Loved this easy to understand explanation, video and drone footage! Can't wait to try. Thank you Amelia for de-mystifying dressage movements. I feel ready for half pass now, were as before I felt a little unconfident to even try for fear of getting in a muddle ! 🤪

First of all, great video, great explanation of the basics that are needed to be ready for half pass, but second of all, wow, because I saw nothing but a relaxed, happy and supple horse. What a dream, and it shows you're a great trainer!

Love the addition of the drone footage. You are by far the best dressage teacher online at explaining the aids clearly. Thank you for posting these videos for us to learn from! I want to share also a visual I learned from Your Riding Success that helped me a lot with seat position, and that is sitting to the inside curve of the “banana” where the banana is the bend of the horse. For those who are visual learners :)

Thanks so much for this very clear and easy to understand explanation of this half pass! The demonstrations make all the difference to see how I can do it ! Your videos are priceless in my riding journey! Also my trainer just (unexpectedly and in a week) died of covid so not only am I devastated, but now u are my best hope for progress in riding.

So lovely filmed. Can you maybe write in the information field under the video where you have already described aids for halfpass what you change in your aids to ride the shoulder in. I can tell you keep you keep your outside leg back so is it only the position of the shoulder? And what about the inside leg is it more active in the shoulder in?

what I'm confused about is whether I should be approaching to ride a half-pass from a shoulder-in or the haunches-in. You said in the beginning that a half-pass is a haunches-in ridden on a diagonal and even in Germany we call it the "Traversale", from Travers. Yet towards the end you recommend riding a few steps of shoulder-in and then half-pass from that position, so I'm confused again. Which one should I concentrate on in order to ride them the most correctly? My trainer also makes me ride them starting with the shoulder-in, but it doesn't make sense to me aside from the similarity in the contact between a half-pass and a shoulder-in.
@AmeliaNewcombDressage Жыл бұрын
In the beginning of the video, I am encouraging people to use shoulder-in and haunches-in to supple your horse to prepare for the half pass. In both shoulder-in and haunches-in, the bend in the body is the same and the horse is moving on three tracks. If your trainer is telling you to start from shoulder in, it could be that your horse is too supple behind or you are overbending the body and leading with the haunches, so he or she is asking you to think about the shoulders. This is the way I learned and it makes sense to me, but I know people who start from shoulder in and send the horse over from there also.
