How To Fix 'UNABLE TO CHECK FOR UPDATE Error' on iOS 16 / iOS 16.1

My problem started when I deleted the beta profile to go back to the normal release track. I have read suggestions on this that you have to restore or reinstall the beta profile. I am 100% sure I just deleted the beta profile last year to get back to normal releases, so I am not sure what is happening this year round. I rather stay on beta than restore my phone. Edit: I am assuming that in my case I have to wait for the next upgrade that is official and higher than the current beta to get the next normal update.

@@dontevennnnn it did work like this last year, so I am pretty sure it will work this time around as well. It may take a few releases to catch up though. Do not do as I did: i reinstalled the beta profile and updated, then deleted the beta profile again. It did not solve the problem, and now I have to wait even longer to get the normal update.

Literally same as me, I deleted the beta profile as iOS 16.02 didn’t show up, thought that would fix the issue, but I’m stuck on iOS 16.1 with this error now - tempted to reinstall the beta profile but unsure if there’s any point

@@jackdeeacoustic exactly! I did reinstall the beta profile. It is a bad idea. It will keep you stay in beta for longer before a proper update comes. It installed 16.1 on my phone. So now i have to wait for regular 16.2 or something. if you are on 16.0.x you probably will have to wait for 16.1 that should be right around the corner.

I have solved it. I connected my iPhone to my Mac. Then I clicked on „check for update“ on my Mac. After that the error on my iPhone has disappeared.

This is happening when you remove beta profile after updating to newer software than RC. I suppose you should wait for RC version if you don’t want to reinstall beta profile again…

So here’s the real fix for this!!!! If you installed a beta profile you need to delete it and factory reset your phone to clear out the profile and set up the iPhone as a new phone. Setting it up from a backup will just install the profile again. Or you need to reinstall the beta profile and then it will allow you to update. The issue comes from when you delete the profile and don’t completely wipe it and try to update. I reinstalled the beta and no issues. Hopefully this finally gives y’all and answer

i found a solution, reset your home screen and reset your settings it might need setup but yeah, also delete the beta profile if you have one.

well, I think another option is to wait for the next update like 16. Two a connect to your Mac to update. Since now it doesn't affect daily use.

Ok I'm having the same issue after updating to the Apple Beta 2, I tried removing the profile and keep seeing the 'Unable to Check for Update' pop up when trying to go back to 16.0.2. Am I right in saying, keep the profile deleted/removed, and when Apple release 16.1.01 the phone will update to normal iOS? Or will I just keep the profile on, but then I would presume this keeps me in the beta testing queue which I don't want? And I completely forgot to do a main back up of my file :( - I know I know!

@@Lee-zg3gx you want public official release track again? Remove the beta profile if you haven’t already done so. Then wait for a release that is higher in version than the one you have now is released. The official/public one.
