I imagine that this is the "bad ending" of the Half-Life timeline, where Gordon Freeman never arrived to save humanity and the suppression field eventually wiped out the human race. After the Combine extracted all of Earth's resources, they completely left, and this is what remains.

Sure, every human is gone, and that's scary. Clearly worse however, is the fact that a whole interdimensional empire's presence, possessing advanced technology and capable committing unspeakable things, is just gone. Not even the automated systems, such as Overwatch or heavy machinery, seem to be active. Even the invase species on the other side of the spectrum, the organic ones from Xen, are not present. No traces of recent conflicts. Not a hint of the Gman either. The silence is definitely deafening. I like this mod.

would be cool if automated systems are still present (also i don't count cameras, turrets and cscanners and overwatch voice as living beings so yeah) if all npcs has to be removed, maybe make a seperate camera, turret entities and just have them as props or in-active or something?

@@wedoalittletrolling723 I think the Overwatch voice would probably be too busy responding to whatever catastrophic situation it is that's going on here, to speak any of its usual pre-criminal lines. It would probably be issuing orders and requests, heard by no one, to try and get any of the following problems addressed: * Dr. Breen's disappearance - Breen is an exceptionally important asset to the Combine, so there are probably systems to monitor his health and location. * The Citadel seems to be a site for the repair and deployment of large synths such as Gunships, Striders, and Dropships. This seems to hinge on the labor of a lot of Stalkers and transhuman soldiers - the disappearance of all those workers, and of the synths themselves, would immediately grind the Citadel's functionality to a halt. * The disappearance of Advisors in the Citadel. * The Overwatch voice might prioritize the issue of the Citadel suddenly becoming more or less completely unguarded, in which case it would probably be trying to contact ground units to order them to abandon their posts and guard the Citadel. * Depending on the scale of the mysterious depopulation event, the Citadel/Overwatch voice may have lost contact with all other urban centers on Earth, and so it may report a total communications failure. * If it even extends as far as the Combine homeworld, losing contact with them would probably be an extremely high priority problem that the Overwatch voice would try to get addressed. Hearing the Overwatch voice administering endless warnings and orders to an empty city seems like it could be rather unsettling...

Even though I know this is unlikely to happen, it would be very interesting to imagine that the portal in Nova Prospekt teleported Freeman to Kleiner's base not after a week, but say, 10 years later. And instead of a ruined City 17 due to civil war, we would be walking through an empty City 17 that had been reclaimed by nature

My head-canon is that this is a Freeman variant who escaped stasis (Fresh from the previous game with just his suit but no weapons) but was entrapped and herded into an abandoned City 17 world where the Combine successfully sapped the world of its resources and left it a husk. G-Man didn't come after him because the trap was a fail-safe feature if ever a variant broke free. And here he is at 27 years old, alone, processing and contemplating the last 8 days he just went through. jfc Half-Life is dark af

@@WadDeIzyou should add a single enemy somewhere but it's out of bounds and all you hear is it dying once. Actually, maybe make it a human NPC dying so we just hear the noise of that happening. Perhaps it's just Gordon's mind playing tricks on him or they're voices of anguish from the past.

You know? You'd figure that the premise of having humanity enslaved by this hyperinvasive alien species would be terrifying enough, but it isn't in the slightest when you actually sit down and play the game. They serve as a climax to this decaying world, a signal that you've already found the root of everything wrong with this fictional story and can finally calm down. But here you are: the city is completely empty. No bratty voice laughing at you like in Portal, which is a game that's already known to be unsettling. Here you get constant reminders something horrible definitely happened here, but you will NEVER understand what it is, how it happened or if such horror is still out there, about to get you. Extremely simple mod in concept, but it does manage to mess with you more than any alien invasion ever could. It makes you wonder if the reason why people feel uneasy playing Gmod maps alone is they have the textures and sound effects, but no villains, no voicelines nor people interacting with you. Just a bunch of assets meant to represent the world is coming to an end.

I think the lack of atmospheric noises in some parts adds to the total isolation in some parts. But a couple ambient sounds such as wind and materials creaking would add a lot. The complete lack of ambient nature sounds like birds, tells to me that the planet is completely stripped of ALL organic life, and that Gordon Freeman is truly the last organism on the planet.

You know it doesn't feel like it's at night time but like the lights are off. It feels like you're at an empty Stadium or at a theme park after hours. It doesn't feel abandoned just closed for the day. Not entirely a liminal space but very close.

I think Gordon arrived a little too late. City 17 is abandoned, with no signs of life except gordon. Who knows what happened to other people around the world? This probably takes place in the Portal Error universe.

I think this mod needs more ambience. Sure there's no living thing around, but I imagine the citadel is still running and making *some* noise. Some wind, thunder. Alarms going off maybe? It's *too* quiet where it's not immersive.

In this timeline Combine has already taken every human to it's army and the Combine didn't see a reason to stay on earth so they got off to attack other planets. Some months later Gordon Freeman appears in city but he sees that there is no one in the city so he tries to find an alive human but he cannot. Gordon doesn't understand why he has appeared in this empty russian city

@@Nikodem8378Simple, City 17 was inspired by the city of Sofia in bulgaria, alot of the reference pictures that valve took also originate from city 17. Bulgarians also write in acrylic (the funny looking russian letters)

I would like to imagine this being someone's first experience with half life 2. They just finished half life 1 or maybe Black Masa and download half life 2 off of steam, never seeing anything about the game before this point. And this is the experience that follows. They go on the internet confused and gain no understanding of what he experienced, seeing nothing but normal half life 2 that everyone else has played. He shows someone else their version of the game and when he boots it up its normal half life 2 with no sign of what they had experienced.

Seems like I wasn't the only one who had that idea, was going to have a similar premise and call it Kenopsia. But you've added an interesting twist to have it entirely in perpetual night, certainly makes it feel just that extra ominous! And the silence, the ever-so deafening silence is what messes with me the most, which for some unknown reason I completely didn't pick up on until much later. Furthermore, it surprised me to see that not even the toxic waters are even toxic anymore. It's just.. dead? Yet the airboat section appears to be much more harder to traverse through now however, simply because you've largely eliminated what we've relied on, that being sight. It's incredibly dark without the sunlight, and the airboat's light just barely penetrates the darkness, making it just that little bit more difficult to avoid crashing into any obstructions, or even locating your next destination. It completely throws off my sense of direction, and I think I love it? Then came Black Mesa East & Ravenholm. Somehow it never crossed my mind that you'd end up going through that area without the Gravity Gun, which makes me wonder what the later levels will entail, now that you've removed a key component to progressing levels that would normally require this device. Next up was Highway 17, which was _interesting_ to say the least. What I've said during the Airboat section could be partially or even fully said here as well. Just the lack of a light from the vehicle is what seems to be missing here. Though I know it's not easy to implement that. As for the last part of the video, the complete lack of any antlions and atmosphere is just even more deafening, only interupted by the player's movement, interaction & actions. Besides that, there's just no distant noises, no ambience, no wind, nothing. It's as if the entire world itself died in a way, all that we took as granted is now gone, and all that it leaves us with is a disturbing feeling that something just isn't right. And I think that's fantastic. Some things I noticed: - Despite the lack of *_any_* lifesigns, there's still the presence of blood to be found on occasion, possibly implying that something must've happened very recently. - This statement is further backed-up, considering all the electricity still exists, obviously allowing all the lights, machines and so on to continue functioning as expected, at least for a while. Also holy shit your framerate. Shouldn't you limit that to your monitor's refreshrate? 👀

@@littlehorn0063 One day I watched the cartoon 'Hey Arnold!'. In one of the episodes, Uncle Oscar tried to learn to read, but he couldn’t. And he was shown walking around a city and looking at street signs, but in his eyes all the signs looked like non-existent weird scribbles. I then thought: 'wow! it looks very fascinating and disturbing; it would be cool if anyone created a new game like Silent Hill, where there would be a ghost town with the usual signs/books/posters, and then turns into dark otherworldly version with different nature laws and scribbles instead of all letters'. That's how I came up with this idea.

A barren planet. Not even a hint of wildlife. Quick question: Does the suppression field only affect mammals? If there are still micro-biology, how long until they evolve? Although I doubt they'll evolve fast enough to witness any landmarks, let alone anything made by intelligence before they get eroded by time and weather.

This mod looks super creepy, loving it so far! I think you should add like little anomalies that mess with the player or something like that, like hidden ghost faces or props that follow you etc.
