My favourite Wojo/Dietrich scene was in the opening of another episode when they come into the squad room at the beginning of their shift, engaged in some deep conversation. Dietrich says, "You know, in a Hegelian dialectic, the conflict between two opposing forces always comes to a predetermined conclusion." Wojo answers: "Oh yeah? Well I still think the Rangers could have won last night if they'd scored that goal in the last minute." To which Dietrich replied "Not according to Hegel."

Love the chemistry between these guys. You could put any pair together whether its Dietrich and Wojo, Harris and Barney, Barney and Nick, Nick and Dietrich, Barney and Wojo, Wojo and Harris, Fish and Barney, Harris and Dietrich, Levitt and Barney etc. magic happens

Barney Miller : I'll go with you myself. Det. Janice Wentworth : Please, Captain Miller? You're gonna have to let me go some time. Barney Miller : What do you say, Fish? Fish : I'd like to, Barney, but it would kill Bernice if she found out I died in the company of another woman. Elizabeth Miller : Phil, that is just terrible! Fish : Okay, Wentworth, come on. But I'M driving.

The guy was fantastic as a comedic actor. As good as anyone I've ever seen. But I recently saw a clip of him doing stand-up and was hugely disappointed. Two very different skills. But on "Barney Miller" he and Fish ruled.

I know this show came out before 'CHEERS' but, IMO, Dietrich has some of the qualities that Woody had...you think he's going to 'zig', then pulls out a 'zag' at the last minute. Perfect deadpan delivery.

jessie james better things? Cheers was sophisticated, intelligent and brilliantly hilarious that filled the void of Barney Miller for the 80s as a top notch ensemble sitcom so Idk how you're saying it as if it was. some stepping stone for Woody. He was lucky to have ever been apart of it
