If you want an even coat of ink for your background, try using the the chisel tip. It has a better ink flow and takes more time to dry, so you can make multiple layers until it looks smooth.

it seems like for starting out it might be a cool idea to get ohuhu then fill in with copics/replace as you go and they dry out? That's what I'm doing to not invest overly in the medium right off the bat. The question then is - do ohuhu/finecolor/touchnew play nice and blend well with copics?

amazing drawing as always. i personally don't think that in this background the splotchynes is a bad thing. it looks like "smoke" or "cloudy" if you know what I mean. nice contrast between the sharp and clean even colouring. ❤ I think someone discribed the ohuhu brush nibs more like felt and the copics more like foam. what do you think about that ?

I thought that too. The addition of the white dot stars I did I feel helped out a bit. As far as the tips go, I think I'd agree with that too. honestly i prefer the ohuhu markers. Also they have a 72 colour pack for the alcohol based brush nibs. I'm getting those in a few days time. I have used copics before and i do really like them but aside from the massive vibrant colours in ohuhu's that's pretty much the only downfall and even then, i dont find it too much of a problem since i draw alot of anime (alot of one piece) so its not that big a of a deal. That ontop of the no refills like you mentioned. I say in around a years time or so, they will be a fully valid competitor for copics since there's not much wrong with ohuhu's. Anyway, nice review of them. i enjoyed watching the video.
@Lexouchan5 жыл бұрын
The refills are a bit more expensive than a sketch but they refill a marker 10+times. So it is really worth it in the long term ! (A shame that not available locally though. In my case I can't even find the sketch locally so I have to shop online anyway). The only difference between the ciao and the sketch are : design of the barrel and caps, amount of ink inside and number of color available. Other than that they perform exactly the same. So I don't think an new comparaison is necessary. One thing that bother me with Ohuhu is the not refillable and not open stock options. I am not someone who buy marker sets, I always bought open stock choosing my colors carefully depending on my taste and needs. But I understand that can be quite daunting and some people might prefer the convenience of it. I think These are good for a first set. To get to know if you like alcohol brush markers or not. And if you do, expand your collection or replace your dead markers with a open stock and reffillable option. I would like to see you compare other reffilable brands to copics (touch twin from shinhan or blick brush markers).
@lela.the.artist5 жыл бұрын
Oh, yea the only difference between Copic and Copic ciao are just the looks, but it's definitely fun to do these comparisons, so I enjoy doing the Copic ciao versus also because I have a different color selection with them too. I totally agree with the rest of what you say. I would like to test out the Touch Twin and Blick Brush markers, but it might be a bit before I do because I have so many other brands at the moment. Thank you for watching!! =)

To fill in backgrounds I find that moving the marker in a vertical up and down motion fills the paper better, but you have to do it quickly or it will look streaky. It will probably look a little streaky regardless which is why I do another layer to even it out. Using the broad tip fares better for larger areas. I have got some fairly smooth blended backgrounds doing it this way. I have the Ohuhu fine tip/chisel tip set of 80 and I actually really like their markers. I didn't expect to like them as much as I do, definitely a good purchase. I agree that they need to offer some lighter/paler shades. I do want to try the brush markers, but I am going to wait until the larger set of colors come out before I purchase them. Great review, TFS!

Ooh that ink flow test for the Ohuhu markers was soooo satisfying to watch. Also, I haven't watched the whole video yet, but I'm guessing the character in this illustration is based off of Pluto because of the heart earrings. (Pluto had a really cute heart shape on its surface) (edit) Either that, or it's based on Venus, since the planet's named after the Roman goddess of love.

To get a less splotchy background instead of doing a circular motion which is great for blending I would try to color one direction like horizontally and then coloring vertically I’ve found that works best for backgrounds. I would also suggest using the chisel side instead of the brush for coloring backgrounds or large areas in general.

I love the Ohuhu side much more for the color of her hair and skin tone combo. Even though I love the muted skin tone of copics, honestly I've been dissappointed with the ones I've gotten. I have a very limited selection of the copics as well, and I've found a lot of them have dried up even though I made sure the cap is on properly. I don't know why so many have done this, whether it's a fault in the marker's design or somehow my doing. Compared to my prismacolor markers, I've had those last for years and still be good to use. I tend to suppliment my alcohol marker style with a touch of colored pencil now and then to get more even coloring, especially on backgrounds. I don't think that the patchy spots where your colored in look bad since you're doing a space-themed piece. It gives it a bit of an interesting texture behind the star pattern. :)

👑Copic definitely performed better. I just got a little over 100 brand new ones not too long ago, but I'm still super excited to get and try out the Ohuhu brush nibs! ❤

@@lela.the.artist I know! I had about 8 of them from YEARS back & I've been wanting more of them for years. I have 5 children, so I never really wanted to spend money on myself. But I started working 2 jobs and finally saved up to get some! Now, the problem is that I don't want to use them that often since they were SO expensive.

I don't use alcohol markers but I do like the Copic side. Venus is actually my favorite goddess in mythology. I have a character who looks similar with pink hair and dark skin, but has orange eyes.
@lela.the.artist5 жыл бұрын
I love orange eyes! I would have gone for something like that, but my color selection is rough when it comes to Copic lol. Thanks for watching!! =)

I'm relatively new to markers, so I have about 75 Bianyos and a dozen or so Prismacolors, about 10 Copic ciaos. My disappointment with the Bianyos is that the colors are *too* vibrant for my taste. There's nothing subtle about them. For that reason (I want the option of laying down subtle colors), I prefer the Copic side of your painting. Also, my experience with the three brands of markers I have is that the Copics are by far the best at blending. But - npow I have to wait until November 2020 before Ohuhu comes out with a larger selection of colors???

I love the Ohuhu better only because that what I can afford I have a few Copic's that came in color group set. I also have Caliart, Aspire color markers they're too good. Q? What papers you use with your markers and drawing pens
@catmcflooffloof48323 жыл бұрын
I honestly just love both- Ohuhu is bright and vibrant, while copics give a smoother and less saturated colors, Both are amazing imo

For an even fill with markers, what I do are these: 1. I work small, so I don't have to fill in a large space and waste more time and ink than I need to. To replicate this on a larger scale if you need to, outline a certain part of the space and fill that in - keep doing that until the entire desired area is filled! 2. Try to avoid doing the circular strokes for the most part - Copic (and most/all other alcohol markers) have uneven ink coverage when different levels of pressure are applied. Use more linear or defined strokes instead. 3. If it looks streaky, go over it! This works especially well when the ink isn't dry yet, but still helps even if it is. Hope this helps!

The artwork is really pretty and it's nice to see how the brands compare side by side! However the whole time something felt a little off and after looking closer it appears that the pupil on the left side of her face is a little further to the left than the other pupil. For the markers I could see the vibrancy of ohuhu being better for more cartoony or anime styles while the copics feel more natural so for more realistic styles they'd really blend nicely!
@lela.the.artist5 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree about the vibrancy. And yea you're right about the pupil lol! I didn't notice before. Thanks for watching!! =)

Hi Halalela, 🙋🏾♂️. I was wondering what kind of paper you were using? I noticed these little white speckles throughout your piece. I figured it was the paper and not the markers because it happened on both sides.
@lela.the.artist5 жыл бұрын
Yep so I actually had to research this and what I found was that in the paper making process, the wood pulp isnt always even when the paper is made. I don't know if this is an issue with other types of paper, but I'm definitely going to be checking out a different sort of paper soon to see if I still get that same effect, or not. Thanks for watching!!

What kind of paper do you use when using copic markers

I use "X-press It" Blending Card paper made in size 8.5 by 11. You can find them on Amazon. =)

Hello it’s meh again I was wondering what kind of paper you use since I only have thin paper and the marker will bleed right through
@lela.the.artist5 жыл бұрын
In this video I use the "X-press It" blending cards in size 8.5 by 11. I also recently bought a sketch book where I'm able to use my markers and they dont bleed through. It's called the Rendr Sketchbook, by Crescent and its amazing!!!

What paper did u use for the blending part? Is cardstock good? If it is what brand is the best? Please. Help

i know *copic* has the best colour collection, while *ohuhu* has the vibrancy that wows me. I don't think it's fair just because *Copic* is much more older then *Ohuhu markers*, which gives *Copic markers* an advantage when it comes to colours, nibs ect. If you check the Channel for *Copic* related videos, you can see some of them were from *9 years ago*! While *Ohuhu markers* have been around for 3 years downwards. I personally love the *Ohuhu markers* and would die to get *Copics* .

does anybody know what paper is the best to use for these markers?
@iotaku215 жыл бұрын
it's hard to choose which one is better. personally i'm slowly switching over to copics mainly because i get a better control of the brush nib. also they do have a wider range of color. however, i have been wondering about other brand of alcohol based markers for a while (mainly cost wise 'cause copics are a pretty penny, and of course prismacolor as well ^^;) ohuhu has been on the top of my mind and the only thing that is leaning towards winning me over, is in fact the color of ohuhu is a lot more vibrant than copic and very similar to prismacolor that i normally use (because half of the time i use the faber-castell coloring pencils if i want that soft and/or pastel look). though i do want to say a small tip that might help with doing the background to help out the patchiness is using just the chisel tip of either the same color you use, or a colorless blender. :)
@lela.the.artist5 жыл бұрын
I definitely feel these Ohuhu's are a great starter pack for the price. I'm slowly growing my Copic collection as well by purchasing colors one by one lol. And sweet I'll definitely do the chisel nib from now on. I had a feeling the chisel would be better. Thanks for the info! And thanks for watching!! =)

Copic markers obviously have more colors compared to Ohuhu which allows to make more color and tone varitetes. Hopefully, we will see more sets from Ohuhu soon!

I really really hope Ohuhu makes a pastel color pack. I think they would sell great! Thanks for watching!!!
@himalayansalt325 жыл бұрын
@@lela.the.artist yeah, pastel tones are the ones that practically are impossible to find among Ohuhus In Copics you are able to get BV0000 and E0000, but Ohuhus...well, the opportunity to draw light skinned people or pursue "watercolor-like" look of a drawing is less achievable compared to Copics...

I'm guessing Venus. We shall see. Haven't reached the end of the video yet. Are your illustrations available for sale??? Congrats on 10k subs. I just subscribed! I watched one of your videos a few days ago, bit forgot to subscribe so I'm glad this video popped up in my suggestions.

Good guess!! Hehe. And as far prints for sale, I've been thinking of doing that. I just put a poll up in my community tab here on KZbin asking about interest and price range in prints. Maybe I'll do an etsy soon. And thank you so much for watching and subbing!! =)

to lay backgounds/slash larger areas such as thighs, i lay them down like a printer, very uniform going back and forth, once that's laid down, i go over it with the circles, gives a much more uniform result

I dont perefre to use only ne brand of markers. I want to use both! Copic for lighter shades or lighter areas like eyes for my drawings and Ohuhu for hair or brighter more vibrate areas of a drawing. I think if you used them both on a drawing for certain parts it'll look cool.

I like colic better but they are too expensive for me at the minute so gonna get some ahuhu brush markers instead. Hopefully for Christmas lol!
