The tiny differences in the maps are so fascinating. Most notable for me is the turrets have an idle animation on Snowbound here, and the scanners are sticking higher out of the ground

Halo 2 had a lean at some point in development, but I think it was only for looking around corners. Seems they tried reimplementing it for 3, but didn't figure out something they were happy with until Destiny.

crazy af what an alpha build from a AAA company looks like. The game looks to be in it's final year of development when in reality, they probably had this build out a couple months after starting Halo 3

think alot of halo 3's development involved porting/ updating halo 2 assets for the halo 3 engine, hence why we can see h2 viewmodel arms

Huh? An Alpha build is typically when a game's core is complete, or mostly complete. The campaign was very much playable at this state, and the multiplayer was of course in the state you see here. Yes, there's still a lot of placeholder stuff, but to get this far in a couple months is impossible. This build was indeed less than a year away from release.

Not sure if this is a reach, but the icon on the HUD for the missile launcher you picked up looks a whole lot like the base models for the rocket launchers in Destiny (i.e. Gjallarhorn; Harbinger). Maybe that’s where they got the original inspiration?

because its the first publicly known alpha build i think. images of it leaked in 2007 and earlier this year lander showed it on his twitter. its infamous because when it was being tested on, it would be visible on your xbl profile as "pimps at sea" think theres a screenshot of major nelson playing it online.
