I keep coming back to this, I think Ive watched it at least 6 or 7 times. I started embroidery 6 years ago and am now an intermediate stitcher but this is a great tutorial to come back to for a groundwork refresher.

Merci pour cette vidéo en particulier car on voit très bien comment faire pour se repérer sur le diagramme et comment s'y prendre pour réaliser les angles au point de feston. Grâce à votre vidéo, je sais enfin où je dois piquer mon aiguille pour obtenir un angle parfait, je suis ravie d'avoir visionné vos images. Really helpful video and just what I was looking for. I cannot find Perle 5 where I live, can I use perle 8 thread and double it up on 28 count fabric, my buttonholes are always gappy!

I've never tried doubling up the perle 8 thread. Give it a try and see what it looks like. Good luck!

DEAR NINA I THINK I AM DOING SOMETHING WRONG BECAUSE WHEN I FINISH THE THE LASY CURVE AND STITSH THE STRAIT LINE I FINISH 2 THREADS UP FROM THE GUIDE LINE . MAYBE WHEN I COUNTED THE 16 THREADS FROM THE CLOSTER BLOCK , DO YOU COUNT FROM THE LAST STITCH OR ONE UP ,I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND MY QUESTION BECAUSE I CANNOT CONTINUE . Hi Louise. I'm not sure what is happening, however the most common reason I have found in the past is that I've not counted or stitched my curve correctly when doing the button hole at a corner. Stop the video where I show the corner on the graph paper then take a very careful look at where the needle goes in and out (and maybe even re-draw it yourself on graph paper to help you understand). I'm still working my way around the piece with this one. Glad to see I'm not alone on having issues with it (the corners). The stitch itself is easy. I think I finally have the corners down too! Life has kept me from getting it finished lately. My dad has been confirmed as having lung cancer so I want to get a new piece ready to stitch as I think I may be spending a lot of time in waiting rooms and hospitals soon. The piece I plan is large. I will be doing the center grid and thinking also I would do the corner area grid as you did on this one. When doing a larger piece (this one is 16.5" x 31" if I recall correctly) are there any other grids you would recommend? The pattern is on p. 34 of the Hardanger: A Growing Tradition II which I know you have (I bought it after watching your video. :D ) Any suggestions you can give me to help me get this one ready I will really appreciate. I know it's a big project for a beginner, but I know I may have need of something that will consume time and I've never been one to shy away from "too much" when beginning something I am whole-heartedly into. LOL. Hope you had a grand time last weekend. I am making 2 copies of the pattern so I can mark them up all I want. :)

Good idea on making two working copies. I do that as well. I don't have any other recommendations on gridding or keeping yourself in line with a larger piece. My only thought is be very careful when gridding (make sure you are always over/under 4 threads). I have been out by one stitch in my grid and not realized it. Then when I stitched my kloster blocks but found they didn't match up, I could not figure out why until I re-counted my gridding (live and learn). Working on this project will certainly make the time go faster! Good luck with your father, my thoughts are with both of you.

Thank you Nina. I will keep that in mind. Hoping to get the gridwork done today or at least begun. Would rather just work on my stitching. LOL. I posted it (WIP) - with a crumby photo, but at least you can see it- on Stitchmania on FB. Also posted some new "toys" I found at Dollar General. We'll see if they work like I am hoping. :)

@@griceldabecerra1946 You can use any even weave type of fabric except not aida. It does need to be evenweave, same number of threads per inch vertically (warp) and horizontally (weft). I would recommend somewhere around 22 to 25 threads per inch for a beginner. Are you able to order on line from the US? I would recommend Nordic Needle (nordicneedle.com), they carry the hardanger fabric). I hope this helps. Thank you for your kind words!

I ordered a size 24 needle for my #8 cotton but noticed when I opened them they are 26 not 24 that I ordered Can I still use them for the #8.

Hi Terri - As long as you can thread the #8 onto the needle, go ahead and give it a try. You may find it a bit difficult to thread but a needle threader will help. One reason you may want a bigger needle it to open up the hole of the fabric. However if you're needleweaving and doing dove's eyes, this doesn't really apply.

It took me a while to get used to it to. Many times I'd forget to hook my thread, but I think the hardest was getting even tension. Keep swimming, it will come!

Others would agree with you! Go slow and adjust each stitch, you'll get the hang of it.

Oh wow, this stitch is giving me some trouble. It's quite hard to see where the correct holes are. But I am going to conquer this!
