I think people are misinterpreting what Michael saw in Corey. He didn't let him go out of mercy, he saw the eyes of a killer - he saw himself. It's why the film literally makes Corey the killer. Evil takes different shape, as Laurie points out.

There’s no reason to have made him that hated by the community looking for a new monster to hate. The only trouble you see from Corey early on in that he doesn’t know what he wants to do for college. Otherwise everyone had a very positive view of him. Made no sense

I thought the handling of Cory was incredible. I honestly think he carried this movie. I didn't really miss Michael too much because Cory's arc was so fun and compelling to watch. It was a solid character arc. Myers teaming up was in older films with the Man in black/Thorn cult. @julienbalsen84562 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with Barry's analysis. It had to end and the film offers an ending. I think it's a good one and I'm fine with it. I also got very attached to Corey's character and I also thought it made sense for him to survive, if only to leave a door open. The references to "Halloween III Season of the Witch" are obvious: the credits with the blue characters, the music, and also the fact that Michael is almost absent. The introduction is smashing, and certainly one of the best in the franchise. The heart of the film is more of a psychological drama, an inner tug-of-war between good and evil, with a lot of symbolic references that take it away from the original horror genre and the previous films. Many thought it was like "Christine" and it is: the fact that Corey is employed in a car garage is not insignificant. The motorcycle represents the desire to escape from a city that has become cursed. I found Haddonfield to be more and more like Amity in "It" in its atmosphere of incommunicable terror: Michael is a shadow of his former self, and his absence has only strengthened the evil in the town. The final minutes and the final face-off of Laurie against Michael are intense. It's a mirror and a nose-thumbing to "Halloween Resurrection": everything is reversed. We have the conclusion that everyone loved in "H20": Laurie can live the rest of her life in peace (cherry blossoms are a symbol of renewal in Japan)
@sephfcuoctasphere19782 жыл бұрын
It seemed like there were supernatural (preternatural) moments. The first kill we see with Myers he seems to be strengthened by it, he was in bad shape (pun intended) but then it was like he absorbed the kill and it reinvigorated him. When The Shape was looking into Corey’s eyes he was seeing a potential and it seemed like there was a transfer that took place. After that Laurie saw him (Corey) differently. I think that there are subtle supernatural/preternatural things going on. Supernatural/Preternatural don’t necessarily mean immortal.

I've seen the film and played the part over and over and I agree, the first stare down was an exchange, but I don't think Micheal saw pain in Corey, I think he saw evil. He saw a newer more aggressive evil with purpose, and for a few brief moments , it looks like Mikey was afraid of Corey. The first kill ,it was like micheal was afraid to kill til Corey made him. (The cop) , then looks for approval as he looks at Corey then stabs th red head. He let's him live, and couldn't beat him one on one over the mask. The minute Micheal got his chance he ended the evil. Micheal is the hero in this one , that's why he got the heros send off. Like super man. Except the crushing part. Lol
@christianc.christian50252 жыл бұрын
I saw it much differently. I didn’t see it as Michael letting Corey go. Just that Michael was weakened and blocked by an obstruction while Corey was desperate, weak, lonely, etc. So, he read too much into it and told himself that Michael spared him because he is “special.” Allyson even says that her mom saved her; but Corey’s mom is part of his problem. So, he had to fill in the rest and make up a flattering myth about how powerful he could become. And it failed spectacularly.

And the fact that it was a conclusion to a trilogy… it didn’t really feel like it belonged in the trilogy. Then again following the same script causes many to say it’s the same old thing. I agree Corey was really good for the first 20 minutes of the film with real potential. It was when Corey was pushed off the bridge by the bullies and he encountered Michael Myers he became really weird and when he became braver and stronger by simply looking into Michael's eyes was a real low point for me. Also the way Michael seemed to let Corey take his mask from him was even more strange. I didn't like to see the shape look so vulnerable in the sewers. The movie psychology for the character of Laurie made no sense at all. For Michael to kill her daughter, Tommy and half the town, she should’ve been more on a warpath to find and kill Michael. And the character of Corey, basically turned this movie into Scream instead of a Halloween film. Corey should’ve been introduced in the 2018 and Halloween Kills so fans would have been invested in his way into madness. I truly believe the proper ending to this film would have been Michael and Laurie both dying together.

I really enjoyed Ends. My favorite of the new trilogy. The homage to Christine was perfect. I liked how it was Corey's film. I also liked how Michael's role was limited. That made sense after the mob attack in Kills where he was shot 5 times, point blank. And he was 65 here, old and extremely weak; gave Michael a new dimension and some depth without explaining him. Michael still had a "supernatural" quality to him. Corey was Arnie Cunningham here. The scene with him versus the bullies was brutal and the best part of the film. I'm glad it wasn't open ended. Everything felt right to me, and Ends felt like a true ending. I say it's the second best film in franchise behind the OG 78 film.
@aricnichols26112 жыл бұрын
Corey Cunningham is definitely one of my new favorite Halloween characters with regards to character development. It was interesting seeing how he went from normal, to ostracized, to full blown psychotic. Granted, I was a bit disappointed with his untimely demise, that would be my only negative critique with the movie, plus the length of it. I think there will be an extended addition to Halloween Ends that will be released later on the same way they did with Kills. As for Michael, the one thing I thought was interesting with him in this movie, was how he went from being a cripple to a strong man again in a manner of seconds after killing again. It was almost as though killing was what gave him life. And maybe not killing enough was probably what led to his downfall, because he didn't kill enough as he did in 2018 and Kills. He was able to take more punishment then, because he was on a massive slaughter spree. But in this movie, he hasn't killed nearly enough, so it hasn't given him enough strength and endurance to go after Laurie. That's my theory though. 😉

I honestly feel they didn’t give a crap about this movie in the end as long as Jamie lee got her “proper” ending. When many online are posting themselves watching “resurrection” and saying they’re appreciating it now thanks to how bad ends is….I’m just shocked. Those who like it, I’m glad they have a great time and those who don’t, I definitely can see where they are coming from.🎃

Did his body get totally destroyed like Myers? No. Myers has been through worse than what happened to Corey and he kept coming back. Corey will be taken to the morgue in a body bag and he can get up again and start killing. We have seen this scene countless times by you know who. Michael Myers.

I think Laurie got over things after 2018 even though more happened, because she was just going to go crazy if she kept herself in the same headspace she was in in 2018 (and she KNEW she would go crazy if she didn’t try to change her mindset), so it kind of makes sense.
@WolfmansGotNards2 жыл бұрын
But she could have done that in 1978.

So it took her a while to wise up, maybe. People are funny about mental health. When you break an arm, you do what’s best and go to the doctor/hospital. Mental health/emotional trauma and coping are different beasts. I’m just playing Devil’s advocate.

I mostly agree with what you say Barry, I got the shift in the story telling and enjoyed the Corey character. The End sucked, and left me thinking........ can the Halloween franchise survive niw we all know "you can kill the Boogeyman" Now we know Michael is gone, there is no Halloween, so any new direction just wouldn't feel right, but hey, who knows.

I didn’t know how to feel about this movie like in kills for Michael to go through all that and still lived yes 3 years later so he’s weak but for him to die this way by just getting his throat slit and wrist like it doesn’t seem real even in 1978 he was shot 6 times and still survived that 2018 got shot at and lit on fire survived in kills the mob shot him stabbed him still survived but in ends that’s all it took was to be pinned down

Hey buddy. Thanks for al the awesome videos. I have to say after watching Halloween ends it really sucks that they put that scene with Corey taking his mask from him so easily unfortunately the man who could walk through a burning building and kill a whole crew of firefighters can’t even fend off this dude I just made him look weak in my opinion much like you said in many of your videos Hopefully someone can take a spin on Michael Myers and make another good one where he’s lurking in the background

Barry you're so right, it did feel like an anthology movie. Did I miss Michael 🤔 not too much. It's like paranormal activity the last film which wasn't really a paranormal activity film. In this Halloween Michael felt like more of a urban myth, the boogeyman so to speak. Not my favourite Halloween film but I enjoyed it none the less. 👍👍🎃🎃

I think their was so much hype for this movie that this was bound to happen with shows like yours ... everyone on KZbin was given their takes and theories on what was gonna happen. even jlc said it's going to piss a lot of people off. I'm glad it's over. if they wanted they should've went the Quentin Tarantino's route and just did two parts where u kill jlc and mm and then Corey becomes the new killer following Allison out of town to continue the saga.

I thought this at first, too, but the opening montage of Haddonfield shows that a *lot* of people were shot, abused, committed suicide, etc. She may have just ran off. And even if she was killed, it’s tough to say who killed her or where.

Well it’s been a while since I commented on one of your vids brotha, I watch em all but this one I really had to wait until i’d seen the movie to leave a comment, I completely agree with every word, the kid dying at the beginning got me, I was like ohhhh that’s settings things up nice and as I was watching it I really didn’t see, like you how Mike was gonna fit in, as you said it really did feel like a two sided rushed movie and that’s speaks one thing to me that they must have scrapped a lot and ended up calling it Halloween Ends and adding Mike instead of calling it Halloween ends and focusing on a “New” evil, if that makes sense, Mike should’ve either come in earlier or the Corey start shouldn’t have been so shocking in a way of ‘so this is going to start again’ kinda feeling..it was a strange watch and I will pick it up as it was not completely shite because like you the guy who played Corey was really good but it definitely didn’t feel like a third instalment to Laurie’s movies…stay safe big man hope the howler family is doing amazing. Room looks absolutely amazing, Love, Purpose n Peace MCD 🎃🔪

I agree with your assessment. Corey's storyline and descent into a killer should have been in a different movie altogether. His story was interesting and his character was well-acted. However, I did not show up to see a Corey Cunningham movie. It felt like Michael and Laurie's battle at the end was done purely out of obligation - a mere afterthought. This was such a bizarre direction to go. The marketing was a pure bait-and-switch in my opinion. What was Green and the writers' thought process here? This felt like an anti-Halloween movie meant to purely subvert expectations. This has been a recent trend in Hollywood that I despise. You have new people given the creative reigns of a longstanding franchise. It seems like they enjoy acting almost antagonistic to existing fans and purposely not give what is desired.
@bigal30552 жыл бұрын
Yep. Someone else said it had a Christine vibe, which it does. That's fine with a film about a killer Plymouth Fury possessing it's owner, but not so much in a Halloween film. I can't quite work out if Michael was Cory's mentor, or if Cory was supposed to be Michael's handler. If its the latter, well it was a stupid idea with the Man in Black, it was a stupid idea with Doc Sultana (whatever) and it was a stupid idea here too. If it was the former, then that's just even worse!
@Chris-qv7xe2 жыл бұрын
See the Christine references MM was basically Christine and possessed Corey cunningham. The same surname as Arnie cunningham from the film Christine. Halloween ends felt rushed and was dispointing. At least the strode storyline is over. Hopefully any new films can take it further.

I think Corey meeting Allyson and Laurie before meeting michael they may have passed on their own trauma from Michael into him knowing what they have gone through it seems like Allyson was passing that onto him more so in rhe dance scene cause she seemed to be getting triggered before they started dancing then corey had a panic attack. That connection michael could feel he had to kill laurie to become stronger again he was just using corey to gain strength. But evil never truly dies it takes shape its in all of us. The idea of trauma he left behind people killing themselves is insane its exactly the world michael wanted to create he has left his legacy. This film has alot of re watch value. Oh some people have missed laurie shows michael the knife so he can see his reflection before she can kill him. Showing some mercy to evil and the whlle town witnessing michaels death is the only way to kill the boogeyman. I loved how at the end when corey was dressed as Michael i got H2 1981 vibes the movements he looked like young Michael clearly the point but the mask he had was very clown looking and also when he is stabbung sr mathis you can see him doing so in the shadows before the lights cut on so disturbing. The fighr scene was emotional for real i almost cried.

I LOVED the movie. Yes it has some issues but honestly the majority of it was wonderful for me. I loved the slow build and brooding atmosphere. Sometimes it even projected the mood of an 80's coming of age film like "Rivers Edge". It was even quite Carpenter-esque in parts and I absolutely felt the "Christine" link. Not sure about you and probably just projection, which I find is always interesting to discuss but, I picked up some homosexual subtext between Corey and Michael. In the "Kill the Cop" scene, it was like Corey was getting off watching Michael almost climax when he was pummeling the cop with the knife. They were an eyelash away from Eiffel Towering. 🤣 Corey was really interesting to me because he starts off a really nice and kind guy with a bright future ahead of him, like Laurie of '78, even down to sharing an enjoyment of chocolate milk and then he descends into a monster. I really liked that. He was a mirror of Laurie. Laurie's response was to step into the light after her trauma and Corey chose to step into the dark.

Just watched this and thought it was a fitting ending for Laurie. This film was never going to be a proper bang Halloween like Halloween kills was. Don’t know if it’s just me but I got a feel of return of the living dead part 3 mixed with a bit of Christine some Halloween in there. I’ll be honest I came out of the cinema feeling a little flat but at the same time glad that I Havnt just watched the same old same old, a very different Halloween, I get why people might dislike this movie yes there’s a couple of mmm what the fuck how etc but this is a Laurie movie and Laurie putting Michael to bed, I really enjoyed the ending. You can tell Jamie lee had a big influence in the ending of this movie. Out of the David Gordon green trilogy I have to say I’m satisfied with the start middle and ending, we all knew this wasn’t going to be like the previous 2 but for me now looking back I think Halloween kills was the best of the 3

Man do I agree with you. Good movie but not a Micheal story which is what we wanted. All they needed to do was have Cory's body be gone when they get back from the junkyard and it would of been perfect for the evil never dies.

Corey and the kid watching The Thing, isn't just a reference to John Carpenter. In the first Halloween Lindsey and Tommy are watching the original Thing From Another World on TV. Another subtle nod that I enjoyed was when, in the prologue scene, the mother of the boy that Corey will be babysitting begins writing the phone number for where they can be reached. She gets as far as 555-23... The phone number of the house in which the babysitter is looking after the children in 1979's, "When A Stranger Calls" is 555-2368. This is also the phone number you would dial for the"Ghostbusters", five years later. Respect.

I really think the filmmakers were trying to make a movie that created the same response as Halloween 3. Maybe in 30 years people will appreciate it. I do think the filmmakers are in a tough spot. Switch it up or more of the same. You could have made a typical sequel, but it won’t get people chattering like this movie has done.

I'm still processing how I feel. Somethings I really liked & some I didn't or don't know how to feel about. I did enjoy it when Cory died, but I also enjoyed a lot of Corey parts. So I didn't hate him or even hate the fact that he was becoming Michael. It was just satisfying to me to see Michael kill him. If that makes sense. Especially after he took his mask. Time will tell if I love this movie or not. I love that this trilogy had a little something for everyone. I really enjoyed Kills the most. We shouldn't allow movies to divide us. We all share 1 passion, that we love Michael Myers! 💜🎃 I can't be selfish & want things my way everytime. That wouldn't be fair to the other fans. If they love something different then they should get that. I want other types of fans to feel the way I felt after watching Kills. Every Halloween fan deserves that.

I was really disappointed in the whole movie , I was overwhelmed with HK and was hoping this would restore a more 2018 feel , Michael had 10 minutes of screen time which for part 3 of a trilogy about him was devastating . I understand what your saying about Corey though and a good solution would be an alternate ending when the blu ray is released where Corey isn’t dead but escapes as Michael goes after Laurie . It reminded me of the recent Star Wars trilogy where the first one was really good followed by a really disappointing middle movie and an even worse 3rd movie finale
@declan32452 жыл бұрын
Loved the movie. Yes it had its flaws but most of them do. I like how each movie in the trilogy is unique. They released 3 movies across a 6 year gap so they're going to want to make each one different and not just have it feel like the exact same thing repeated over and over again. The final fight scene between Michael and Laurie was one of the best. Also, seeing alot of comments about how weak/slow Michael seemed at some points. But are people forgetting he's a 65 year old man who just spent the last 4 years living in a sewer with barely any food, while suffering from burns, gunshot wounds etc. He's hardly gonna be jumping around

Just saw the movie. Loved it. But it was way too short in my opinion. Like before I knew it, the movie was over. Like it was just an hour long, if even that. It left me wanting more. So much more. It's probably intentional but there were no likeable characters in this movie. When I was watching Corey's transformation I was getting vibes of the movie 'Christine'. The felt the exchange between Michael and Corey in the sewers was suggesting that Michael recognized the same infected evil in Corey that is in Michael's DNA. Perhaps an evil that saturates Haddonfield. I liked that it investigated the idea that when trauma happens we have a choice. We can follow a path towards the light like Laurie did or we can follow a path towards the shadows. Laurie represented the survivor of trauma and Corey represented the victim. All interesting archetypes.
