"Barney Miller" Television Royalty every now and then all the stars line up perfectly the result is pure Artistic Genius. For a sitcom to be propelled into Pop Culture stratosphere Lore something organic happens it cannot be advertised for it cannot be cast for as the saying goes all the stars lined up perfectly that quality is the actors charisma for the role the actor's chemistry with fellow actor's on the set often referred to as the "IT Factor" it's an Organic phenomenon one cannot cast for nor can it be rehearsed into the shows on screen appeal. All the great shows have had it each member of the cast was unique where the role becomes them a happening that seldom occurs. It unimaginable to fathom anyone else in the role of Fish, Inspector Luger, or Scanlon just the thought of these actor's in said role brings about smiles & laughter. Living on in the hearts and memories of an entire generation the litmus test for a television comedy to be considered a classic is will it survive the test of time 30 years since it last aired could you play an episode for an entirely new audience and still get laughs well Barney Miller is as funny today as it was yesterday. Taken its rightful place along side the Honeymooners, I Love Lucy, Barney Miller thanks for the memories....... Cruzer

"Not over-the-top..." Excellent analysis, and shows why 'Barney Miller' still holds up after 40 years. It's based on character, not 'funny' situations.
