FINALLY something different!! It's been frustrating seeing SWAC bands do the same thing over and over again. Glad someone decided to take a risk.

I'm a TSU alum and the opening was an element of surprise. Putting it all together makes sense. The Ocean was coming to battle SU. So, i think the military style entrance was relevant and the song was appropriate. I think it was another way to differentiate himself from his SU roots. I think Brian is a genius and his music selextions since hes been at TSU has been diverse and I LUV it!

There are a bunch of liars or deliberately ignorant comments regarding the opening of this field show. Texas A&M is NOT the only band that used these formations. Literally OSU did a similar pattern: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4uXc6ONhMt2oJIsi=FzckgLTwGKM2fHjw (3:08) Btw: OSU, Michigan, Texas A&M and other Corp style bands have done the similar shows. Kudos to TxSU for thinking outside of the box. Shame on the haters for purposely lying and saying TxSU is copying Texas A&M when they aren’t the owners of Corp style patterns…because ALL bands (show style and Corp) are modeled after Military marching commands.

This is the best drill I have ever seen a HBCU marching band do in my life! Way to go, Texas! I am a Southern fan, and I can honestly say Texas Southern gave them the business. However, I do feel Texas Southern has way too much auxiliary. I counted 17 ladies on the dance line 3 majorettes, and however many flags girls. If Texas Southern was to use only the dance line and one majorette and allow the dance line to utilize the flags as well as be featured in a dance. It will clean up the look on the field and in the stands. Nonetheless, I still stand by what I believe and that is, this is the best drill I’ve ever seen at HBCU marching band do and all of my 43 years of living.. Congratulations Texas, you now where the crown and reign supreme for the marching band who drills the best on the field.

I've never seen them enter field like that before so that was pretty interesting. The drills were fantastic and the dance team was awesome. This was different and it was excellent and unique. I see people keep saying that they copied Texas A&M style but, their are so many other PWI marching band that have that same military style drill however, this was the very FIRST for an HBCU marching band to have mastered this skill, it may not have been 100% neat but it goes to show how the ocean have become so diversified in their field show performances. It was getting very tiresome seeing these swac bands doing the same tired diamond shape rhombus formations, kudos to the ocean to manifest something that NO other HBCU marching band have or will achieve for a opening field show. Great Job

The band before Prof Butler 1930s-1960s did mostly all military drills. But going beyond step 2 shouldn't be so rare in the swac. @@carmenjames7807 Sample? There's a huge difference between creating and plagiarism. When you plagiarize some other band's art, the courteous thing to do is give credits. I say this for those who think that Brian was being so genius and creative with this drill when all he did was an imitation of another band. He's developing a reputation as a drill thief as well as a Jukebox marching style thief. Demand change before its too late and you are another imitation band like Jackson State.
