Great video Stevie! Would love to hear what made you fully switch from Logic - welcome to the fam ❤
@Steven_Beddall3 ай бұрын
Hey Dom! Thanks for the comment, it means a lot as I'm a huge fan of yours♥Man, quite a few reasons to switch over! I think the level of customization in Cubase is second to none. After putting some essential macros together and sorting out all the shortcuts and setup I needed (with much guidance from both your YT channel and Chris Selim) I feel like my workflow has really evolved. Cheers man! 🍻

Halion is super powerful, but the small buttons on the interface make it hard to use. Same goes for their other plugins. They really need to update the visibility of their design.

Lots of great sounds, but loading and auditioning presets is a drag. maybe HaLon could implement proxy files or something, like Komplete Kontrol, for instant preview of sounds.

Halion 7's Performance with Cubase: Halion 7 works flawlessly with Cubase, making it a superior choice compared to other plugins and applications like those from Spectrosonics and Arturia & Native Instruments. This is especially relevant because Arturia plugins have resizing issues on 4K screens when used with Cubase, causing visual and usability problems. Halion 7, on the other hand, handles such challenges smoothly within the Cubase environment. Comparison with Other Plugins: In comparing Halion 7 to Omnisphere or Arturia plugins or Native Instruments, the enhanced capabilities of Halion 7, particularly in wavetable synthesis and advanced sound morphing. Halion 7 is on a different level from Omnisphere in these aspects and I am excited to explore its full potential. Preference for Halion 7: Given the technical issues experienced with Arturia plugins (e.g., resizing problems, bugs), I find Halion 7 to be a better fit, especially since it integrates perfectly with Cubase. I appreciate the smooth workflow, avoiding time-consuming troubleshooting that Arturia's bugs might require. In summary, I am enjoying Halion 7's compatibility with Cubase, noting its advanced features in synthesis, and finding it more reliable than other popular plugins particularly for a streamlined and hassle-free experience.

Brilliant video! I can feel the money burning in my pocket! I'm a total Cubase fanboy yet I still haven't upgraded to the Absolute side of things. I think the value for money is great, however, with everything I already own and does similar things, I just can't convince myself to take the leap. I would love to see that granular guitar video tho! I've been eyeballing that expansion for years!

Hey thanks for the comment! I just recently did a video about my favourite cinematic guitar VSTs and I wish I had discovered Granular Guitars before I made that video!! haha. But I definitely think I'll make a vid dedicated to it as I've been having a blast using it recently.

@@Steven_Beddall from the demo's I heard so far it sounds amazing. I own granular symphonies and that is brilliant too.

Cubase still doesn't have basic functions such as midi transform and q flam. Midi information outside the region boundary is still visible when clips are manually shortened or cut using the range selection tool. Cubase doesn't have undo / redo changes for vst INSTRUMENT parameters as a part of the DAW (they had this in cubase 12 but they scrapped it for Cubase 13). Logic Pro has integrated stock and 3rd party midi fx directly on the channel strip. You can record the output of the midi FX directly on the track instead of routing the midi out. In logic pro, any parameter (that can be added as an automation) selected on the channel will show up in the automation lane. To do the same in Cubase you'll have to write enable a track and click on the things that need to be automated for them to show up in the automation lanes. In Logic Pro you can select all the midi and audio regions and match their names to their track in one click. This is a feature built into the software. In Cubase you'll have to make some sort of a macro which combines a PLE Preset and many other settings. In terms of production and quality of Life related features Cubase is lacking in many aspects. However, the sample manager (mediabay) and the plugins that cubase comes with are absolutely amazing. Lets hope these functions are added to Cubase in version 14. In my opinion Cubase is more inclined towards recording, Mixing and mastering related tasks. Logic Pro has adapted more towards the music production side of things based on its current set of features.

Yeah definitely no perfect DAW out there. You can create something similar to Q flam with a logical editor preset but I agree that would be a great update for Cubase 14! Thanks for watching.

Do the faders still jump parameters in Cubase? MK3 does and it’s why these controllers are a waste of money to me. Better off buying a Keystation and saving the extra $130 or so. They are flawless on Live though. Live and Bitwig are the only two DAWs I’ve used where controllers with knobs and faders make sense - aside from 1st party vendor software (Arturia, Native Instruments). And in those DAWs, you get better DAW control from M-Audio Oxygen Pro, anyways (more transport, seek encoder, Drum Repeat, etc.)… along with easier controller mapping to other DAWs.

The 40th anniversary deal gives new customers 50% off but existing customers should get 70% off vouchers. On the anniversary thread on Steinberg forums, there’s lots of people giving their 70% vouchers for free, I was given one for Cubase 13 Pro and it cost me a total of £147.60 inc Uk vat, and one for Absolute 6 which cost me a total of £127.20 inc Uk vat. There’s still people giving the vouchers away, if you want them (or Wavelab or Dorico) I doubt you will see a better deal for a long time

How Halion 7 compares to Uvi Falcon 3?
@Steven_Beddall3 ай бұрын
Never used it
@iTrensharo16 күн бұрын
HALion better for building libraries. You can create and distribute your own VSTSound archives, etc. smaller pool of users to distribute/sell to, however. Falcon requires NDA and tools from UVI to create UFS archives. Both have free players, as well (only sample libraries for UVi, not Synth Expansions). For live sampling: HALion - Falcon doesn’t do that For Single Samples (think Serato, Simpler, Quick Samplerj: Falcon X More and better options for Sample Manipulation, faster and easier workflow. Loads almost instantly. For Synthesis: Falcon. Covers more types of synthesis, and does so quite well. Everything from Subtractive to FM to Wavetable to Drum Synths to Physical modeling and Organ is covered there. The workflow is easier and faster than HALion. I would almost always recommend it over HALion for this use case. I’d only recommend HALion if the person asking were a Cubase user and think they could benefit from the content on the factory library. If you use a DAW like Live Suite, Logic Pro, Reason, etc. then HALion is kind of a waste as it offer little of value vs what you already get in those packages (or could add on for much less and a better UX in the case of Reason - Parsec, Algoritm, Friktion, etc. during sales periods).

it's a GOOD thing u finally woke up to the reality that Logic (and PreSonus Studio One) are NOT able to perform certain intricate Midi manipulations that Cubase has been doing for eons ! It's an epiphany once you realize what is MISSING in the other DAWs. NOTHINNNNG, Not even Omnisphere . . . is going to BEAT HALion at sound synthesis. There is No sound that other synths can produce, that HALion cannot (given its seven Zones = synthesis engines), while the converse is true (thousands of sounds that only HALion can produce but other synths cannot, especially FM sounds from the HALion FM synthesis engine = FMLab; the copycats - - - Ni FM8, Plogue, Arturia DX7, Dexed, etc, cannot even hold a candle to HALion in FM synthesis😁. HALion is a silent BEAST of a synthesizer. Its 686 page manual, bears testimony to the Depth of inexhaustible possibilities BURIED silently behind its [intimidating] user interface.
