Rest in peace metro exodus animator Andrii Korzinkin, also known as Nizrok, who passed away in the Ukraine war, I started playing the series again a week before the news was announced, as it is a game that doesn't feel like a lifeless husk like most games nowadays, so hearing the news was quite a shock even though I didn't know the person before the news, it is sad to hear that another talent has left.

January 1st, 2024 was the day i arrived in Honolulu, coming from Wisconsin. If I remained in the Midwest and I wound up on the street the wrong night, I could have frozen to death. Now I'm still homeless but I'll die another way. This song is perfect for celebrating new beginnings. I now am employed and in a 24 hour shelter. Gav. Ty so much for doing what you do. Obviously you didn’t have me, or my situation in mind when you wrote this, but this song holds a special place in my heart and always will. *Sings (hopefully in tune)* I wanna breathe the Pacific air, I wanna feel the beach under my feet and leave the misery behind. I want to touch the palm trees there, rest my head under warm skies so fair, and never worry of the cold's embrace. Hawaii sunnnnnriiiisssse. It's soooo so pure. We know things will beee okay, good people are here. Free, unconfined. (Not perfect but you get the idea lol.)

"We burned the outside, took to the gloom" "We Learn the outside, theres hope out here" Ties in to the last reference to The Day The World died where humanity finally stepped out of the gloom, finally seeing it for what it is and have actually found hope in the once burned outside.

I remember when this song first came out. Wasn't going to listen because I hadn't played the game (still haven't). But I kept seeing it, so I broke down and clicked on it... boy am I glad I did. This song hits me so deeply and so personally. It's not my usual kind of music, like much of what Gav puts out, but there's something so special in his work. This song in particular has become my favorite song. I tear up at the end. So many people find themselves in desperate situations they feel like they can't escape from. This song inspires hope. At least for me. It makes me feel like freedom is just a little farther. Just keep moving. Nothing can pull you back. And when you are free, you can listen to this and remember how far you've come. And the video... damn, it's so good! I realize he's just splicing stuff together from cutscenes and promotional material, but it still amazes me.

I really enjoy how you and Dan Bull used a bit of continuity with your older Metro songs, making previous lyrics have new meaning. You gave it a more positive take than him, with your glass half full twist on previously dark lyrics, he did it the other way showing how the characters learned that Moscow was a lost hope.
@johnj.spurgin70375 жыл бұрын
That line, "there's hope out here," just just has so much weight on it. The callback to "The Day the World Died" and the search for a future once again, not just a slow decay in a rotting metro, but the hope of a future... it brings tears to my eyes every time. You nailed it Gavin, you couldn't have played the heart's-a-chords and better. And yes, I'm keeping that pun.

I've always been a fan of the little references to previous songs that you make for the same series (Wake The White Wolf/The Path, etc.), but I'd have to say that the lyrical callbacks to The Day The World Died ("the future's a tunnel stretching endlessly"/"and the future's a railroad stretching endlessly" and "the day the world died, we kindled doom, we burned the outside, took to the gloom"/"I watch the sun rise, in skies so clear, we learn the outside, there's hope out here") is probably my favorite since it provides such an amazing counterpoint across the games. 2033 and Last Light had such a dour, defeatist tone where survival is the only thing mankind has to look forward to, whereas Exodus gives something back; hope. Hope for a tomorrow better than yesterday, hope for a place better than home, hope that we could learn from the mistakes of the past. You are an amazing lyricist and musician, my dude, and you prove it yet again with this amazing song. Rock on! \m/

Thank you for this song Gavin. I'm a big lover of all your music that I have listened to, even songs I didn't really care for initially grew on me. But this one is special. This song came out at a time when I needed it. The reason is private, but suffice to say that lyrics like "And the future is a railroad stretching endlessly" is a text that makes me literally cry with a smile on my lips. That the only way we can move is forward, regardless of what lies there and what we leave behind and that ultimately we are better for it and grow as people, it's a really reassuring thing. Sometimes we all feel trapped in our current situation, in our state of mind, our living environment or even not being sure about who we are and where our place is in this world, it's good to know there will be songs with the passion, drive and emotion put into them to help you when you need them and enjoy them when you don't. Anywho, had to get that of my chest. I don't often feel I owe thanks to people online. But your music hits me like a punch to the gut and a warm embrace, never change Gav, but always keep improving. The shredding of the guitar, the serene vocals mirroring the lamenting ones from 'the day the world died', it's a magnificent testament to a series I love, about how there remain specks of humanity and hope even in the most grim of environments. This song feels like a reward for Artyom, for all the troubles he's been through, for all the good he brought in the face of adversity. Bravo!

I makes me sad that this is the end. The final chapter of Artyom, the Spartan Rangers, Anna, and the whole of the Metro. It all started with a guy living in the Metro. A guy who traveled to Polis station to tell of the comming of the Dark Ones, and killed them so man can survive. This guy became a Hero A guy who discovered a lone, surviving Dark One child. Fought across the entire Metro to rescue it and learned the error of his ways. Uncovered and stopped an attempted coup perpetrated by the Red Line. And earned forgivness. This guy became a Protector A guy who, in his desparate search for the outside, learned that Moscow was cut off from the world due to the works of Hansa, who believed that the Last War was still aflame. Boarded a train and left Moscow in search of answers. Fought, creped, negotiated, and wandered through a cult of electrophobiacs on the Volga, the cannibalistic remnants of the soviet high command in the Urals, gas-guzzling slavers along the Caspian Sea, the Cildren of the Forest in the taigas of Russia, and the bombed out, inhospitible ruins of Novosibirsk. Getting much needed medicine for his wife, Anna, who is teetering on the brink of death. He manages to save his life, but at the cost of his friend and boss, Miller, who succumbed to the lethal dosage of radiation he got trying to save the life of his daughter. A death that will not be in vain. In the end of it all, this guy, a simple man from the metro, found a place where he, his wife, his comrades, and all those in the Metro can, not just survive, but thrive: Lake Baikal. This guy became a savior Artyom: Protector of the People, Defender of D6, Savior of the Metro. But there are many questions to answer... What happened to the Dark Ones? Did Artyom manage to livarate the people from the Metro of Moscow and take them to Lake Baikal? What happened to Giul, Silantius, and Olga? Along with many, many more. We may never know the answers to these questions. But at least we have these fond memories of the Metro Thank you, Dmitry Glukhovsky.

Gotta love the lyric changes from the first song. Such as: And now the future is a railround stretching endlessly/And now the future is a tunnel stretching endlessly We learned the outside/We burned the outside.

Really all of your songs are outstanding. But this one is my favorite, because it goes a bit in direction of power metal. More of this metal style would be really great. Looking forward to it!!!!

I love this reuse of lyrics and melodies in different contexts in sequels/spinoffs you do. It's like echoes of memories in song.

While I really liked the melancholic vibes of "The day the world died" I think the rock/metal fits Metro: Exodus since it really shows the energy and freedom that have to come from finally escaping the claustrophobic and dark Metro

I agree! It helps that double kick drum kinda sounds like a train too :)

Was kinda passively listening and watching the footage when the 'and the future is a railroad stretching endlessly' totally threw me into nostalgia - not for Metro but for Gav's music! Love that line in the first song, love it even better in this one. Never stop doing what you do Gav!
