Haley & Casey at Room 5 Lounge in LA. Don't know the name of this song but Haley does this cool thing where she scats in a trumpet voice. Incredible performance. March 31st, 2014

She is truly one of the most unique, dynamic and talented singers of this era. Amazing performance!!

mkzzzzzz Casey is a talented musician and performer as well. However, he is not versatile, unique and amazing as a vocalist. His forte is jazz, in the main, while Haley's forte is Jazz and everything else. You reckon Casey can do what Haley did here? When commenting on HALEY's performance of Rhiannon, one "moondoggy02116" said it just right: "ST was really the only one who came close to seeing the magic of this performance. Very few performances have stayed with me for longer than a few days, but this one was unforgettable, and restraint was part of the beauty. We didn't need another "Haley growl." That's why Casey Abrams (who was one of the most talented EVER to grace that show) got sent home -- restraint was the one skill he never learned." The big difference of Haley from most others, is her “musicality” gene. It is a vital part of her being able to communicate what is there in the music and lyrics to others. This goes along with her being emotional or very expressive or very sensitive, with the ability to be demonstrative, or dramatic, or vivid. Perhaps it has to do with a keen sense of imagination or the ability to visualize music in connection with other senses and her unique vocals. From a vocal and musicality viewpoint, nobody is as good all round; she can sing ANY GENRE well, has incredible vocal range and control, with many unique inflections and the ability to transition from light ethereal tonal qualities to raw growly rock or killer jazz. All cleverly done with inflections, subtle pantomimes, and poignant push with her unique vocals - and investing it with her own oomph and panache: scat, yodel, growl, whistle, do riffs and runs. Haley gives us goosebumps because she is able to put the emotion in every single note and sings the lyrics like she lived them. Her eye-candy good looks, musical talents, unique voice, and live performance panache makes her the best on Idol ever and is truly one of the most unique, dynamic and talented singers of this era.

The name of this song is Steamroller Blues, written by James Taylor

Right on! I wonder why JT wasn't credited. Although the tune may have more historic roots, too.

Indeed! He wrote it to mock the artists of the time acting like they were super hardcore blues artists. Song still hits though. It's a bad ass track regardless of it's intention.

That harmonica/trumpet thing tho... how does she do it? How??? So much talent in one video.
@slifek855 жыл бұрын
It's funny though the harmonica was used to imitate a sad crying voice.Not often do you see it the other way around. :)

The astonishing thing, to me, is that, although she is a vocalist, she has a remarkable understanding and command of the ways that different instruments trace lines within a chord pattern. In the same way that it's hard to find a pianist who actually keeps solid tempo, it's hard for a singer to get the way instruments follow a chord progression. This. Is the greatest. Singer. Of my lifetime.

Man...she does that so good! Girl is very talented. Casey does jazz and the blues damn good, and what can you say about Haley, she does it all, from the hand trumpet on this song to exquisite whistling on "Dock of the Bay." And she can sing any genre. Though, I still haven't heard do opera yet. So almost any genre.
