My personal favorite are the Ableton and bitwig esque features and workflow improvements that actually make Cubase fun again for production and not just technical like protools. Might have to get a bigger monitor though like an ultra wide cause it's getting cluster phobic but nice work steinberg.
@LuLeBe15 күн бұрын
I wouldn’t get an ultra wide. Personally I need space top to bottom to see all my channels and also the bottom panel. I don’t need to see half an hour of my timeline at once though, so more space left to right isn’t that useful (at least to me). Maybe if you detach the mixer and put it in a separate window off to the side it could be helpful.

Haven't seen Cubase for more than 15 years, but just the start: "changing the channel in any order I want" makes me wonder what other "amazing" features Cubase 14 will have :D.
@ShreddingDragon14 күн бұрын
Agreed. Not sure what's going on at Steinberg, but I just keep wondering how come are these tiny but obvious QoL updates so few and far between? There's lots of small oddities like this. I just can't go back to Cubase, for me it's too limited and strict in how it "must be used". I love Cubase's Padshop and the creativity tools, but that's it.
@lastboxofsparklers14 күн бұрын
The first version of Cubase came out in 1989, some things obviously aren't that easy to just rewrite. I think it's pretty astounding that Steinberg still come up with features that are groundbreaking, look at something like Sibelius (also old framework), completely stuck in time.

From the bottom of my heart: thanks for mentioning the part about hardware inputs not being exclusive to certain routing any more, I didn't see that anywhere else. This alone is like, finally! The range tools and the editing of audio events - That's the last of my Pro Tools envy gone. I've always had Cubase (since Atari ST days) but it took a back seat for years as my work used Pro Tools. What I loved about Pro Tools was the editing of audio on the timeline, the shortcuts and the ease with adjusting ranges and individual clips. When I moved away from working for others, I used Pro Tools for a while but their subscription model did it for me, I really hate subscription models. So I updated Cubase (which I hadn't done for a few releases) and reacquainted myself with it. Mostly I was pleasantly surprised but the range features were clunky and when I used my Pro Tools paradigm of working mostly with audio - even if from a VI - Cubase didn't feel as fast and clean as Pro Tools. But these changes do it for me! I'm gonna see if it makes sense to change around a few key commands to match my Pro Tools muscle memory on selecting etc ranges.

My review or the review... LOL I'm a cubase 13 pro user... Started with it back when SONAR was discontinued by Gibson. So... Track movement... about time! Cakewalk sonar had channel movement for 10 yrs.. Modulator... Pretty cool but how often will you use it? I do mostly music performed by actual musicians or at least real time playing so not sure how much this is needed for me. Sounds like mote ways to take computerized stuff sound more computerized... Drumtrack.. I guess its a quicky way to get a drum track to play to but so a a million other drum plugins. Clip gain... again sonar had full clip gain automation for decade... so again.. about time. Very useful and the first feature so far I would CONSIDER paying for. Range selection. Useful but limited use. Delay Shimmer - nice but already have valhalla Volume - I just use SONALKIS FREEG so don't need it. Media bay - Nice convenience improvements and other cosmetic stuff. Its nice but not really going to help me much... SO OVERALL I WOULD SAY CUBASE GETTING DESPARATE FOR NEW FEATURED SO PEOPLE KEEP SPENDING BUT I SEE NO REAL NEEDS HERE FOR ME. I"LL PASS ON THIS ON UNTIL IT RUNS ITS COURSE AND GETS CHEAPER. PERFROMANCE ENHANCEMENTS IS WHERE IM MUCH MORE INTERESTED IN AND THERTE WERE NOT ANY MENTIONED DAWPROJECT sounds great on paper but will it really work with more complex projects?

DISAPPOINTED! Too many errors and tinkerer mentality. (Videos in the link) I haven’t given up hope for a long time, I’ve been waiting for an integrated step sequencer in Cubase for a long time. Now it’s here! And it doesn’t have undo/redo? Did I miss something? I just turned the Pulse knob, then all my data was deleted and I couldn’t undo it! Other errors and dubious features: In the new drum machine: did some sound design, then worked on something else, closed the drum machine, opened it again…and then undo/redo doesn’t work anymore, so has no effect on the settings I made before (e.g. cutoff) No undo/redo in the step sequencer. If this is really the case, then now is the time for me to say goodbye to Cubase when it comes to beat productions. Still ok for editing. No scaling in the drum machine! The window for decoupling remains just as small and looks ridiculous. No additional commands in the step sequencer when holding down the Cmd / Shift key + clicking/dragging in the individual cells. Here you could have set the velocity, for example, just as it works in the Midi Editor. Too complicated for basic things. Moving tracks to the LEFT does not work in the mixer if you are exactly on the left dividing line (where the hand then appears) and you want to move to the left. The same applies to the right: If you are exactly on the right dividing line where the hand appears, you cannot move the track to the right. Disappearance and reappearance of the new automation elements when switching from pointer to range tool. Unbelievable that this is not noticed immediately. Edit: The new volume plugin: Click+drag does not pull the fader as expected, but the fader moves slowly behind it. (I once made a setting for the normal channel fader so that when you click ABOVE or BELOW the fader, this is exactly what happens as soon as you hold down the left mouse button in that area. But this should NOT happen if you want to drag the fader of the new volume plug-in DIRECTLY up or down). Media Bay deleted and empty. We already know this from the update from C12 to C13. And apparently nothing has been learnt here! Unbelievable. Are Mac users now supposed to search the web again to find out which files they need to delete in the Finder? No information about this? Mixer Overview does not display the area correctly and does not work properly when moving. Plugin names and controls inconsistent in the mixer at certain zoom settings, resulting in the plugin names being cut off again despite a larger zoom setting (although they were already fully visible at a smaller zoom setting). In the new drum machine: You select a pad and then set the Pad FX (e.g. Filter Cutoff), then switch to another pad, and now Cubase automatically switches the focus to BitCrusher and leaves the filter effect focus. Very inconvenient if you want to set the filters for different pads. …to be continued. The whole thing shows (once again) that the Steinberg Cubase developers don’t seem to use Cubase to make music (see new drum machine videos + step sequencer) or do much audio editing. But the main thing is a new shimmer verb - or almost embarrassing, the new ‘next door effect’, or wow, now comes a volume fader that doesn’t work and in my opinion also seems too ‘bloated’. Something as simple as this could have been kept simple. You don’t need a huge Steinberg logo at the bottom, which is simply unsexy in 2024 when you’re working on a Macbook. It’s just such a shame that Steinberg doesn’t manage to bring new tools on board that at least replace the third-party plugins, even if you’ve already bought them because they’re better; but they’re not better, they’re worse. Unfortunately. A real pity. I made videos of all of the bugs in the Steinberg forum: forums.steinberg.net/t/so-many-issues/948771

Hello Chris Nice improvements, the group track still the same? Can I create a group tracks selecting the tracks I want and automatically goes into a bus and folder at the same time? Cubase still separates folder than the group “buss” track? In other softwares you select the tracks, control G, it creates a buss with the selected tracks assigned to it. Biggest change for me was to be able to use the same inputs in the external efx to record. That’s basic and is the main reason I couldn’t use Cubase here at my studio. Now I will reconsider.
