I believe they modified the ending because Halloween Ends was originally supposed to take place on the same night, however, now that they are apparently time jumping 4 years(per an interview with David Gordan Green), it would make Laurie look really bad if she said she's coming for him, and then takes 4 years to get to him.

Michael in this film is the most similar to his original version in the '78 film. Notice the way he surrendered in the flashback to the cops on the front lawn is a LOT like how he surrenders to his parents that fateful Halloween night of 1963.

The director has said there will be a time jump in the 3rd film, but I’m hoping that happens later in the film instead of right off the bat. I’d love the idea of a trilogy that all takes place on one night, leading to sunrise on November 1st. Imagine how cool of an intro it would be, to see a Burning Pumpkin, as snow flakes slowly begin to fall and extinguish the flames, the flakes melting and running down the pumpkin, and freezing into little ice sickles over the eyes and mouth.

What I love that this film seems to be aiming towards is the possible simplicity of Michael’s motive to the original film. Home. Michael was home when he saw Laurie sliding mail under Michael’s home thus disliked that which caused him to take out her friends one by one as a cruel joke until her got to her. Fast forward 40 years later & Dr.Sartain setting the bus crash up & putting Michael on Laurie’s path, Michael was just on a killing spree headed towards his house as can be seen in the flashback from Halloween Kills. He just wants to be home.

The way I interpreted the ending is this, the reason Michael was able to just show up behind Karen at the was actually explained at the very start of the film. When young Hawkins first sees Michael and he vanishes. His footprints just stop. He disappeared. Establishing he's supernatural. That's why he can just get right up after being shot several times (again) and having the shit beat out of him, then appear behind Karen. He's more than man and has a spectral nature about him. Although that would make me wonder why he allowed himself to be captured in 78. But would also solve that odd part in the original film, where Laurie is staring out her window and see's Michael in her yard, never taking her eyes off of him and he just vanishes. (Although he does disappear and just kind of materialize in other parts of the original, just that time someone was staring right at him.)
@jacebales29513 жыл бұрын
If Michael Myers is a 'spectral' being then I'm officially checked out on the franchise 🤣🤣🤣. I assume he got in through the back door that was left unlocked (even though that doesn't really make sense). It's better than him being 'ghosts and goblins' though. Jesus Christ...

@@jacebales2951 actually he most likely did get through the back door, sit was established with big John that he left it unlocked. Police and ambulance were just getting there and out the front. @beelzeboo3 жыл бұрын
Its not only a Psycho reference (very much more on the psycho end) but it’s also a reference to Judith. I thought it was perfectly necessary considering: A: she’s the only victim (in this timeline) to unmask him since Laurie Strode in the original. Making herself a personal target. B: she not only unmasked him, but lead him into a trap so overwhelming, that he had to go limp for a moment to get out of it. C: We are never shown the backyard of the Myers house beyond what we can see out the backdoor when Little John goes and checks it. We can assume by the time Myers finished murdering the crowd (1 block away), he cut thru the streets again (out of sight of Police) and walked through the backyard, through the dining room, up the stairs, and right into his room where Karen was standing…… - That or he ‘teleports’ like we see him do in the first movie.
@TheCleanRapper933 жыл бұрын
@@beelzeboo yeah I got that they were doing a call back to Judith. As soon as I saw the close up with her teeth and the quick cuts I knew it was Psycho. I just didn’t want Karen to go. She did trap Michael twice and I’m sure he wasn’t happen about it.

The phone call scene would have been a great cliffhanger lead to anticipation for Halloween Ends. They could always use it as the intro for Halloween Ends. There’s been rumors about incorporating the whole Covid situation and other things from the past few years. I don’t think they’d use it for the politics of it but more like the isolation. What may be controversial is that my theory is that Halloween Ends will be a road trip kind of cross country story. With the owners dead and gone back he towns people finally set fire to the Myers house, with no place to return to after his Kills , Michael takes a rampage beyond. Laurie and the remaining survivors follow Michael’s trail which would end in Salem, Ma, Michael’s original birthplace before his parents moved to Haddonfield. They could either have it that his kills are constant or pick up close to Halloween, either way, if not Salem, why not end the movie in a place where the Halloween tradition was born.

@09:28 _"Every one's problem w/the ending is it just happened so fast, like how did he_ (Michael) _get back into the house...?"_ I mean, I just thought of it as, it's Michael's house, he knows how to get to & from/into & out of w/out anyone seeing him better than anyone else would. He was able to sneak around the whole neighborhood relatively unnoticed throughout the OG _Halloween_ & i just figured he did it again, when everyone was distracted by Karen, Allyson, & the crime-scene, so he went around behind the house & went in via the back, or side door, or a window, & that's how nobody saw him. I mean, he was less than a block away. Plus i dunno if people are aware of this, but there's this thing called _editing,_ so the amount of time it takes him to get to his house after he fucking butchers everyone isn't like real-time - it could've taken him 10 minutes for all we know. What an odd thing to bother people; the fucking guy's been shot more times than 2pac & barely seems phased by it, & ya'll are wondering how he got to his house so fast & why no-one saw him? This was an *incredible* sequel, to both the original, & the 2018 film, & 1 of (if not *_the)_* best films of the entire franchise - let yourself enjoy it, & stop trying to conjure up reasons to dislike it!

@legendary.super.shannon96993 жыл бұрын
@John Johnson So you don't think there would've been a single instance w/in that time frame, from the moment Michael finishes killing everyone, (minus the invariable amount of time it takes him to get back to his house) to the time he made it up the stairs to stab Karen, that he could've, in some manner, have used to've slipped past everyone? You don't think there's a single window that he could climb into, that maybe would bypass him having to use the stairs, or any possible way he could get to his sisters bedroom w/out being seen? Like, i know it would _appear_ as if he'd have to use the stairs, but there are ways in every home to get from 1 place to another w/out being seen - My home for instance, there are several windows & a back door in my back yard that connect to the 2nd story, there's 2nd story window that's tall enough to reach from the ground in the front yard for example. My point is, there are simple, non-movie breaking explanations around this problem that one doesn't have to use a supernatural method to bypass simple logic.

@@JabrenHarris98 I say trash because it wasn’t really that enjoyable for me. There were so many cringy moments, some of the acting was so over the top, almost every single character seemed extremely overly dumb, there was way too much comedy (that wasn’t even funny), there was so much build up for the kills but a lot of the actual kills were just quick and over, the CGI was terrible (knife going through the male nurse’s eye), and I didn’t like the ending at all (the slow-mo killing, nobody shooting the head, the window scene, etc).

I can see this dude's point, at times it seemed like a 'Michaels greatest hits' jam .. Didn't have any substance to it like 2018 did, the flash backs were the most interesting part for me... It suffers like many sequels of a trilogy do, hopefully if they get Halloween ends right it will narrow the scope down an get us all reinvested in the story again an seem like 1 long 330 min well rounded story

I liked the movie. Some of the characters from the original movie that died in this one, I think should’ve either had a better ending to their character arc or have them survive for the next movie and perhaps kill them there. The ending just had me asking myself, “Why did it end the way it did?” I don’t mind Karen dying, I just don’t understand the setup of her death. Why was she able to imagine Michael as a kid if she didn’t know what he looked like as a kid? Why did that make her or what made her want to go inside the house and look out the window? How did Michael get back to the house without being seen by all those people? It just doesn’t add up but I guess that’s the point of this ending to have people asking questions. The alternate ending sounds cool, however it doesn’t mean it could be better or more fitting for this movie. I guess that all depends on how the alternate ending will look once it’s released. I like the idea of if you were to end this series, it’s gotta end with the two main characters that started it all. Can’t wait to see the new Scream movie that comes out next year.

I saw the movie Thursday night and I've been on cloud 9 STILL! I love and adore this movie. I'm truly looking forward to the spoiler review stream! As for my two cents on the ending, I feel while the alternative ending sounds dope as hell and it would be cool to see not just the callback to the phone call in the first movie, but to see Laurie react to Karen's death. But what I do love about the final shot being of Michael, it symboized what we all predicted. Michael Won. Also a question for everyone, I saw someone point out Karen's death reminded them of Psycho. But for me, this is what blew my mind personally. Did I predict Karen's death? Yes. BUT her dying VERY closely to how Judith died after Karen's earlier dialogue... That make me perk out of my seat! I truly didn't expect that...

I’m still trying to figure out the significance of the window in the Myers house. It’s like they took Loomis’ anecdotes of MM staring out of windows and looking through walls and made it more metaphorical…but for what? It’s stupefying. 🧐
@LA_HA3 жыл бұрын
I kinda think they're trying to understand Myers. It's like when early humans used to make up stories and lore about the things they couldn't explain. We live in an age of trying to understand killers and all that. Remember Karen's speech about knowing the world is really filled with goodness and rainbows in H18? What we've been seeing is that everyone who tries to understand Myers ends up toes up. But, as Loomis kept warning everyone, he's not human, so there is No understanding him any more than there's a chance of Myers understanding others aside from how to torment and hunt them. Karen refused to fully understand her mother's point of view, so when she tried to do what the newbie deputy did, think of him as a little boy in a man's body, his friend paid the price. And by trying to look out the window to understand Myers, Karen found him, then died.

Considering all of the previous sequels before 2018 were dismissed, he really didn't have a long history of terrorizing that town. Why the average Haddonfield resident was willing to hunt him down was a bit puzzling to me, along with all the "evil" references, and the whole window thing. Total fan of the original, and the series as a whole, but a bit disappointed in this one.
@tajcee3 жыл бұрын
@@timmccue9407 Yeah it’s a total stretch to imagine that a town would still continue to be reeling after only 3 victims were killed that Halloween night 40 years on. If they hadn’t retconned all films after Halloween II, then I’d be more inclined to believe it. But as it stands these new films aren’t giving us anything new, and I think it’s odd that David Gordon Green is saying the old films don’t count after ‘78 but continues to cherry pick story beats and instill easter eggs from those films… 🧐

If Karen was being stabbed to death, won't the final shot cut to Allison hearing her mom's screams? She was sitting out in front steps when Karen went into the house and I know there are police and ambulance sirens so that could be a noise factor but also this is happening right in front of the window as well so someone had to look up to see what is going on.
@masterofthefresh3 жыл бұрын
You guys touched on it but my issue with the ending is how in the hell did Michael get back in the house without anyone seeing him? With all the police and EMT's being out front. Even if he went in through the back door how did no one see him walk past them to go up the stairs? You have to walk past the front door to get to the stairs and the front door was open. If the alternate ending explains that then I would be satisfied.

I’ve seen the movie three times and have disliked it a little more with each viewing. Besides Michael being awesome in this, there’s nothing here. The dialogue is abysmal - everybody talks like Loomis without being Loomis. The people of Haddonfield suck. Bad comedy. The movie uses people’s knowledge of the erased sequels as shortcuts so they don’t have to build up returning characters. The flashbacks retcon the original movie’s ending from “Michael could be anywhere” to “Michael went to chill out at his house.” Why didn’t Michael have any bullet holes in the flashback? Why didn’t Allyson tell her mom that Michael wasn’t actually after Laurie which was a major ordeal and reveal for several of the major characters later on? Why was everybody unsure if Tivoli was Michael when the news broadcasted everybody who was missing from the inmate bus including Michael? How did Hawkins survive stabs in the neck and then getting run over - is he as immortal as Michael is? The two Johns were an annoying stereotype. Nurse Marion went out like an idiot. They got fancy with Karen’s kill because it’s basically a shot for shot remake of the shower scene in Psycho, but why didn’t anybody hear Karen’s screams from downstairs where everybody is? Horrible script. The fans complained about the Rob Zombie characters and peanut butter on my p*nis dad but are accepting some of the truly dumbest and embarrassing characters in this. Every other Halloween movie is allowed to be criticized for elements outside of Michael, but this one shouldn’t because they got Michael right? If Michael wasn’t awesome in this movie, it would have been a complete disaster in my opinion. I’m not as annoyed by the ending as some other people, but Michael is obviously supernatural and has probably always been supernatural. Loomis says he has the Devil’s eyes - once you enter spirituality and morality, you’re discussing Hell and Satan. You can’t say he’s amoral and emotionless while also saying he has black eyes and show that he obviously experiences sadism. His evil is powered by that level of darkness which is supernatural AF. They should have shot him in the head and have him still get up like The Undertaker. It would have been an even bigger surprise moment and it would have made the flashback feel even more important because that was what Loomis was going to do and he was stopped. At least it would have been in vain. Kills showed me that I’ve been entirely too harsh on Halloween 2018 over the past couple years.

If they would have used the alternate ending that would havr painted themselves in the corner. ENDS takes a 4 year time jump so can you imagine "I'm coming for you Michael... but I'm gonna wait 4 years for dramatic effect." I think they could have had him kill her then pick up the phone and maybe insert shots of all around Haddonfield of empty places we've been (like they ended the first one) cutting them back and forth between like playground... Laurie on the phone, myers house, Laurie on the phone, biker bar, the phone dangling where you can see her (out of focus) crying in her hospital bed and you hear the breathing the whole time then end.

The ending was the one thing I was most disappointed in. Knowing that Halloween Ends takes place 4 years later I’m asking wtf happens to Michael since he’s in the Meyers house at the end and Allison and all those people are right outside? It felt like a full on rushed movie despite it being delayed around a year. The firefighter fight scene was basically all shown in the trailer, I was hoping there was more to it than that. The only scene that didn’t feel rushed was when he attacked Lindsey at the park and when Big John and Little John were killed. Loved the brutal Michael but dissatisfied with feeling this movie had more to be desired. Also the script ending of Michael breathing in Karen’s phone and Laurie telling Michael to run because she’s coming for him would have just made all those other shortcomings not seem as bad.
