I always see these molds and the plate molds and wonder why we are striving for perfect looking pieces. I usually tell people if they want a perfect mug go to Walmart or Dollar General… But I guess the trend is going to have to blow right on past me lol I’m gonna continue to make imperfect pieces probably sell a whole lot less of them than you lol… Jessica, I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos and your work is always beautiful…🤗

Do you have any advice on how to make them stackable to make storage easier?
@maivaiva14122 күн бұрын
that's almost big enough of a coffee mug for me! all jokes aside, beautiful work!
@jadoremakeup14222 күн бұрын
Do you sell your creations? I need a flat bottom mug like the one in this video. The cheap drink warmer that I have doesn't work unless the mug bottom is completely flat. All mugs that I find have a foot, as it were, or a concave bottom that keeps the bottom of the mug slightly elevated off the warmer plate.

Jessica- this is awesome- thank you! So to be clear- this is to exhaust out the off gassing fumes? This doesn’t lower the temp of the kiln? Kindly, Heather
@JessicaPutnamPhillips3 күн бұрын
Yes, it will not lower the temp of the kiln. It will just exhaust the off gassing.☺️

Thanks for checking out my other videos! I always appreciate advice. As for this rim I’ll be thinning it down a bit more once the mug has set up to leather hard and will not warp.☺️
@JMClay4 күн бұрын
Love the cherries! Maybe try a thinner rim. Take fake sips till it feels just right. I only wish someone had told me when I started making mugs. It was my husband that mentioned how square the rim was. He is my mug reviewer lol. When I try new things I test them all on him. Not that he minds at all.
@chowfun19762 күн бұрын
Serious question. Why is a thicker rim worse than a thinner one?

Love all your videos and since I was just given a box of China paints I found this very informative and encouraging. I’ve worked in ceramics for years but always afraid to try China painting. Any info I got previously made it seem too hard and complicated. I’m excited to try these out. They appear to be from the 90’s so I will play and experiment. Thank you so much. ❤

Thank you for sharing. You are a great instructor. I low fire stoneware clay at 06, high fire at cone 6, should I fire the decal at 05 or can I do 06? Since you have an awesome pie plate with the decal in the center of the plate, I just want to confirm that decals are food safe. Thank you.
@JessicaPutnamPhillips4 күн бұрын
You’ll want to fire the decal on low fire clay around cone 08. Fired-on.com has some great resources for what temp to fire clays at with decals.☺️

Preparing for Mishima technique. Carve design through the wax, apply underglaze which sinks into greenware through carving and is resisted by the wax elsewhere. Wax burns off in the bisque firing leaving the design.

Of ALL the images you could have used to demonstrate this process, did you have to choose an image of a soldier shooting up an Arab neighbourhood? All decorated in flouncy pink petals and frills. Simply deranged.

Great episode (as always) and happy new year!!! I have a question about underglaze on top of another underglaze…I am wanting to do a white “background” area on greenware using speedball white UG 😮, wait for it to dry, and then a green fern overtop using speedball medium green. Then…my plan is to bisque, and then dip into a non-moving zinc free clear glaze. Will the UG’s be ok? Will the white background under the fern affect the green fern? Thanks!🙏🏻
@JessicaPutnamPhillips12 күн бұрын
They should be fine. If you are worried you can always do what is called a “sinter” firing. It’s where you do a 2nd bisque fire to set the underglaze.
