Nice going! And it seems like HR has done a fair job of system installations since unlike so many big sailing channels with brand new multihulls that keep failing, your boat looks to be in no real need of big warranty repairs…

Exactly. It really held up beautifully. After a weeks worth of slamming early on, I was afraid the woodwork would be in pieces. The rigging and interior were absolutely absolutely perfect!

Great videos! It would be interesting to hear about which options you selected and which ones you didn't. And also hear your reasoning behind your choices. Love your boat!

Suprising to me that so many of these boats were ordered without the hard dodger…..which looks great and is hugely functional. Like older HR models, perhaps they can be retrofitted? If so……one day it might broaden my choice of used boats!

@@ukpitts I agree wholeheartedly. We’re seeing more cruisers with hard tops. Interestingly, John Kretchmer addressed this topic on last months captains hour. He retrofitted a very beefy hard top on Quetzal back in 2018 and swears by it. The only issue I have is the path into the cockpit is somewhat restricted between the hardtop and steering pedestal.

@@sailinghaldis Perhaps in a perfect word, the roof of the hardtop could have a sectiom that slid in, halving the distance covered from the windshield to the aft edge of the roof section. Leave it pushed forward to reduce stooping distance unless the extra shade or rain protection was needed. But perhaps it would add too much weight or make the central roof section too thick? I Have seen it done with a framed fabric section, as on the Pegasus Globe 50 - which has more headroom under the dodger roof anyway. Still, this is a luxury problem! One I sadly do not have just yet……

Hi, loved your videos. Next May, I am planning exactly the same trip, from east of Sweden via the Kiel and also crossing the English Channel towards Southampton for some boat work. I will be sailing a Malö 42. I just have a question on passport control. You are leaving the EU and entering great Britain- so, did you use any port in the EU to exit? And in which port did you enter the UK. I am grateful for some info. Thanks

@@SailingAman-b7k I believe any port with passport control should suffice. We exited at Lysekil only because I needed to maximize my time outside of the European Union due to the extended time of the trip. I had been in the EU for the factory tour in February and then had planned greater than 90 days from my arrival in Sweden to exiting from southern France. As a result, I exited the EU as quickly as possible, so the entire trip from Sweden all the way to Breat was outside of the EU and gave me just enough time to be legal. Lysekil was convenient and easy. We were able to go online and schedule border agents to meet us at the stock and stamp our passports. Thanks for watching! 😊

Thanks for continuing to document sailing your beautiful HR44. I have enjoyed watching the factory tour to turnover to sailing southbound. Are you planning to sail back to the US or have it shipped?

The boat is in southern France. We’re planning to keep it in the Mediterranean for the next couple years and then do a crossing.

Your HR44 sure is one beautiful sailboat! Once you're in the Med will it just be you and your wife sailing? Also, did you consider the HR 40C at all?

Thank you! Yes, we sailed to the Balearic Islands from Ellös Sweden. We cruised the Mediterranean during the months of July and August. This current trip took place over June.
