If you watch michael’s 1995 vma performance of Dangerous, victoria was paying more homage to that performance hence his trademark armband (which was a dead giveaway who she was showing love to) and overall look and dances she did during the choruses only. That wasn’t a zoot suit at all lol, just a regular suit and tie. That was all MJ right there as far as that went. I think people getting it confused bc the title of her song and janet’s 1989 hit but not looking at the overall video and knowing what’s really what. However, they were a lot of janet references in many secens esp the sensual scenes of the video that i noticed like the one of her topless like it was a boomerang. Janet had a video like that too.

I see MJ yes, only for one specific thing that i forementined in my initial response but to me, i got more janet vibes in terms of other things and tbh, the entire video besides the chorus scenes she did from the entire aesthetic that was more MJ’s Dangerous than Janet’s Alright. And the chorus i can see Janet’s Alright inspo in it too in the choreo. Like a mixture of both siblings. I discussed it with a friend when we watched it the day it released. I don’t know as much as I should about Victoria Monet but when this music video popped up on my for you page, I HAD to watch. Honestly? One of the best music videos I’ve seen in a loooong time, and that’s saying something considering the quality of the music and music videos being put out by the pop, R&b, and raps girlies right now. But this one…I legit realized that my jaw was open when I finished it. I LOVE that they didn’t rely on too many bells and whistles. They got some (deceptively) simple but stunning and effective visuals to really let the music, choreography, and styling shine. THE CHOREOGRAPHY! Just…WOW!
