There are plenty of companies that have accidentally or by neglegance killed their customers and people already forgotten. It's just as "bad" for the image like certain infamous game publishers and studios throwing out the yearly usual buggy crap *cough* Ubisoft, Blizzard/Activision, EA, Bethesda *cough*. I work in the Industry software sector, if I would deliver crap like this and fix it months later, I would lose my job, because there are actually lifes on the line if certain things are off or the failsafe doesn't trigger.

The lack of control or the kind of phrasing should that is just "not illegal" but actually should be, when it comes to things they sell as medicine, like Homeopathy. Which doesn't work beyond the placebo effect. Funny enough there is a giant homeopathy conglomerate located in Germany. They have sued doctors, the media etc, for stating that after tests their "medicine" doesn't show any medicinal effects beyond the placebo effect. Which can get you sued for slander by simply stating this publicly while mentioning the "Hefert Institute". The fine was about 5600€ last time, for a female doctor. If you're curious, you can look that up. It's a shit show.

Only they needed to do the "big giveaway" at 9:00 PM Eastern/6:00 PM Pacific as in real life, if this actually happened we would have heard about it happening on the east coast long before it became 9:00 PM on the west coast (and in 1982 when the film came out, Halloween happened to fall on a Sunday so 9:00 ET/6:00 PM could have been done). One of the goofs they made in the film.

i assumed the announcement was for local time to their respected regions since thats what live event ads announce for tv and radio. this was in ohio so east coast time zone, making california 6 which is when trick or treating usually starts and probably had their own unique announcement. really even if it was just one coast affected it would have had enough devastation for mainland usa anyway
