Your craftsmanship is impressive. I respect that most folks would want a small block to replace the inline six. For me I'd love to have the good old inline along with all its quirks and limitations.

The charm of an old vehicle, for me anyway, is the way they drive, not just the looks or how fast they are, it's like a time warp to a better time. Not that fast is a bad thing... Not that it matters to anyone, I like what you're doing with this truck.

There's no problem with talking to yourself. As you get older you'll find your even able to understand what you're saying. Just as long as you don't start mumbling to yourself. Talking to yourself is no big deal. Its when you have a full-on argument with yourself, you may want to worry. On cutting out that original transmission cross member, I'd probably put something back in that vincinity. I've seen cab mounts sag and even rear perch of front spring twist, with that cross member removed. But great build! Nice and simple, to the basics!

If you're keeping the HEI for the 350, be sure to feed it with heavy guage wire like 10/12 at least. I swapped a 6 outta my 74 gmc Shorty van for a new 350 and reused the original distributor switched power. They work great until you try to drive from Wpg to Vancouver... Made it almost to Calgary before the ignition capped itself. The brand new plugs had completely carboned right over. Couldn't even see tips. Took me a while to diagnose but it turns out HEI's are pretty hungry haha! If I hadn't gone on a road trip I probably wouldn't have noticed for quite a while because it ran so well even being starved. Anyhoo, love your channel. I discovered it accidentally a few weeks ago and after binge watching a bunch of it I nearly jumped outta my seat when I saw a local license plate. Excellent content, hope to see out in the wild one day haha! Cheers!
@HalfassKustoms4 жыл бұрын
yeah I actually ran a relay to feed the power to it after you mentioned it just to be safe.

HEI is straight 12 volt, the original ignition supply wires are sometimes fusible link type with firewall resistors to step down to 9 I think. I burned up a few coils in autoshop learning this on my 1970 Monte Carlo SS HEI swap

Some of the older chevy v8's had the bolt holes in the front and I scabbed up some mounts to fit that front mount. I liked the room it gave for the exhaust... I even did it on a 348 block... whats puzzling me is a 58 with a old school 235 in it. I know the still made the 235's in 58 but the engine on the back was same as v8's and the 230-292 six cylinder ones. I think thats the same as early fifties that you pulled meaning that you couldn't use that bellhousing but any newer one with the clutch fork and then three speed which most of us prefered but those old school trans' didn't have a motor mount provision on them did they?? I am all screwed up... nice to have something I could wire up and me on drugs/LOL
