Man Rockstar had to make me feel like shit while i played this game didnt they? Theres nothing cool about war, theres nothing cool about crime. No matter how hard you try, good things just wont happen. The games story just highlights that fact through the portagonist Niko. Liberty City is the best map in any video game, not because of its physical structure, but by the fact that its the real antagonist in the game. LC doesn't just kick Niko down the second he gets there, it makes sure Niko stays on the ground. The whole game isn't trying to make the American Dream, it's to survive in a hostile, alien place, full of danger, death, and misery.

The reason GTA 4 theme sounds so dark and depressing compared to those of the other GTA games is that there is no happy ending to Niko's story... *Spoilers*: If he chooses to be a criminal forever, his love interest dumps him and his cousin gets killed from one of his associates who betrays him (Dimitri). If he kills Dimitri, to cut his connections with the underworld and live like a normal person, Kate will finally accept to be his girlfriend, but she will end up getting killed just few minutes later by the mob boss Jimmy Pegorino, as a payback against Niko. Niko will eventually get his revenge on the killer of his cousin/girlfriend but he will still lose one of the persons he cared the most in the game. Either way it is a tragic end to a tragic character considering all the dramatic events Niko went through before the game (the war) and during the game itself. And that's why GTA 4 is by far the most serious and realistic game in the series, not to mention the best one for the story.

I think Gta V does a brilliant job of highlighting the pseudoculture and facades that exist in the real world and especially in the real LA. It highlights real phenomena and stories and presents them in an exaggerated way.

I love GTA IV especiallu Niko, almost every GTA Characters becomes a Criminal because they wanted to, and they enjoyed it, but Niko is different, he's the only character in the series so far that had no choice but to turn into the life of a criminal, he didn't want any of this, but he was forced to, he cleary is trying to leave the life of a criminal and try to live a happy normal life, but he just can't, his past would always haunt him and try to drag him down, and this Music really pictures it, especially the name of the song itself being "Soviet Connection" He is the most human GTA Character in the entire series.
