, response, quality of materials, and longevity matter too.
@rwbishop11 ай бұрын
That 888D has the worst UI ever. An infuriating embarrassment; it couldn't be more non intuitive if they tried. However, it looks like they've changed a few things since I bought mine.
