One frequently overlooked detail of this movie that’s just as cool as any other-and is my favorite-is how Michael is listed in the credits: *The Shape.* Downright sinister.

Another cool detail from the novelization is that Annie and Laurie were driving around to visit friends and look at stuff before going to Lindsey and Tommy's houses to babysit. That's why it's dark when they get there. Still, it doesn't take that long because the sun sets earlier in the Fall

What makes Michael scary is that theres no explanation.. it's considered an amazing aspect by real fans. People have so many theories. John carpentor, the writer and director sais Michael Myers is a total mystery. We have no idea why he kills. He could be a sick person, or a bad person, or a force of evil. We just don't know.

I'd say it's simply down to Carpenter, not being able to come up with a plausible explanation for a six year old boy, suddenly becoming a catatonic mute for no reason whatsoever and then stabbing his sister to death.

@@FisTheEvil [Edited for grammar] Except a sequel was never planned for this movie until After the other slashers came out. Fans know the background information on that. I'm not arguing with you or anything. I'm just letting you know what happened. The plot isn't lazy or undefined. It's not deep as the ocean either. haha. It's thought out, but really is supposed to be a fun teen slasher movie that was just done very well by the writers, director, and crew. Yeah, the acting isn't great because it's the first gig for most of the actors. That's why Loomis stands out. It's cool if you don't like Halloween and Michael Myers. I love this movie And Myers, but I understand the reasons why some people don't. Have a good one

@@plstne48 I just wanted to let you know that people have discussed this in depth and the fandom takes sides: Myers is highly intelligent. Therefore, all the times he's been taken in a car, he's been low-key watching how it's done. This is covered in the novelization, when Myers hops into the car and is almost caught because he's not quite sure how to get it moving at first. Myers has a dark intuition that helps him do things he's never done before, and know when to move so he's only seen when he chooses to be seen. And, Myers is told what to do by a nearly ageless demonic and vengeful spirit, Ende. The novelization has this storyline, too, in which the thousands of years old Ende is telling Myers everything he needs to know and Myers follows all of the things Ende tells him to do

Great reaction! I saw this movie at my local neighborhood theater when it was first released - I was 10, and it scared the heck out of me! For months afterward, I remember playing a game with the neighborhood kids where I would "be" Michael Myers. I would stand there expressionless until they ran, and then slowly walk after them. "Fun" memories.

As others have pointed out, Halloween II in 1981 is a direct sequel. In fact, if you watch part 2 (1981) you really can look at 1 & 2 as one singular film because it's all the same night. Halloween 2 (1981) is one of the best sequels I've ever seen. I saw the first one when I was a child on HBO and it scared me to death. Part 2, in my view, is a great film because there is no time lapse. You'll understand if you watch it. After part 2 in 1981 the series was essentially dormant until 1988, as part 3 had nothing to do with the Michael Myers character, and it started again in part 4. Part 4 was really the last good Halloween film. Not up to par with the first 2 in 1978 & 1981, but still a good film on its own. Everything after Part 4 has been garbage. Even the new sequels with Jamie Lee Curtis have been terrible. Jamie Lee was rumored to have taken a percentage of the profits on the new sequels starting in 2018 rather than an up front flat fee, so she's presumably made a fortune off these new ones, and that's cool because she deserves it, but the new films are just garbage and inferior to the first 2 in 78' & 81'. I won't even go into the Rob Zombie remakes starting back in 2007, those aren't even worth mentioning. IMO you should definitely check out part 2 (1981) and part 4 (1988), again part 3 has nothing to do with Michael. Other than the first 2 films and part 4 you'd have to be a die hard fan to really enjoy all the other Halloween films. They simply went to the well too many times. Same as Star Wars. The first three S Wars films are amazing, Revenge of The Sith was good but not comparable to the first 3, and all of the sequels, The Force Awakens et al, were just garbage.

Michael Myers is like Jaws. Silent killer, his theme song speaks for him, and announces his presence. Both have "the blackest eyes, the Devil's eyes", both Quint and Dr. Loomis say the exact same words. He kills 5 people, 4 onscreen, 1 off, same as Jaws. His first victim was a pretty naked blonde girl, just like Jaws. He suffers 9 wounds, (3 stabbings, 6 gunshots) just like Jaws (6 stabbings, 3 gunshots). The 10th wound Jaws suffered was the fatal gunshot that blew up the air tank inside his.......Jaws. Michael didn't suffer a 10th wound, so he survived, unlike Jaws. LOL

This movie hits close to something that happened when I was a kid. Back in the early 70's the small town we lived in a father and son were brutally murdered on October 30th. I sent a shock wave of fear thru the town and Halloween was cancelled. Everyone wondered if the killer was someone they knew. 20 years later two men were arrested in another state for murdering another family and they confessed to the murders in our town.

You know, if you only watch the first Halloween movie, you'd never get more than a surface level understanding of what's going on. A kid goes crazy one Halloween and kills his older sister and her boyfriend while his parents are gone. He gets sent to a psychiatric hospital for fifteen years. He breaks out and goes on a killing spree that Halloween. The doctor hunts him down and kills him after some teenagers get killed. But, then the body disappears at the end, leading to a rather mysterious question mark if he's still alive. It's only when you watch the second and third movies do you get the two most important answers about Michael. The second movie tells us why he's after Laurie Strode specifically, when he normally just kills and is done with it. And, no, it's not because she got away. That's not how he operates. The third movie explains why he kills and why he went crazy when he was a kid, but also explains why for fifteen years, he was nothing but a model patient, and only after those many years does he break out. So, I suggest you watch those two after this one. They're very important.

John Carpenter and Debra Hill were dating at the time they made this movie John wrote all of Dr. Loomis's lines and Debra did the writing for the girls because she was a babysitter in her teenage years in her hometown of Haddonfield New Jersey. Jamie originally wanted the part of Linda and Pj Soles wanted to play Laurie because they were more like those roles as teenagers. Dennis Quaid was offered the role of the shape because he was married to PJ at the time but he turned it down because he was doing something else at the time. They had a very small budget so they had to use their clothes or in Jamie's case, she bought all her clothes for the movie from J.C. Penny's. They even had to get fall leaves and reuse them for the shots having to run around and collect them after each shot

@@MJoy4Fun Perhaps you should know a little bit more about the Halloween timelines apologies in advance if it's a long read but you have to know this to follow the timelines properly. Firstly here are all the movies in its entirety. Halloween (1978) Halloween 2 (1981) Halloween 3 season of the witch Halloween 4 the return of Michael Myers Halloween 5 the revenge of Michael Myers Halloween 6 the curse of Michael Myers Halloween H20 Halloween resurrection Rob zombie Halloween (2007 Rob zombie H2 Halloween (2018) Halloween kills Halloween ends Okay so let's break down the timelines. The curse of thorn timeline Halloween (1978) Halloween (1981) Halloween 4 the return of Michael Myers Halloween 5 the revenge of Michael Myers Halloween 6 the curse of Michael Myers The curse of thorn timeline is about Michael Myers being under controlled by a cult and tries to kill his niece Laurie strode's daughter. Also when you get to parts 6 I can't stress this enough DO NOT WATCH THE DIRECTOR'S CUT!!!! Save yourselves the trouble and just stick to the theatrical version because if you look at the director's cut its not going to make sense. The theatrical version for part 6 is the best way to go. Halloween 20 years later timeline. Halloween (1978) Halloween 2 (1981) Halloween H20 Halloween resurrection In the twenty years later timeline part 4 to part 6 never happened and it picks up twenty years later after the first murders. Laurie strode is in hiding and under a different alias but I don't want to give too much away so that's the second timeline Halloween 40 years later timeline blumhouse trilogy. Halloween (1978 Halloween (2018) Halloween kills Halloween ends In this timeline the events after 1978 Michael is recaptured and spends the next 40 years locked up in the mental institution. Laurie Strode spends the next 40 years preparing for the day he escapes again. Halloween 3 season of the witch does not go with either of these timelines they try to make the Halloween franchise different stories but the fans wanted Michael Myers back so Halloween 3 is the only one that doesn't feature Michael Myers but it's still a good movie. The Rob zombie Halloween movies are just a reimagining and a much more brutal spin on Rob Zombie's idea of Halloween those movies are pretty good too. Sorry this is a long read but this is the timelines three different ones. Love y'all reaction on the first Halloween looking forward to more of those reactions thank you.

You should get used to the way movies were made back then. Remember The Exorcist. It had a very slow build up of tension as you got to know about each character. That way by the time you get to the gruesome parts you are totally invested in the various characters. Nowadays you have to have instant gratification. It’s very effective. It’s just a different way of telling the stories.

This 1978 movie still destroys all the terrible remakes. Not knowing "why" is what makes this movie stand the test of time. For me.. just like the ALIEN and THE TERMINATOR franchises, all I need are the first two films HALLOWEEN (1978) and HALLOWEEN II (1981) and end on a high note. The rest just mucks up the franchise. I hope you get to HALLOWEEN II (1981) and save yourself and don't waste your time with the cheap remakes.

Baba Yaga, isn't that John Wick? 🤣👍 ...as for the movie Halloween; I know it's a classic but these types of movies really don't do it for me. I much prefer the ones that have more suspense and leave some things to your own imagination- like Alien.

I think Laurie Strode reacts perfectly for a teenage girl facing an unholy terror in 1978. She has not had the benefit of watching horror films for the last 44 years, in order to “know” what to do. I’ve never bothered to watch any of the sequels but it sounds like H2 is worth watching.

Special props to actor/stuntman/frequent John Carpenter collaborator Nick Castle who played adult Michael Meyers throughout the movie, except for the couple of face reveal moments. One of the great physical performances of horror. It was uncommon in the 70s for any actor to achieve such a monumental screen presence without once showing their face or speaking a single word of dialog.

Well if y'all want an explanation you have to watch the second part and pretty much all of the Halloween movies. The second part goes into greater detail this was just a taste.

Fun Facts: The part of Michael Myers were played by 3 people. The main guy playing the part is John Carpenter's friend Nick Castle, who would go on to be a successful director himself directing movies like The Last Starfighter, Dennis the Menace (1993) and Major Payne. The man playing Michael unmasked near the end is Tony Moran, brother of actress Erin Moran from the TV show Happy Days and the third guy was a stuntman who did the stunt on the balcony. Actress PJ Soles (Lynda) pitched the idea to John Carpenter the idea of casting her boyfriend at the time Dennis Quaid (then an unknown) to play Bob but it didn't work out. The voice of Paul on the phone talking to Annie is actually director John Carpenter. The mask Michael wore in the movie was a William Shatner Captain Kirk mask that they painted white and the hair all messed up.

@@NightRanger-lz6tp SIX people play Michael Myers in this film. Will Sandin as 6 yr old Michael. Nick Castle is The Shape. The hand that grabs the knife out of the drawer when Michael kills his sister is Debra Hill's hand. Debra Hill is also the silhouette of the Boogeyman that Tommy Doyle sees out of the window. Tony Moran is the unmasked Michael at the end of the film. A stunt man, whose name I can't recall performed the jump from the balcony. Last, but not least was Tommy Wallace a member of the crew, who was chosen to play Michael when he breaks the wooden blinds of the closet Laurie is hiding in. Nick Castle, and a couple of others were unable to break the wooden blinds in a way that looked realistic, or 'correct'. Tommy Wallace did it in a way that Carpenter liked, so he got to play The Shape for that one bit.

I hate newer horror films that explain why the villains are evil. The back stories generally make the villain into a sympathetic character. I prefer older horror films from the 1970s and 80s which have evil beings killing everything in sight for no reason.

I''m writing that my name is Josh and i'm writing that i believe that because Halloween Ends in 2022 was Jamie Lee Curtis's last Halloween film in the Halloween franchise then i believe that they should bring back Danielle Harris as Laurie Strode's daughter Jamie Lloyd in a brand new Halloween trilogy that would ignore Halloween 5 and Halloween 6. Jamie Lee Curtis and Danielle Harris would be tied at seven Halloween films in the Halloween film franchise. the third and final film in the new Halloween trilogy with Danielle Harris as Jamie Lloyd would be released in theatres in October 2028 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Halloween franchise.

The reactors all comment and ask "doesn't anyone lock their doors and windows"? At this time in America, it was very common to not lock doors and windows. Most places in America at this time were very safe and most people knew and trusted their neighbors. If there was a neighbor that was sketchy, everybody shared that info and told their kids to stay away. They would also keep an eye out for that neighbor. There were many more stay at home moms and they would socialize and be in each other's homes. So they would know how well the other women kept their homes or if someone's home was dirty. Say for instance woman house was dirty or had animal hair everywhere, or allowed cats on tables or counters, the mom would talk to the other moms and tell their kids not to eat their food at pot luck. Everyone would know which wives were good cooks and which one to avoid at all costs at the pot luck. Things were just different (and better) then. The social fabric was MUCH more strong and everyone knew their neighbors.

The great thing is John Carpenter made sure that anyone in the audience had no kind of relation to Michael Myers. You cant sympathize or anything really with him at all. Unless your an unstoppable killing machine
