FAQ? Explanation? Let's see.. - Game: Sven Coop is a Half-Life 1 based game with the heavily modified GoldSrc engine called Svengine. As original Half-Life, Sven Co-op has Half-Life 1 campaign which has been used to speedrun. - Game Version: Speedrun has been done on the version 5.25, since it has useful revive glitch working on grenades. Probably this is the only reason why we didn't choose the most suitable version 5.22. - Project: This project as a kind of hobby has started on the 17th of August 2022 originally by BotSkipper and ended on the 13th of September 2023, time later the team has been expanded to 7 people (BotSkipper, kolokola777, Sw1ft, QEES, void, iMicro, jorikgrozniy). The project doesn't aim to any particular target such as fast as possible run, etc. You can, maybe must, consider it as a fun experiment but not as a serious challenge, although it shows pretty good results, strats and theoretical possibilities of HL1 speedrunning. - Speedrun: Classified as Scripted, Tool-Assisted, Timescale Assisted, Segmented, RNG and FPS manipulated. You can find slowmotion version of the run and time sheet in the description. - Segments: In Sven Co-op, HL1 campaign has total of 35 maps, 2 of them are intro and outro. Leaning on RTA rules, the speedrun was done on 33 maps, excluding intro and outro. Each map has been recorded separately without any saves or saving our weapons and stats for the next level to run, it causes some strategies impossible to use, but still it made speedrun a bit more legitimate (since the game doesn't have working save system and making a custom one isn't a thing to think about), thus you actually see a compilation of ILs (Individial Level) combined into one video. We didn't split the speedrun to Solo, Duo or Coop category and did let a changeable count of players to run each map. - Time: To measure start and end time of each level, it was decided to use server's time. To measure time, we used RTA rules: map's timer starts after finish of the loading screen and stops after begin of the loading screen, also there's one additional condition for the timer to stop: when Nihilanth's HP drops to zero (RTA rule). Time of a segment is measured only by the host of the server. We decided to use server's time since the game depends on your FPS and there may be frame drops which may led to inaccurate measure, also, if you'll try to measure time of each map in this video it will show absurd results since we used server-side time instead of measuring video footage of the game, the last thing to note: trying to measure time of recorded demos will also led to different time results. - Rules: Some of the rules were taken from the RTA community of the game (www.speedrun.com/sven_coop?h=Half-Life-3_Players&rules=game&x=7kj3v4g2-ylpm906l.0135ngyq): 1) The run begins at the map hl_c01_a1. 2) Respawn delay, 20-200framerate changes/tickrate, + survival mode, sv_lan and other QoL commands are allowed (mp_respawndelay, toggle_survival_mode, fps_max, cl_showstats, etc...). 3) rcon commands are allowed (dedicated server). 4) Removing/changing motd.txt is allowed. 5) Making soundcache read-only is allowed. Also, RTA rules allow to use old version of the map hl_c13_a4, since in the version 5.13 (from 18th of July 2017) was fixed portal skip. Since this rule is very questionable, we didn't use it. - Extra rules: 1) Allowed to change FPS beyond 200 limit. 2) Allowed use of fake clients when it's suitable. For example, to finish Nihilanth's chamber, it was decided to use fake clients, since it's very hard to run a segment with 28+ players. 3) To simulate freeze of the game, stop the network channel from transmitting data to a server. 4) Since RTA rules allow use of Dedicated Servers to let the host freeze as clients do, we also "run" that Dedicated Server only formal. 5) Any count of players can run a map: from 1 player to 32 players. - Tricks: Comparing with original Half-Life 1, the game has several fundamental changes, such as newly added or patched bugs (tricks): Tricks/features that were patched/broken/removed/partially patched in Sven Co-op: 1) Saves (doesn't work) 2) Object Boosting (patched) 3) Wallbug (broken or patched in 5.23, most likely caused by replacing procedural PlayerMove functions with a single class) 4) Tertiary Attack Glitch (patched in 5.24, was not in original Half-Life) 5) Brute Launching (patched for trip mines mostly likely since release, patched for snarks in 5.24 due to removal of their solidity) 6) Fastfire, Quickgauss, Items Duplication (saves doesn't work) 7) Infinite Health Door (fixed in HL1 campaign) 8) Snark Climbing (most likely patched since release) 9) Worldspawn Skip (hard to replicate, mostly won't work with worldspawn, only with spawned entities) Tricks/features that were used in the speedrun: 1) Bunnyhopping, Strafing (Original Half-Life) 2) Edgebug, Jumpbug, Slidebug (Original Half-Life) 3) Ducktap (Original Half-Life) 4) Gauss Boosting, Selfgauss, Wallgauss (Original Half-Life) 5) Collision Boosting (Original Half-Life) 6) Damage Boosting (Original Half-Life. Boost speed from explosions was screwed up in 5.23) 7) Ladderspeeding (Original Half-Life) 8) Wallstrafing (Original Half-Life) 9) Water Boosting (Original Half-Life) 9) NPC Abuse (Original Half-Life. ConCommand npc_moveto made it easier to do the trick) 10) Sinking (Sven Co-op unique. The player's body sinks through the world / entities when the player died in the crouch state under an obstacle / ceil) 11) Selfsinking (Sven Co-op unique. Same as sinking but the player uses CTRL to sink their body without use of any obstacles / ceil. Pretty hard to perform since the player in the crouch state must die 2 units before they touch the ground) 12) Freeze Abuse (Sven Co-op unique. Use the key combination [Alt+Space] to freeze the game (with Windowed mode enabled) in various situations: to revive / crowbar boost, to freeze in the air to let players stand on us, to prevent accumulating speed for another player that is Revive Boosting from us) 13) Revive Boost (Sven Co-op unique. Freeze in the revive radius of Players / NPCs / Grenades to accumulate velocity from the push speed) 14) Crowbar Boost (a.k.a Freeze Fling as suggested pidor :D. Sven Co-op unique. Freeze to accumulate speed from the Crowbar / Wrench punches dealen from another player) 15) Spawn Block (probably possible in original Half-Life. Player standing on (or under) a spawn spot of an NPC will block them from being spawned) 16) Wall Clipping (Should be possible in HL Deathmatch. Abuse client command "unstuck" to release from being stuck and get teleported to a free space in the world) 17) Revive Clipping (Sven Co-op unique. Similar to Wall Clipping since game finds a free space to teleport a revived player) 18) Ceil Clipping (Sven Co-op unique. Similar to Revive Clipping but requires player in the crouch state suicide under the ceil) 19) Observer Body-Clipping (Sven Co-op unique, most likely temporary name of the trick. Player with some velocity suicides with use of Selfsinking trick, thus it will save in the DEAD state all velocity. A few moments (or after suicide) before entering OBSERVER mode, the server / host sets FPS to lowest possible which causes the player's body clip further into the world / entity. The more speed you have and the lower FPS you set - further you clip, direction of your velocity is the clip direction of your body, simple relative velocity-FPS formula: ClipDistance = Velocity * 1 / FPS. If someone stands on ground when you're in the DEAD state, then you will start loosing your velocity because of ground friction (How it happens? Currently no clue LOL). Sinking player's body has move flag MOVETYPE_NONE which ignores any walls / entities, thus it allows body to clip like that. When player is entering OBSERVER mode, their dead body is created which still stores player's velocity, then physics simulation runs for the body (move = velocity * framerate) causing it "move" forward, on the next game frame velocity of the body resets to 0 because of TraceHull function which detects the body to be stuck in the world / entity (TraceHull part is the theory only, too lazy to check it, do it on your own). The trick's usefulness for speedruns / skips was found by BotSkipper, explored and explained by Sw1ft) 20) Fast Sinking (Sven Co-op unique. Make lower FPS (i.e. fps_max 20) to sink faster) 21) Fast Medkit / Fast Revive (Sven Co-op unique. Holding right mouse button near a revivable target and switching from the medkit to any weapon makes the medkit remember the revive charge. Switching back to the medkit and holding right mouse button near a revivable target revives it) 22) Player Push (Sven Co-op unique. If player is standing in another player (the most common way, there's also a second one), they will both be pushed in the opposite direction) If you have any questions about tricks, you can probably ask about them on the Sven Co-op Speedrunning Discord server: discord.gg/3Trxxsz
