I grew up just across the street from the harbor in El Granada. In those days there was just a scattering of boats throughout the harbor. The breakwater was hardly traversable, you could easily fall into a hole between the rocks, even from the top part of the breakwater. If you had a drop line you could fish strait down a hole and catch nice size rock fish and crabs. I was told once that in the early days 1950’s and before, the fishermen just had to go out into the bay and catch limit fish all day. Unless it was bigger boat They didn’t need to venture out very far. Then came the gill netters. I think they ruined most of the minor reefs around the bay. In the 1980’s it seemed like many fishermen were not catching allot of fish. When gill netting was banned, the ones that scrap bottom that is, the worst. Some of the fishery came back, with the help of regulations. Even with these added benefits, The odds are against a full recovery. There must be about 20 times more boats in the harbor now. And boat gear, technology, plus kayaks, are ever increasing, along with the zeal of a fad. You will never see it the way it was when I was there. You are used to the way it is now. But you should at least know about, what it was like there, in a different time.

Thanks for the history. I agree with you that there was lots of fish 30 years ago. So many people are fishing today.

I forgot. Lol. I just want to hide my face and don't talk because people are sick of hearing my annoying voices seeing my face.
