one great thing about the show was the actors were the same age as the characters in the story. a lot of shows a kid that in the story that's supposed to be 16 the actor would be 23

So the cutting episode with Ellie... I watched that after my teen years which is kind of sad because I had heard rumour of a Degrassi reboot but didn't discover it until season 6 was airing. And I went back and watched all the seasons and watching Ellie just broke my heart because I was just like her in high school. I had different issues that I dealt with, but I was most like her. Even how I dressed, although I was a little more out there and less so in the punk/emo uniform. But seeing that episode and seeing Ellie, I felt better because I knew it was something that other kids were doing. I can see how it might have lead kids to thinking it was ok, but ultimately she does get help and life turns around for her slowly but surely. So I don't think the producers made a bad decision, it was just bringing something that was a lot of kids's dirty secret to light and that's always going to be problematic.

Schools out bothered me so bad. I hated that storyline sooo much. They changed the characters of Joey & Snake so much for it. Snake was always popular with the ladies so why make him look like a pathetic, take anything that walks dude? And then with the Joey character they turned him into someone who had no feelings and didn't care he was cheating with such an underage Tessa. And the original Joey character had limits and cared about his friends. With that all being said. I absolutely loved Degrassi junior high & high.
