Thank you for your helpful and informative videos. I'm very new to working in clay -- currently taking a class. Just love your manner of explaining things, including the fact that it is REAL and unedited. Especially like the fact that you give the "whys" for all the things you are doing, including various options folks could use. Kudos from a fellow USAF veteran! ~~Debz

Thanks Jessica for your fun, lively, and informative videos. I just watched transferring preprinted decals, Mishima & sprig molds which was my favorite so far. I like how detailed your instruction is & suggesting vendors for specific products & tools is also helpful. I also like that you allow spontaneity in your videos, because clay is a very plastic & expressive medium. I was a ceramics major years ago at Cal State University Long Beach but had to go into business admin to be self sufficient. Now retired, returning to clay full time (except also perform on Bassoon in a community band). I live half year in FL & half in NC Blueridge Mtns. Looking forward to watching more from you. Good job!

I left you a comment or question about your roller, but I found it. Thanks though. I want to sculpt a flat or partially flat sculpt of my grandson. I am a painter, I have not worked with clay at all, I have looked at a lot of your videos and others, I love how you teach. Here is what I need to know what type of clay do I need, I am buying the same electric kiln you have and clay roller. I have the tools lots of them, I have a feeling these tools will be like my brushes, where I have a lot of them I just can't enough. 2nd question will there be instructions on the temperature setting and anything else I might need to know (I don't know what I don't know). Thank you for your wonderful and inspiring videos. Sincerely, Lilly

I love your work it's beautiful and something I've always wanted to learn. I'm doing Christmas ornaments with paper clay today and was watching how I could decorated & color them when I can across your channel. I would really love to learn, but not quite sure how to get started. I have Multiple Sclerosis and I can't drive I need something to keep my mind and hands busy so I'm home during day unit my husband gets home around 5:30. With MS the saying goes if you don't use it you'll lose it, but sometimes you still lose it ,and you never know when or where it's going to effect what part of your body next. The thing about it is you can't get over stressed or over worked or hot. I am having Trimblers in my hands and I need something that I can concentrate on the and try to keep my hand -eye coronation busy. My husband made his mom some really nice set of vegetables to hang in her kitchen and a elephant cookie jar well that one was kind of iffy to figure out its has a short stubby noise. Lol. He took art in college he enjoyed it. So know you have my life history. How did you get started? It looks like you've done it a while just by watching you I'm so glad I came across your site. Thank you and I pray you and your family has a Very Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year!

Hi Jessica, I should have watched this video before I did my mug. So, I have a carved mug but didn't put the wax on before hand. Is it ok to put the black underglaze to fill my carvings now, wipe it off and then clear glaze it? Or did I ruin it by not waxing first?
@JessicaPutnamPhillips
@JessicaPutnamPhillips 5 жыл бұрын
You did not ruin it.Yes, you can apply the underglaze and then wipe back the excess and it will stay in the lines. It may not be a crisp as it would have been with wax but I am sure it will still be amazing! :) Jess

I realize that your focus is your website (which is great, btw), but as many products as you use, you should sign up for affiliate marketing. That way, you’ll make a little off purchases of the products you recommend AND people won’t have to keep asking you EXACTLY what you’re using. Just something to consider. Thank you for such great content!

Nice so if you want to engrave directly on your ceramics not toner transfer of an image on tissue paper there is a way to color your engraved lines easily. Wax is key though i am still unsure what materials interms of glazes , inks ...etc are usable for edible dishware /pot ware. If your just using your pots for show or art decor or plants its not going to matter but eating on it i am still iffy on it.

That’s awesome.. Thank You! 😊😍just wondering .. would it be ok to underglaze another color and then coat with wax and then carve and then do a darker color for the lines? I would think it’s ok as long as the underglaze is dried before putting on the wax resist? Thank You! 😊😍

I want to paint a sink. I moved into an old house, and at first I thought to replace it, but I am not made of money, I am a crafter, so I decided I want to paint the old sink. I have been searching all my options, porcelain paint pens, and paint, is what I decided, I started looking at all the designs for painted sinks, loved them, my sister gave me a coloring book, that had really cool designs in them, so I want to pick something. I can not put the sink in the oven, so it will have to dry, but I thought I could purchase some small tile and paint them in several color of blue and silver or gold or both, in solid and may a print, to match the sink.

Thank you so much for simplifying this technique. I've watched other videos where they scrape the underglaze off, after they carved in their designs, and that seems like it not only scratches the pottery piece, but it also diminishes the design and fine lines. LOVE the idea of just waxing the whole piece and then underglazing after it's been fired. Or I guess you don't have to use underglazes, you could use regular glazes. Do you use underglazes and then fire, and then clear and do a third firing? Or do you underglaze and then clear in the same process? Thanks. Loved your video!!!

I'll Bisque fire this week hopefully, but now am curious on adding the color~!! Is that something you may be able to share on a video...I was thinking just 1-2 coats of underglaze on my doodles with a clear glaze over it...is that the right idea? Good Luck in the Snow Storm....I'm in DownEast Maine & we're supposed to get clobbered this week too ~!!

I am not Jessica but I have seen a lot of her videos so I will try to explain what she normally does. After the fireball glaze is laid in the carved lines, she cleans the pot and fires it. This way the wax resist melts off. After the first fire she dilutes underglaze colours and she uses them to add colours to the black pattern, like a watercolour. she has said this is quite a time consuming exercise, but worth it. then she puts a clear glaze on the piece and fires it again.

@@Elleffe is that 2nd firing at Cone 6 so you are using underglazes to color, but Cone 6 clear to cover all?
@Elleffe
@Elleffe 4 жыл бұрын
Anne Rinaldo that’s right! I have used this technique both at cone 6 and at cone 05 (with different clays and clear glazes obviously 😊) Once the pot is bisque fired and it has the black lines of the drawing outline, you use diluted underglazes to obtain a sort of water color effect and then you use a clear glaze (best if zinc free) It looks lovely!
