I don't wanted to scroll through all the comments, but I realized something about the JVM. Every Channel has three different stages and the clean sound was in red mode. If you want to hear how clean it can be...use the green mode, which is stage 1. As far as the HiGain tones...avoid the red channel. This amp really has almost to much gain, it's enough to stick with the orange channel in OD2 because it's less fizzy and harsh.
@tanshaomala

Dual Rectifier. What a ballsy, throaty tone. 6505 is damn good too. The others sounded thin, harsh and fizzy. I will say that the 6505 sounded clearest on the same riff portion at the end but still retained some nice bottom end. Cant beat the price for them either.

Awesome video!!! I loved every minute. Great job of portraying these amps in their true greatness! I have a JVM so I perked up when you demoed it. I noticed you had the orange mode selected when you demonstrated the clean channel. It was pretty clean on orange, however, the green mode is very full, powerful, and crystal clear on the the JVM. You nailed it when you said you could get any tone you wanted out of the Marshall. With its 4 channels, it was the most versatile of the amps. The Mesa was my 2nd choice it has a “vibe” that makes me want one! I am not a metal player but I dug that sound! Great job!

Thank you so much for NOT placing a tube screamer in front of these heads. This compare, and contrast was done in the same method I would have presented. A decimator in the loop, and nothing else. The clean tones of the JVM, and Peavey's 6505 were tasty, accurate, and not sterile; as the other examples. They all performed outstandingly with their respective overdrive voicing. I think your choice of guitar was well considered. It was a general characterization of instruments within the realm of current metal players. The only criticism I have is why the Blackstar HT Metal, Soldano Avenger, Bogner Uberschall, Diezel Herbert, Bray 4550 Deluxe, Wizard MTL, Splawn Nitro, Revv, and KSR were excluded? This critique is subjective in nature. The units chosen here are widely available. I found the Randall very surprising in efficiency, and openness! Well done!

The Peavey Ultra Plus cleans kill Mesa's and it's way tighter on the gain stage than the 6505. People couldn't find the preamp tube stage that's why they didn't sell, although the 4 pre tubes are just behind a protective panel though and the head lights up and changes color which turned many off of it. The mids are way too powerful on the ultra so you have to scoop the shit out of them.

Mesa is built for an overdrive. They give so much low end so when you put a that saturation in it, it has everything. Peavey on the other hand usually sounds good for metal right out of the box BUT low end can be sacrificed when you add an overdrive. It can be hard to maintain that.

I really like the ENGL, but the second lead channel at full gain sounded flat and dull. The Marshall clean was the classic Marshall warm, they really can’t mess with it, but I like more head room. You’re right the Marshall is more rock than metal it needs signal processing. I liked the Randall cleans and dirty over the Marshall. Better voicing. Better on lead than ENGL which is surprising. Peavy 6505+ much better clean. Nice head room and range. I liked the ENGL better for the rhythm and the Randall best for the lead. Clean 6505+ Rhythm ENGL Lead Randall

Wow!!! You just totally made me change my view and now I want the Dual rectifier because that clean just sounds so amazing and one thing I always look for in an amp is definitely an amazing clean and I considered getting the 6505+ but now the Dual Rectifier it is and Thank you so much man for doing an in-depth demo on it

Reeeeally liked the JVM. Surprisingly the clean was amazing, it had an almost bell-like tone in the midrange. EL-34s aren't usually known for outstanding cleans but those of the JVM sounded great.

if you ask me, the Engl Savage 120 is more classic than the powerball II. Don't get me wrong, I looove the powerball II, but the savage 120 is just way more classic.

If you're gonna chug and live on the bottom 5 frets, Randall. If you're a lead player, Marshall. If you want to do it all, Peavey will take you there.

Wish you had tried out a soldano head...now that thing has some serious tone. That was George Lynch’s sound during the Lynch Mob days. One of the first heads to give you a lot of options for your tone. Bright & normal...overdrive & normal

You did a great comparison, put links in the description for every minute for reference, compared them all with the same lick..what can I say, Subscribed! \m/ Personal favourite was the 6505 too, but all of them sound amazing, I did not expected the marshall to sound like this to be honest!

Grew up on Boogie, but these days, I'd pick the 6505 every time. My preference evolved and the 6505 just sounds "MORE" than the Rectifier. There's more in the low-mids that gives it a width that I can't really find in anything else.

I really love the Soldano Tone, it is possibly the best tone with a 808, RAT or Dist+. I guess Randall falls short of Soldano... For me the Modern Metal Heads are 1. Diezel VH4 2. Friedman Be-100 3. Victory countess 4. Orange Rockerverb 5. PRS Archon

I have always been overwhelmingly biased towards Marshall Amps, and particularly that JVM 410 that puppy came out around the time I graduated High School and I just remembered what a freaking versatile amp and a great amp for anything needing any amount of gain as well. The JVM will always hold a sweet spot in my heart. But gahleee that 6505 +/5150 II is a legend. Out of all the simple amps where you only have 2 channels, and very minimal tone switching and gain stagging (3 total) but maximal versatility plus all the gain you could ever need in a minimalist platform the Peavey 6505 + is unparalleled.

All of them are fricking sick!! But I'm a Marshall loving el34 addict so with that up front I gotta say Marshall JVM. For me, it's definitely Marshall. They're all great amps that blow your hair back & melt faces for sure! I've had a lot of amps over the past 39yrs including the Mesa & Peavey, but while they've moved on to feed the perpetual GAS I have, my Marshall is not going anywhere! She absolutely rocks hard & is, for me, the best of the best. Keep doing the good stuff!!!!!!!!🤘😁🤘

At 8:21, I’ve concluded the amps are sounding basically the same, from 1channel to the next. So I got bored, and I don’t see a need to replace my Bugera 333XL Infinium; in which many may notice these are Christmas Wish Book amps. If I were to go to a different name brand, it would be Mesa( not overrated, just over priced, or speaking truthfully; too expensive for my pocket), I’ve always wanted to be like Santana and Di Meola, and back in the late 70’s and early 80’s, $900 - 1200, wasn’t bad, although it was a 1 12” combo, but kicked a Twin Reverb off it’s pedestal, which was 2 12”!!

Of all the expensive amps I have tried, the Mesa Boogie Dual/Triple Rectifier is my favorite. Have not tried a Bogner, Diezel, Mezzabarba so hard to tell from experience. I probably will sell off my Peavey 6505 to get one in the future.

Would love to see some of these in standard tuning. Really appreciate you doing this without a chain of effects. Annoying trying to watch a gear demo that's drenched in delay and reverb. That RD100 has the ideal tone imo. So chunky yet articulate.

6505+ is hard to beat for straight out of the box, face-melting distortion. No mess, no fuss, just pure metal. I've had the 5150 and 6505+ now for years and have never considered any other amp. I've played through Mesa Boogies, Engls, Marshalls and Randalls and the only thing that even comes close for me is the Engl. Even then, it just didn't have the simplicity and tone of the 6505.

Hi, just a remark Slash never used this amp and Zakk wylde also never used this amp, period. Slash used a JCM 800 modded with 6550 or his 2550 Jubilee Head and Zakk always used JCM 800 with 6550 tubes or his head that is a jcm 800 modded . Guys that used this head are: Joe Satriani with his own model modded, Michael Amott, Alexi Laiho, Dave Mustaine among others.

1.) I noticed that the rhythm channel settings didnt change at all from clean to crunch. Pre-gain stayed at 3. Is that correct or an error of the video editing? I have the 6505 mini head which allegedly uses the same preamp as its big brother, but for a crunch like that the pre gain needs to be about 7, even with hot pickups. 2.) Anyone else like the lead channel on the 6505 for chugging and rhythm crunching?
