The reason they are called "HALF LINK" is because thats exactly what they are. A "FULL LINK" consists of 1 inner and 1 outer link. It requires 2 half links to get the same length of 1 full link

i always seemed to snap half links. im a big guy and when i snapped a chain it would always throw me face first into the ground. my buddy gave me this full link and ive had this one for 3 years. i wish i knew what chain it was

So in riding performance there's no difference? I thought it would feel heavier when you pedal a half link chain. I ride single speed btw.

My buddy has a half link on his fit 20" bmx , and thats one of the smoothest bikes I've ridden in all my 40 years ! The bike is still light too .💪

In my eyes the main advantage of a half link chain is that it can be made the correct lenth. Full link chains are always going to be either to tight or too slack when u first put them on.
@BMXNEWSCHANNEL
@BMXNEWSCHANNEL 7 жыл бұрын
+Matthew Abt Yes you are right. That's the only advantage actually and what they were designed for. Some companies will call them an "interlock" chain which makes more sense than "half link".

so hey thanks for the explanation, although if I bottom out my rear rim there's to much slack on a regular chain link but not enough to remove one link to make it tight, so what your saying is it won't make a difference with a half link? I'm also running. 9t 25t
@BMXNEWSCHANNEL
@BMXNEWSCHANNEL 7 жыл бұрын
+J. D. The thing with regular chain is you can not remove 1 link. You have to remove 2 links so the chain goes together. You only have to remove 1 link on a half link. Half link is for more micro sizing.

A half link will do the trick to slam your wheel forward 💪

do the half link chains fit any bike I have an eastern and my chain just broke so idk
@BMXNEWSCHANNEL
@BMXNEWSCHANNEL 8 жыл бұрын
Yes it will fit your bike. There are 2 main sizes. 3/32s, which is mostly on bikes with gears, 1/8s which is generally found on BMX bikes. Half links do not have a master link so the pin has to be pressed in. watch our "Chain Breaker Trick" Video to see how to install it.

Can a half link chain work on narrow wide chainring?
@DelfinuNegru
@DelfinuNegru 7 жыл бұрын
the only bad part when riding a half link chain is that it wears out your sprocket pretty fast,i mean unless you don't break the full link too often you should't change it .

If I want to slam my wheel and with a regular chain it's just short of connecting up. A Half link will help, right?

Why does a half link cost almost double a normal chain?
@BMXNEWSCHANNEL
@BMXNEWSCHANNEL 8 жыл бұрын
Half links take longer to manufacture. There is extra steps to make the chain when you have bends In each link... unfortunatley they will always be more expensive than a regular chain because they take longer to make.

Half link chains suck. The design is inherently weak as the half link plates are always trying to straighten the bends. As the plates stretch, the links get drastically longer and they consume your drivetrain rapidly. I’ve used the shadow supreme and and also a cheap Stolen half link(I believe), and they’re all equally as bad. In two years I’ve worn out like five front sprockets and five profile mini cassette drivers. One more thing is they seem to not deal with dirt,sand well at all. Immediate crunching sounds that I never experienced on a standard chain. Don’t waste your time/money unless you only ride in parks/ramps where power delivery is not that important

i was just about to post this. i totally agree. im not a rough or a big rider but I snap new shadow chains every 3-4 months. They are as you said BAD BY DESIGN causing metal fatigue. They are good for smashing on curbs due to there thickness, but not for constant pedaling. street, track, etc

@BMXNEWSCHANNEL

+thebowhunter888 Half link chains are generally heavier than traditional chains. They use thicker side plates and pin sleeves to make them as strong as traditional chains.

can the half link sustain more weight than just the normal one?
@BMXNEWSCHANNEL
@BMXNEWSCHANNEL 8 жыл бұрын
+Im Soo Ghostly in My eyes they should be about the same. Maybe a little more here or there.... But in reality they should be similar in strength and determined on the manufacture process or material used.

im sorry to bash you but it actually is half of a full link. A full link consist of the outer plates and inner with the chain pin. the half link completely eliminates the inner plates making it a half link.... but great video thumbs from me
@BMXNEWSCHANNEL
@BMXNEWSCHANNEL 7 жыл бұрын
+Bmxtube the only reason why it makes the out and inner link is because of the over lap. It's not actually half a link because it uses the same amount of material and the same number of plates per link. I counted them both out to proove this
