I don't really understand either, but Raphael's ever explained it. And don't get dissapointed, because everytime Rimuru evolved, his subordinates also receive gift. As example is Souei. Souei didn't get evolved directly from Rimuru, but from Benimaru (this happened at volume 14 in the LN). So still, everyone in his subordinates will grew stronger directly nor indirectly as long Rimuru's also growing stronger
