Half Life was never the same for me after they changed this for the steam version. That Sierra intro was like the door to the future, and the Valve faucet guy, so uncanny and intriguing... It did put me in the perfect mindset. Wish it was brought back.

It really is too bad they changed it. I wonder, is there any way to bring back the old intro?

With emulation and projects like eXodos people coming in after the fact can enjoy these games and experiences without needing to mess with antique hardware. How about we lift up up and coming gamers instead at best feel sorry for them and stoke their FOMO, or at worst belittle them as "lessor" because of the games they play or have today? @asdfjklo2343 жыл бұрын
@@Bauglir100 Oh, okay, that's why I said "maybe". I guess Half-Life put it all together in a way that blew people away, while Strive can claim the title for first story-driven FPS and a couple of mechanics in volved with that, and Valve then added several other innovations leading to a watershed moment in gaming. I mean, few are talking about Wolfenstein 3D either and more about Doom for some reason, and to me again, Quake was the first "real" 3D FPS - though with no real story (maybe a few shattered incongruent elements of Lovecraft, medieval and sci-fi), and that is the difference between id and Valve.

Had Valve lost and Siearra (Than just a brand name within Vivendi Universal Games at that point) won the court settlement over the ownership of the Half-Life IP. I would imagine the outcome of the publisher releasing a bunch of mixed to low-quality rushed out games. The series could've suffered the same fate as the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro series.

@@wavsnackssss Valve would not have been able to make the game if they weren't given funding and support by Sierra. Sierra owned the Half-Life rights until 2000 when a new CEO sold them to Half-Life stupidly. Valve went to over a dozen studios to pitch the game and Sierra was the only one interested as all the other established companies felt Half-Life was too risky. Half-Life was supposed to be released in late 1997 and when it missed its deadline, Sierra's CEO personally stepped in and said it would not be cancelled, saving the project.
