I can’t lie my soul has been starving for some meaningful music from black women, with no bad language, no nudity in the videos, no twerking etc. Halle has delivered this and more, it’s so stripped back and doesn’t revolve around a man or her body parts. 💯 I really love to see more young black female artists produce great music that doesn't include being overly/hyper sexual, as it seems too many mainstream black female singers/rappers seem to default to that. It's great to see more r&b soul, blues, and jazzy music having a mainstream comeback with black artists. Hopefully, we get to see more black female singers making this type of music or even go explore different/alternative genres (ex. rock, country, indie, etc.) and the audience giving all the love and support needed to boost their careers!

Yes Halle! As soon as she dropped that teaser with the black girl hair line, I just felt it in my spirit that this was gonna be uplifting and reassuring for black girls. And I just KNEW it was because of the horrific discourse she got about her and her hair from POS that couldn’t handle her being The Little Mermaid. The memes about her locs, her eyes, calling her ugly, and everything but the child of god, it takes a toll. And she was only 18 when she was cast, that poor baby. So glad she turned all that negativity into a hit song. There’s no one like her in the industry right now. The overly sexual trope is tired. No shade to those girls but I’m seriously tired of it. Halle reminds me so much of Aaliyah and Brandy. I hope she keeps it beautiful and classy going forward. And keeps giving amazing ballads. When this song dropped I IMMEDIATELY put it into my morning playlist. Everything that Halle has been doing since TLM has been extremely healing for the little girl in me and this song is the icing on a very expensive, and intricate cake. I cry every time I play it, just like I cried every time I saw the first TLM trailer when it dropped. Halle has a healing energy to her and I can see that she’s taking that responsibility very seriously. Also WHO was the background vocals in the chorus because they AAAAATE I get chills from this song. I can feel myself heal a piece of the little black child in me each time I play it. All the questions of worthiness, letting go of the insecurities that were never yours but were projected onto you when you when you saw yourself through someone else’s eyes, whether those eyes be jealous or hateful. Halle debuted strong as hell! I do feel like Halle might do one of the two things. Keep up with this sound she has and have her debut be concept album which will tell a stroy, or come out with something to show us that she can do both. I'm not a black girl. But I have beautiful black nieces. I've been a teacher 20+ years in the "bad" neighborhood I grew up in, and I've loved many children through the years. I've heard convos they didnt think i could hear. Sometimes kids are cruel and the insecurities can start SO young. The negativity some of our children wake and face everyday, that they're just not enough, it's crushing. I know half of that battle being a woman, and seeing the subliminal messaging EVERYWHERE in society, I can only empathize with my black sisters. This song was SO necessary. I am so impressed, the vocals, the substance, the visuals... yes zach, this feeds the soul ❤ I hope every soul that needs this song hears it. It is truly medicine ❤
