NIcely done. In fact, Well done. From what I gathered, Deuce, Grimes and Mitch are the only Knicks with any level of consistent defensive IQ. Then RJ is a little less so, Then Randle and Obi have almost nil. This was a bit of an eye opener on Obi, but Cam? Wow. Yeah, I have to agree, I can see why he is on the block.

Reddish? And they was winning with toppin before he got injured fym
@talktozay2 жыл бұрын
If you watched the games, you'd know that Reddish was consistently one of the team's best defenders before his injury. A lot of the gaffes he made in the video were reflective as the Knicks' defense as a whole, not necessarily Reddish individually.
@ParthPatel-zy4pg2 жыл бұрын
Reddish a good individual defender but clearly not a great tam defender. Also Brunson is culpable too
@mgtow-balance34092 жыл бұрын
as was said already, great breakdown man. it's about damn time the knicks fixed that defense. last year top 3 in defense giving up 106ppg; this year dropped to like 24th giving up 114ppg. but after this little win streak, they're now in 12th place giving up 111ppg. that's a HUGE jump
@anthonyriche5522 жыл бұрын
Great breakdown. You spotted a lot of things I've noticed as well. One thing the Knicks seem to do is ball watch time and time again. You'll have 5 guys watching the ball allowing for backdoor cuts or getting beaten to the rim on rebounds. They're also quick to help because their primary defense can't stop anyone except for Grimes and McBride. This causes a breakdown which leads to easy passes to the open man. They have to do better on their one-on-one matchups. Hate to say it but one of the worse offenders is Brunson- but then we knew that about him coming in.
@aubreywallace79182 жыл бұрын
Ill say it we one small foward short an no OBT he opens up the floor we get better shots i still not worried thìs Learning-Curve is wat it is hope they fix it wasted a gem by IQ an RJ-40.
@ricardoquinones51142 жыл бұрын
Really appreciate this and that the Knicks has started to play better defense since I always felt their defense sucked, specially Fournier and Randle. Stuff that I was taught on defense. 1on1 defense: always try to force your player to make a spin move or turn the back to you. Team defense: always be on the lookout to double the spin move. In transition our goal was always try to stop the ball below the 3 pt line and free throw. Once everybody was on the same mindset everything became easier. My goal on defense was always to make sure my player received the the ball when I helped and recover since I trusted that I could keep up with him. If the player was standing behind the 3pt line and ready to shoot I would almost always fake jump and prevent him from driving left. 8 out 10 times players will drive left if they are right handed. Regarding Toppin, his problem is that he is very "bouncy" because of his jumping ability. This transits to his defense to also by bouncy and he anticipates the wrong things. Regarding over helping. Some players are doing this out of pure lazyness, thinking "I help now so I don't have to actually help and recover later" This is bad assessment to the players holding the ball, his passing ability and also not respecting the player that you are guarding.
@buzzerbeater33502 жыл бұрын
Did you prevent him from driving left or did you force him to go left? Yes, the Knicks were grossly over helping mainly because Meech was out. That strategy did not work. As far as Toppin is concerned he was leaking out when he should have committed to his man.
@ricardoquinones51142 жыл бұрын
@@buzzerbeater3350 Hi, I anticipated left so I prevented them from continuing their drive usually at their first step. But as soon as a player recognizes this, they either shoot or go right which is better since their first step to the right is slower than to the left. If the player I'm guarding is an above average shooter a hand in the face and an annoying early boxout was usually the best thing to do.

@pesky192 жыл бұрын
another great breakdown! keep em coming
@justinherbert91462 жыл бұрын
What turned it around was the current 9 man rotation -- starting Grimes - getting Deuce more minutes - Jalen Brunson finding his groove on a new team - after 29 games the team is playing like a team - Julius contributing on rebounds, assists as well as points - barrett defending well and improving after a slow start on his part -- not to many folks clamoring for firing Thibs these days lol
@TheKnicks20122 жыл бұрын
Really does show that sometimes it’s not even about schemes or general coverage but simply player effort and awareness. Thibs has no control over how Randle ignores a switch or back door. He still does have his issues but majority of the poor defense comes form low effort and awareness.

We drafted Obi, a player whose scouting report said he had a limited ceiling because of his age, had an inconsistent shot, didn't rebound well, didn't play defense, but was very athletic. All that did was cost us a PG that may start for the East in the Allstar game this year in Tyrese Halliburton. Way to go Leon.
@ryanrecher65422 жыл бұрын
I’ve been telling everyone forever now, the Knicks drafting set the team back a decade . Frank over Mitchell?? Knox over Shai, Simons, both Bridges, Obi over Haliburton, IQ over Bane. ALL BAD.

Not botch damn near everyone like the Knicks and also not even draft players with value in only a couple years . Don’t even start, sound like a typical loser knicks fan always finding excuses. Other teams that passed on these guys still got better plays than Kevin Knox, Frank, Obi. Cut it out

Mitchell Robinson, I feel, is pretty much an athleticism and size based defender. I don’t really think he has the best instincts or reads. He is quick to block and, with his length he does get a lot of them, but he falls for pump fakes and just takes the bait way too often.
