I think the saddest part of the end was the fact that Master Chief, meant to be empowering and able to do anything, designed as a master soldier, was stripped of any feeling of control. The only thing he couldn't do was save her, and left him powerless under the thought that he could only watch

Reason why I love Gavin's music. He puts so many things into the lyrics of his songs from the games that ACTUALLY make sense with the song itself. He's not just mushing a bunch of references into it. That's talent.

I do like how the celtic arrangement in the middle of the song is reminiscent of Halo: Combat Evolved. The main theme, in particular. It's a fantastic mix of upbeat and empowering with morose and depressing, video and music both. I can't say I've been a staunch follower of the Halo series, but the closure between Master Chief and Cortana's relationship was very heart-wrenching. Gavin captured that in both lyric and melody. Reclaimer, I can say, does it all justice.

Cpt. Gavorn That is fair enough. It had to end some time though right? Now we get to see chief kick some ass with blue team on the offensive. Although making every second UNSC soldier a spartan IV isn't something I was too keen on. I think that seems to be getting reigned in a bit though.

The writing of "Reclaimer" and "Friends to Foes" is stronger then in the actual games.. Reclaimer is from Cortana's perspective to John: "You were there by my side A friend through it all Now I'm beaten and bruised And I'm falling apart Though I tear and divide I won't let you fall There is blood pumping through Your machine of a heart" And it's just so good when that same chorus is repeated at the end of "Friends to Foes", but from John to Cortana: "I was there by your side... I was there by your side..." I just love that detail! Can't wait for an appearance of the motif in the Halo 6 song! "We were there, side by side!"

I mean, who would remember them? Who met them, and is still alive? Cortana knows *of* them, she picked the delivery boy, but she stayed in a canister on noble six's back the whole trip to the Autumn. Halsey's about the only person who would still remember them directly, and she's got no reason to bring them up just about, anywhere. Jun's still around and training Spartans, and I'm sure his team gets a mention around him every once and a while, but there's no way that's not at least a little hard to think about for him. And the people of Reach put up a statue to remember them, after the war.

Awesome song but depressing at the same time. I feel really bad for MC he seems so... empty at the end of Halo 4. Not that I can blame him.
@theravenousrabbit367111 жыл бұрын
The reason why he is empty is because Halo 4 played the whole 'who is the real machine, Cortana or Master chief' thing and clearly MC feels like nothing but a weapon. That is most likely why he went into stasis after Halo 3, he felt like he was a machine of war, and hence had no reason to be around during times of peace.
@SasukeTheCursed11 жыл бұрын
louie wallenberg Well technically speaking he sort of is. He was made to be that way from the start all Spartans were. Of course being the best of them only reinforced that point of view. He wasn't the one who originally decided that cryo was the best option his superiors did that to him before the start of Halo 1 so that he would be around at the critical moment. But after all that Cortana changed that point of view. Slowly and subtly they grew close and her death is what seemed to finally break his former mentality. If I had to guess its the reason he is supposedly wondering around alone in Halo 5
@danielhaire667710 жыл бұрын
Enuma Elish The Spartans were raised to be weapons. Take the kid soldiers from the movie Soldier, add in untested medical augmentations that killed nearly thirty percent of the Spartan kids it was used upon and a power armor that KILLED its test pilot. Dr Halsey who created them may have provided humanity with a weapon that could win against the Covenant (even though they weren't the original target), but she was still a monster. Cortana may have been dedicated to the mission as much as John 117 but at least she and before her the other Spartans, kept him grounded to his humanity.
@drizzt7dourden710 жыл бұрын
Daniel Haire and there is the question again ^^ is halsey a monster? on the first glance it seems to be a no brainer. BUT if you dig deeper and think about it the answer gets less claer (at least for me) what makes her a "monster"? 1. she took kids at the age of 6 to make them recruits. ok that is bad (10-14 years earlyer than normal recruiting/forced recruting usualy happens) 2. she used partly untested augmentations on them BUT: 1. she made them Strong, inteligent, creative and willfull 2. she gave them the means to survive even the worst hardships and protected them whereever and however she could 3. she gave them a new family 4. she saved thousends of soldiers and billions of civilians by sacreficing a few dozn (not to mention the fact that thanks to her MC was able to stop the halos from going of and whiping all live from the galaxy...) 5. she gave hope back to the humans 6. she made cortana 7. thanks to her work the humans and the elits allied ... ohhh and the Spartens didnt even came close to a real mission until they were like 16 and what did sche get for saving the universe? she gets send to jail for the rest of her life and was branded a monster. and on the other hand the generals who send thousends of man to get slaughtert are "heros". WTF?
@lukahayward217010 жыл бұрын
drizzt7dourden7 If I kill someone no matter the reasons, be they self defense or in defense of another innocent then I have still committed a murder ( even if the I do not go to jail). It doesn't matter that Halsey saved all of the life in the galaxy she still committed a morally corrupt and blatantly illegal act in her creation of the Spartan II's and for that she must be punished. The ends may have justified the means but that doesn't mean she is not guilty of a heinous crime. The generals worked within the boundries of the law and so are not technically guilty of any actually crime. Though I agree with you that Halsey does a great service that does not mean that she should not suffer the results of her actions in ruining the lives of those children.

Jake Tiggerson And might I ask what is wrong with you good sir. All i said was that it was obvious that this song was from Cortana's point of view. It even has quotes of Cortana as lyrics in the song. For example: "Don't make a promise you can't keep." "Can't fix this maddess it runs to deep." It even has lines about how Cortana was suffering form her Rampancy. "Though I tear and dived." "I can feel the rampancy piercing my mind." and the part I feel brings this song together. "You were there by my side a friend through it all. Now I'm beaten and bruised, and I'm falling a part." Pretty much this song is almost like her final farewell to Chief. Even though she was dying she would support Chief. She conceder him a friend, and more then a SPARTAN, she viewed him as a human being. I like this song, and to me it is kind of obvious that it is from Cortana point of view. It a great song, but also sad one. It is also my opinion one of the best showings of her character at the end.

I think it was the worst halo as it completely abandoned everything halo was about.

The campaign was garbage. It was the world's most generic storyline, the weapons felt wrong, and the enemies weren't fun.

Enthused_Llama World's most generic storyline? No Mario has the world's most generic storyline. Halo 4's storyline wasn't generic.

Don't listen to the people saying your new stuff isn't good Gavin. This is an awesome song, Distant Honor is some of your best work. Keep on being awesome.

So I've been listening to this song for years now and it suddenly took a whole new meaning. It's actually a very powerfull break up song if you can't cope with the loss of your loved one.

I got the impression form a comment on one of your other songs that you weren't going to do a Halo 4 song. Thanks! Fantastic as always.

Your songs are the only reason I can keep my sanity during Crunch Time (overtime work). Best of luck with getting rid of tinnitus and may you soon release yet another masterpiece.

I wouldn't say this is your best work, but I like it. Also, thanks for making a halo song. The wait was worth it.

This song got me started on Halo. Years ago I made a comment here because the way you described the story really made me want to experience it - the Chief's desperate battle for his only friend. What a premise! Yesterday, that "journey" finally concluded. I had to wait for the MCC to come to PC because I just couldn't get into console controls, I played through the whole series so I would be able to understand what Chief and Cortana have been through and how it has made them bond (what you mention in the song as "You've been there by my side, a friend through it all"). A few days ago, Halo 4 finally launched on Steam. And you know what? Your song was way better than the game. Leaving aside the way they executed gameplay and remarking in passing only that the main story wasn't compelling, the whole arc of John and between him and Cortana was disappointing. It was such an interesting theme, actually, the supersoldier grappling with what's left of his humanity in the face of impending loss. Yet for the most part, this theme was only mentioned verbally at the beginning and end but you didn't "feel" it. It wasn't expressed in the action. Still an awesome song.
