Thanks Coach for this video. Really helps me understand Palms and Quarters better since our team does not run it.

Your coverages must protect each other. We play mostly palms so we are inside 2 most of the time. We may be a little susceptible to the slant by 2 in quarters but we have better perimeter run support and more flat help. All coverages have weaknesses that's why you try and compliment them

Scout cards say 3 step or 5 step, probably 3-4 route concepts a day

Been a fan for over 10 years! Regarding DS rules in Palms, "#2 doesn't cross my face..." what scenario exactly are you referring to? Slants? Thanks!
@CoachMac Жыл бұрын
You could look at it that way, but more in terms of no easy inside releases unless they are real shallow. It helps the safety behind you determine how he needs to play the coverage

We had to make an adjustment at my new school due to personnel. I prefer left and right.

Coach with the SS aligned 2yds off the #2 receiver and with your safety back and the Mike in the box are you really comfortable with giving up the slant out of the #2 receiver? I always want to deny the inside. I love the alignment against perimeter runs and quick screen game. Just wanted your opinion Coach.

Coach , Tremendous instruction, as usual. In your earlier Quarters Coverage tutorial you mentioned you kept your W/SS as just Left Down Safety/Right Down Safety. In this video you mentioned you wouldn't work your W as the outside #2 player (SS) in quarters. In your experience, is it more beneficial to teach the down safeties a SIDE then choose if that guy is more of an W/SS , or teach that guy a specific W/SS?

Hey Coach, I've been looking at your videos for a few years now and have learned a lot. We always read cover 2. Can I share with you what we do? It seems like you have to explain a lot with your 2 variations of the coverage. You have a lot more experience than I do. Maybe I'm overlooking something that you see as obvious that creates the need to have 2 different coverages. Maybe you just like 2 variations to keep the offense guessing. Also, you didn't mention any type of cover 3 in this video. Do you not use it very often?

Hey Coach Mac. Great stuff... anything special vs. Dbls Speed Option into the boundary? Thanks!

Coach Mac, question concerning Palms. How involved are your high safeties in the run game vs spread formations? Is their focus primarily on pass being that they are displaced? Thanks
@gkarafant9 жыл бұрын
Thanks , last question .. do you build in a trips coverage to your defensive call every play. Would you suggest going Read side call/Away side Call/ Trips Call. ex 2/4/X out?
@gkarafant9 жыл бұрын
Gotcha, ... any thoughts on resources for information on specific CB technique in palms/quarters. You mentioned some things , but I'm just looking for more in depth . I've seen some stuff on CB technique in Robber, is this virtually identical to CB technique in quarters? Thanks

Greg, I would love to hear what you guys do. We do not play a lot of cover 3 at all.
@mountaintimezone9 жыл бұрын
Coach, do you have practice video of any of these half-line drills? Trying to do a very simple Read 2 concept with eight-grade kids, not a lot of experience or practice time since we only get them at the beginning of school their eighth-grade year. I'm mostly concerned with teaching pass coverage.

Hey Coach, So when you tell your Will backer, 2 doesn't cross my face and 3 doesn't outleverage me, is he going to try to stop #2 from running even like a 1-2 yard drag shallow inside or is he going to let that go? Also, when we do this, we tell the corner and Safety to switch only if #2 is out immediately, meaning Arrow/Bubble routes. If #1 ran a fade and #2 ran a 4-5 yard out, would you tell the Will to be basically inside and under #2 to the flat so that he could help the Safety? Thanks for your input.
@CoachMacАй бұрын
If 2 is that shallow it is an under call. We only play 2 out at a depth under the Sam LB and the corner doesn’t trigger until ball brings him down
@kylebrown2976Ай бұрын
@@CoachMac That makes sense, so if #2 was running an under and the RB was going away or just blocking, would you just have the will try to get under a curl type route from #1?
@kylebrown2976Ай бұрын
@@CoachMac And what do you tell the Will to do on out routes of various depths by #2, especially when the RB is going away or staying in to block?
@CoachMacАй бұрын
@@kylebrown2976 Yes, drop tight to 2 with no push of #3. If 2 is shallow or vertical then we can expand to #1
@kylebrown2976Ай бұрын
@@CoachMac Thanks coach, it all makes sense. Just wanted to make sure that I was understanding it the correct way.

About how many route concepts do you run and how do. U tell. Your kids a 3 step Vs a 5 is it based off the route concept or is it always 3 or always 5

Is it ok to have the corner press while still playing 2 read?

Coach Mac, love your posts. Question, when playing Palms vs 2x2 spread, how do you handle motion from str to wk to build trips to the "weak side" of the coverage strength?
@CoachMac8 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting topic. Two things we will debate is moving the FS with the motion and making a new trips check like Mix or Roll. Or we slide the FS inside and play stress where we stay palms to the weakside and the FS poaches #3 vertical. If we do that we have to play man to the single. Handling motions is always an issue.
@mdyanez028 жыл бұрын
+Thomas MacPherson I appreciate you saying that because I've been banging my head against the wall trying to figure out the easiest way for high school kids to adjust and still be sound.
@mdyanez028 жыл бұрын
+Thomas MacPherson Do you think, that with Palms being a potential balanced coverage across the field, and both corners and safeties must learn to play the coverage, that everyone could stay on their respective sides and make motion adjustments easier? Basically saying either corner could read #2 or playing man to the single, and either high safety could read #2 or poach #3? What do you or don't you like about that?
@CoachMac8 жыл бұрын
In palms it's ok but in other sets you will want certain guys playing certain spots at least with your safeties. Corners can stay on each side. We have in the past played left and right safeties and only moved the FS.
@mdyanez028 жыл бұрын
+Thomas MacPherson Can't promise you this will be the last question. How do you treat formation into the boundary vs Palms? Trips or Trey specifically.. or even 2x2 with the RB into the boundary

Do you read the release (outside/Inside) of #1 if #2 goes to the Corner within his shuffle?
@CoachMac8 жыл бұрын
Does who read what release? Sorry I'm a bit confused
@Coachwhite208 жыл бұрын
We were getting ate up with digs by #1 just wondering what your taught your safety to slow him down.
@CoachMac8 жыл бұрын
We need underneath help on dig or a coverage mix up if that's the issue. Vertical of 1 is biggest concern so I don't want safety slowed down too mucjh
