The Story Behind "Rumours" by Timex Social Club (1/6)

"Rumors" is a 1986 song by San Francisco Bay Area-based music group Timex Social Club. It was a hit in the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, reaching No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 13 in the UK, in addition to topping the US R&B and dance charts.
King starting the independent record label JAY Records to release the Timex Social Club hit ‘Rumors’ and ushered in the biggest selling single of 1986 (3.5 million copies) and becoming the #1 R&B single on the Billboard Charts. With a Top 10 single on the Billboard Pop charts for over 56 weeks, King watched his life change as his music became an unprecedented hit. What he’d produced was history-making, as nobody had before taken an R&B song from an indie label to such heights.

Yes. Two guys in the original Club Nouveau were Denny and Thomas who formed En Vogue and produced Tony Toni Toné.

Jay King is very solid However, I have seen countless interviews where he talks about a situation with a Warner exec. And to be honest, it didn’t sound like a man who wasn’t influenced by a drug. Cause see one of the most potent drug in that game is too much fame and too much recognition and he felt like he wasn’t getting enough. Love his work and what he contributed.

There's a different side to this song and Timex Social Club, should we only take Jay's side? I'm a big fan of Club Nouveau and I knew he was involved with "Rumors", but there is a supposedly dirty side to thi$ al$o. Who$e $ide to believe? I don't know. Get Timex Social Club's perspective on this!

One of my rules is to not take sides but be an objective listener. Jay gave his version of what occurred but it was a small part of the entire interview which focused on his journey. I've had both Timmy Gatling and Damion Hall give various accounts to their journey with Guy, I learnt then to be an objective listener 😁

Jay's a talented dude and I don't want to seem I'm siding w/ the TSC brothers...none of us will probably know the true story and like a marriage and divorce it's likely not 100%/0%! Even back in those days politics were involved in music with these stupid labels trying to play gate-keepers instead of just support the music for what it is. 14:32 A-HA!!!! I knew it must have been a legality as why the album version and the newer remixes were based on a re-recorded version. I do remember reading about some scandal concerning the band and producer shortly before "Jealousy" and the new version of "Rumors" came out. Oh so "Tina" is Tina Turner.
