If you carefully notice the colour of the text it will be blue and orange ( colour of the portals in the portal saga ). As the book is about teleportation maybe he is assosiated with aperture science..

I still don´t get what Gordon did to get "replaced" by Alyx, like I don´t remember disobeying Gman orders in any Half-Life game, yes the vortigaunts kept Gman away from Gordon in EP1, but that wasn´t Gordons fault, he didn´t ask the vortigaunts for protection, I really don´t know what is Gman talking about and seems kind of stupid to me, just the fact that a scientist survived Black Mesa (That is no joke), went to Xen (A unknown planet where everything wants to kill you) and killed the boss, then he gets time traveled to the events in Half-Life 2 to go all the way through a city filled with soldiers and zombies to destroy the citadel tower and "kill" Breen, if that is not badass I don´t know what it is. Alyx is also very smart and capable of fighting all the aliens and shit, but she is no near the level of Gordon Freeman, maybe in the future she becomes more relevant but for now, shes still a sidekick. Maybe from HL2EP1 when the vortigaunts kept away Gman from Gordon, maybe from that game Gordon starts doing things to help the resistance and Alyx and that pissed off Gman, but I still don´t know if im right about that. Also I still want the next Half-Life be in the snow and all the borealis stuff, plus Gman could spawn Alyx somewhere near the Borealis and give her a mission and you would play some parts of the game with Alyx and some with Gordon and at some point they will reunite again.

I believe one of the main reasons why Gordon was replaced with Alyx is because Gordon is not so easily manipulated. He has no family to taunt and control him with, whereas Alyx does in Eli. In order to get any level of control with Gordon, the G-Man needed to place him in the exact place that'd most likely lead to him into doing what was needed. The fact that the G-Man is so vague with Gordon when speaking to him implies, at least to me, that he believes that Gordon would be more likely to disobey a direct order from him, with the exception of escorting Alyx to safety. Instead, opting to place him down where he'd go about and do what the G-Man wants without realizing.
