Hall & Oates are a great American pop rock duo who had their biggest success in the 70's-80's. They had a lot of great hits such as "Rich Girl", Kiss On My List", "Private Eyes", "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)", "Maneater", "Out Of Touch", "You Make My Dreams", "Family Man", "Say It Isn't So", "Method Of Modern Love" etc.

The old Abandoned Lunchonette was about a mile from my childhood home. Daryl Hall live not to far. He's the most famous graduate of my high school. Everyone should listen to his solo album Sacred Songs. And the album War Babies is the best thing Hall and Oates ever did in my opinion. Great reaction ladies!

A funny thing is that both Hall and Oates said that the owner of the Abandoned Lunchonette hated that they put his dinner on their album. It's a hilarious story.

I saw Hall & Oates in Vancouver, at the 2011 Pacific National Exhibition, and when they did this song, I lost it, it had been 1 year since my beloved Catherine passed away, we were together for 15 tears, I mean years, and, I couldn't listen to any music for a year, then when, they sang the words, She's Gone, it finally hit me, that she was indeed gone, and I cried. I did my best to hold it in, but, I could feel my face contorting. It still moves me today. 😭

From their first hit in 1974 through their heyday in the '80s, Daryl Hall and John Oates' smooth, catchy take on Philly soul brought them enormous commercial success -- including six number one singles and six platinum albums. Hall & Oates' music was remarkably well constructed and produced; at their best, their songs were filled with strong hooks and melodies incorporating elements of new wave and hard rock. In 1984 Hall and Oates surpassed the Everly Brothers as the most successful duo in rock history. Daryl is a wonderful singer and you can watch him perform with a variety of artists on DARYL'S HOUSE on youtube. I included Todd Rundgren here because he's one of my faves. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqOyiqt8hdR-ia8

I saw Hall and Oates in the 80s. Great concert at the Spectrum in Philly. My seat was behind the stage but John Oates made sure he turned around often during the concert. They met at Temple University. Great blue eyed soul singers! I believe they are the most successful duo in pop music history.

I love Hall & Oates so, so much! This is one group that I have always wanted to see in concert. I was a huge fan in the 80's and still am. When they first came out I remember my parents, aunts & uncles listening to their music, but I was like 7, 8 years old. Then when I turned about 13 and they were still making even better music in the 80's (imho) it made me a devoted fan. Great song and reaction!! Your mom must be about my age. We have the same taste in music. I am 53 btw.

This is from a rare trip by H & O to UK. Recorded on a show called, unusually, Old Grey Whistle Test. It featured all sorts of artists, usually new UK bands or US bands trying to break the UK market. The studio was just basic, sometimes with no audience. The show was broadcast late about 10:30 or 11:00 & presented for much of the run by a guy called Bob Harris who had a quiet sort of voice hence his nickname "Whispering Bob".

Just a little confession about me that I thought you might like ... When I first heard of the group, Hall & Oates, it was at a time when there were a lot of groups coming out, and many of them had crazy names ... names designed to be unique and grab attention like, Spooky Tooth, Little Feat, Asleep At The Wheel, Gentle Giant, etc., so when I heard their name over the radio, I assumed their name was Haulin' Oates. To this day, I still think about it every now and then and have a good laugh ... at my own expense, of course. I know of no one that has ever made the same mistake, or admitted it, but that makes it even funnier to me.

If I could make a suggestion, do a little research into what's known as "The Philly Sound," or Philadelphia Soul. Hall & Oates were hugely influenced by it, and definitely tapped into it. Groups like the Spinners (originally from Detroit, migrated to Philly) were SO creative and made such an impact that resonates to this day. Fun one. I agree with your mom--it makes my heart glad that you love these songs so much. They're just so damn good. They make for such a wonderful soundtrack to my life. Thanks for another great one.

great reaction, also agree it's awesome you enjoy the clothes the music and appreciate the subtle of the overall groups and their contributions to the song, many people today miss the sheer layers to a song from this era, In my opinion if not their best song, before they became 80s commercial which is good, but their early stuff was amazing as was most bands that started in the 70s, the commercial peak may have tapped in the 80s, but the raw music of their 70s catalogue is what is true genius. jeep on it sisters, you are grooving, I'm an 80s child, but your mom had the best era , it irony we don't appreciate it as much at the time, good music always rises to the top, sometimes we take time to catch up, like most things in life. but the music will always live on. great great song and live.
