Yeah trying to budget in some time for the shop again. Tough with the craziness going on and a 2 1/2 year old running around :-)

Those collet holders are not hardened if they are like the one I got off of ebay. They can easily be machines. If you South Bend is a 13" like mine, it is a hybrid 4.5 MT taper in the spindle.

I have a 1956 13" south bend and I've been trying to find out how i can place a center in the spindle bore so I can have the option to turn between centers, Is there a center that will fit directly into the spindle bore or is the spindle cone adaptor needed for that ?

Nice. Now I need to keep a lookout for that taper adapter and some collets. :)

They come up from time to time on ebay. There was a guy out here in MA that was making them, but he's closed up shop.

@@Halligan142 That's too bad. I'm in no rush. Just started the tear down and restoration of my 113-B. Using some of your videos as a guide. Thanks for putting them out there.

It’s always nice to get a good handle on things. 😉

depends on what you're handling

I am making a simular unit for my 5 MT spindle including the nose piece. Nice job.

are you going the hardened and ground rout or just machined?
@robertnirenberg45563 жыл бұрын
Nice project and clean execution!! I'm curious why you went this route instead of building an ER-40 chuck like you did for the 9"? Thanks for sharing your work with us!

Do you notice when the tip of your inserts are broken or chip ? And also you can make the nose part to fit 5C collet since the smaller collet are hard to find used.

Nice job but I think you should have used some HSS and ground a slotting tool for the grooves.

Too lazy to hack it out of a 5/16 or 3/8 blank. I ordered some parting blades so I should be good now.
