Halo 2 e3 2003 demo video. This is the first video that I saw of Halo 2s E3 Demo. Not only is it the demo, but it is not direct feed so you can hear all of the audience reactions which made it better, for me at least. It took me a while to find this.

Honestly, I know this footage came out almost 14 years ago now, but I remember playing the fist Halo game as a kid and loving it and getting a demo disk with this gameplay footage on it and going crazy from just how amazing this footage looked at the time. I couldn't wait to get my hands on this game and unfortunately, it got delayed quite a few times and it only created more hype for the game. I know that Halo 2 had a disappointing cliffhanger at the end, but the rest of the game was amazing for the time (even if we got to play as the Arbiter more than the Chief. I know how much that pissed people off, but looking at it now, Bungie was trying to build a bigger universe by having the Arbiter as a playable and having the player learn more about the world of Halo. Halo 2. To me at least, is honestly one of the best games ever made in my 22 years of life and likely, will always be one of the best games ever made.

Interesting little fact, much of halo 3 was actually going to be the halo 2 campaign, but time and hardware constraints made them decide to cut it out for the next game. As well, quite a few levels were completely scrapped. one example is what one of the developers described as, driving a big forerunner tank though underwater tubes in a high-speed chase against the clock while fighting though hoards of food. Rip great level idea.

The closest modern example I can think of was Mass Effect 3's first announcement at the 2010 Spike VGM awards. Then there was a 4 month gap of nothingness... then Game Informer's April 2011 issue published the first Mass Effect 3 article and the Internet went wild. Some dude on GameFAQs named Freedan the Eternal posted the first scans of the magazine on the ME3 board and his Photobucket account crashed the next day because official gaming journalism sites were hotlinking to it and using his info (and his bandwidth) to write their articles lmao.

I know that this demo was totally scrapped and was essentially false advertising, but regardless, it showed how much passion was put into Halo. Bungie was very passionate about Halo - it was a game that they loved making, and it showed. Meanwhile, Halo under 343i feels so.... corporate and manufactured. Like, it has no soul or identity of its own. I mean, Halo under Bungie was a very disruptive franchise that went against the status quo and set trends in gaming, changing the landscape of gaming forever. In contrast, Halo under 343i follows trends and tries so hard to be like other franchises in some misguided hope of trying to appeal to its competition's audience and causing huge division within its own audience. Today's Halo Infinite trailer was really disappointing and you can see how much they're taking bits and pieces from other games and franchises rather than do their own thing and evolve the game from what made it unique. And that Brute at the end, it really felt like a cheap knockoff of 343 trying to add in their own Thanos.

It’s not a rumor, the MCC team has been working with modders to restore cut content to Halo 1 and 2 - the dig site project. It’s not an EXACT replica since it’s being made in the retail Halo 2 engine, but it looks remarkably close to this. Yeah, because Halo 2 didn't nearly fall apart during production. And yeah, this demo CLEARLY didn't just blatantly do what Killzone 2 and Aliens: Colonial Marines did and ran on above-spec hardware just to make it look better. The final product had a good chunk of the endgame cut due to being over-ambitious, just like Syndicate's 2012 reboot, which also had to drop competitive multiplayer to finish on time. And really, the biggest changes they added were just dual wielding and vehicle stealing (which did alter things but I've seen games with twice as many ideas be called "generic", a term that has lost all meaning as it's just a cheap cop-out for people who can't be bothered). So no, things have not dramatically changed, even though I agree things have shifted, they've just become more obvious in most cases.

Shortly after this demo, Bungie realized they had overestimated what their current engine was capable of, and had no way to fix it. They ended up scrapping everything and starting over from scratch, going full crunch until release.

I'm kind of glad they used another graphics engine and changed the feel of the game. The animations and "flow" of the character movement reminds me a lot of Halo 1 (how he throws grenades, how the ghost handles, FOV, etc.). I love Halo: CE don't get me wrong but Halo 2 just has better animations and handling. Still playing the campaign today, and it's still my favorite Halo. Multiplayer wise it has to be 3 cause of forge. I have no hope for the Halo story after 4, but perhaps multiplayer is more easily rectified. Hopefully Halo 5 will have more of a Halo feel to it then Halo 4. I found the Search and Destroy-like gamemode to be balanced and fun, so perhaps 343 is doing a better job. Only time will tell though

Hunter Baker But i've played the MP beta and at E3, i am safe to say that halo's MP is back to its roots and is alot of fun! Story is going to be amazing since its the longest in the series and is bringing fan favorites, huge eviroments, rich lore, destructible enviroments, multiple routes in a level, more vehicles, more weapons, ect. Halo5 is going to be one of the greats.

Watching this video brings me back to my childhood and early teenage years... Those were the days where I really, really enjoyed playing videogames... I was 12 when I got my xbox back in 2002, and Halo blew me away. If there's a generation I feel identified with it's got to be this one. I have so many good memories from that generation: Halo 1 & 2, Blinx 1 & 2, Project Gotham Racing 1 & 2, Forza Motorsport, GT3: A spec, Jet Set Radio Future, Final Fantasy X, Shadow of the Colossus... man, I coud go on forever... I still play videogames, but despìte how good they are or they will be in the future, I will never feel the joy from those times.

Not only that, but so much cut content are already in the game and unused. I can mention many examples but i think high charity (2nd last mission) had the most biggest cut. Missing warthog run, leftover sections on the map that wasn't used. Plenty of unused dialogue and some of the dialogue includes a section that sounds like Cortana was trying to open a door while you needed to hold your position from incoming flood. I'm almost certain that the long elevator rides in some levels would be shorter and have cut sections in between.
