Fantastic video, going to buy a replacement shell now for my DC. I bought it second hand the case is so yellow its horrible. Thought i could live with it but every time i play it. It drives me mad, the DC deserves respect. Time to make it beautiful again.

I just picked up an old dinged-up Dreamcast and was worried about how tricky it would be to take it apart and clean it up (seeing the word "soldering" in the video description gave me a slight panic attack), but this looks extremely easy and straightforward. Hoping to pick up a shell in the near future and take the opportunity to clean out any dust in the guts. Thanks for the instructions!

Thanks for the feedback, glad you found the video helpful! It’s a pretty painless process other than the modem shell, which is super annoying, but overall a nice little project.

The hardest part of this shell, completely serious, is getting that modem into the new shell casing. Holy hell it took me 15 minutes!

I completely agree, it was infuriating!

I have just took delivery of a new shell, but out of 8 screws holding the motherboard in place don’t have a thread on top of them. So I’m unable to unscrew them lol. I have a 2nd PAL DC that I’m going to do a case swap on, hopefully that doesn’t also have these weird screws. The frustrating thing is that the DC that I was going to do the shell swap on has had a couple of mods and a GDemu in it.

I believe you are supposed to have the disc door open to lessen the chance of damaging the door switch in the back

is it easy to change the dreamcast shell if the console has been modded? as in Dreamcast HDMI,GDEMU it replaces the disc drive for sd cards) ,ive seen modded dreamcasts online but i don’t like the yellow stained original shell 😂 so i was going to buy a modded console and fit my own shell
@HalfCircleForward2 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question! Yes, you shouldn’t have any issues at all since most of the mods are drop in and don’t require any physical modifications to the shell itself. The only thing you may need to tweak is area for the HDMI port if the system has an HDMI mod in it, and possibly the power cable port if you’re running the PICO mod. Other than that, it should be pretty straight forward. Hope that helps!

Just a quick question...has anyone tried to use the top part of the original shell and the bottom part of the 3rd party shell or vica versa. I mean, does the 3rd party shell parts fit to the original?
@HalfCircleForward Жыл бұрын
That’s a great question! While I’ve not tried it myself, the 3rd party shell halves should be interchangeable with the original OEM shells, they’re pretty accurate recreations of the originals. Hope that helps, and apologies for the delayed response!
